Should there ever be a bike-porn thread...

The river will be frozen over.

Ah, interesting. I would have thought if the bus got there, a bike could travel whenever. From the book I didn't remember the bus traveled across the river when it was frozen.

Thanks.

The bus was drug there by a D8 Cat. And when the axle broke, it was abandon on that spot.

Good eye!

Thor, is this bus still just out in the bush?

That looks classic. How old is that frame?

Not that late. Bike is like a late 90s or early 2k. Not sure when I bought it. Unless I have a dead wrong sample pic of a vintage frame.

Bears hibernating too?

All the bicycle downhill speed records seem to done on snowy slopes. I only go off road in driest of summer conditions or frozen solid. Stupid bylaws don't allow MTB in open spaces in Lon. Ont. Best riding areas very wet and presence is easily shown. I don't care about me getting muddy and foot traffic does more damage but don't want to help with bad image of cyclist. During wet spring and fall anyways. Rest of the year trails to hard to damage.

You can get some awesome traction on snow of most types.

Bears aren't of any consequence. Bear spray fits in the water bottle holder, anyhow.

With a fatbike, you can't see the trail over the muskeg.

Bikes like these maybe great for racing or weekend biking, but for everyday transportation they can sure create some health problems.

I used same saddle on MTB and road bike. I'm not as limber as a pro athlete and so cannot do radical tucks. Comfort always plays a role for me over an aero tuck. I always wear proper spandex shorts. Throw baggies on over if MTB sometimes.

All I get out of cycling even on skinny wheels is beneficial. Never had an issue with genitalia from pressure of sitting/riding position. 75 miles is about my limit in a day after that my neck gets sore.

Set up properly without and radically thin hard seats and torturous positions there should be no problems for the vast majority.

Skinny wheels are so much faster and lighter than an MTB. Don't break near as good though.

My previous MTB had slicks. Knobbies really slow you down.

I once did 80 miles of washboard on my mtb (a boinger) and had a couple days of numbness, after. Everything still worked, but sensitivity was lacking. I really like the SpeedMax Alpha Omega tires for the MTB. They roll fast and bite on the corners. I don't know what I'm going to replace them with.

That was a great link, Thor. Thanks. I always assumed that bus was just driven in and abandoned. Pretty adventurous trip with the fam. I don't think my wife and kids would have taken much of a shine to that lifestyle!

I lived in London back in the 90s and really liked it. Where do you ride?

More than about 50 miles on any bike at a time leaves me like that anymore. I suspect it's sort of a generalized reduction in muscle mass -- regardless of how much I work to keep it from happening. Alas.
