Good question, why did they screw up Butler as well? Did you note in the video that no one was looking in the direction from which the shooter burst through the SS position? They were all looking towards the dining area. Somebody should have been covering the hallway.
 
Some people on the far left fringe try to turn the idea of “social murder” into a moral justification for violence, but that leap is widely rejected among the sane on both ends of the poltical spectrum, as well as everywhere else. Here’s how the fringe argument usually gets constructed:

They start from the Engels-style premise (via Friedrich Engels) that policies causing foreseeable harm are morally equivalent to violence. They then collapse the distinction between indirect harm (policy outcomes) and direct violence (killing a person). From there, they reframe targeted individuals, politicians, activists, and executives as perpetrators of that harm. Finally, they invoke a kind of “self-defense” or “defense of others” logic: if harm is ongoing and systemic, then violent resistance is portrayed as justified or even necessary.

That chain of reasoning has some obvious problems: It erases moral boundaries that most people rely on, especially the line between policy disputes and physical violence. It depends on collective guilt, assigning personal liability for broad, complex systems. It treats democratic disagreement as lethal aggression, which is a fast track to justifying anything, including murder. And practically, it invites escalation, because once one side claims “defensive violence,” the other side can mirror the same claim. This is how the left justifies the three attempts on Trump's life, the death of Brian Thompson, and the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Democrats cheered these deaths, the cowardly did so in private, and their lunatic fringe does so on TikTok and Instagram.

Roughly 10 years on the absolute low end (rare plea bargains) up to life in prison in most serious cases, with life being the common outcome when intent is clear. But in this case the NYT's and the left seem hard-pressed to find a motive...in order, no doubt, to help their comrade mitigate deserved justice.

The NYTimes is reporting on the story. They've reported that this was politically motivated and that the target was the administration. They've also reported on the manifesto left by the shooter.

But you can lie about that as you need.

"Roughly 10 years" - and I ask again - how many Representatives have you called to enact legislation to change this?
