Should there ever be a bike-porn thread...

I was recently listening to a a podcast about bikers dealing w fatigue. Not that I'm a biker.

I drove halfway across the country. I'm in a deep blue coastal state where most people have bikes. This town doesn't have rented bikes. I go home in a few days, too soon to buy a bike here.

Bike to work day, here. I drove to work, and biked to breakfast at a couple of the rest stops. My tummy is happy with bagel, smoked salmon, and sausage.

I used to ride a bike for hundreds of miles and would tour England and Wales with my camping equipment on the bike.

But after several motorcycle crashes, I could no longer ride a bike.

I certainly can't now. I am so unstable that I would fall off in the first ten yards or so. I have tried a tricycle, but even that isn't stable enough.

But despite my town having a higher than the usual number of pensioners and disabled people, the local council thinks everyone should ride a bike or walk. With a four-wheeled walker, my range varies between half a mile on a good day to two hundred yards on a bad one. Without the walker, just using a walking stick? Twenty yards, maybe thirty on a good day.

The closest bus service (very intermittent) is fifty yards away - so I would have to use the walker. The main bus route? About 5/8ths of a mile - beyond my range.
