Whoa, the trifecta!
I had lunch yesterday at a place that shares a space with an LBS. They had a new shipment of Salsa mountain and cyclocross bikes in. I hadn't ever looked closely at that line before, but they looked very nice.
The best of winter right there, Thor.
Did you take that one?
Nope, I don't ride with cleats in winter. Boots with big platform pedals.
Me either. It may be better on the fatty (I've never ridden one), but ice is a real bummer on two wheels.
Ice with water on it is slippery. I don't run studs, but am thinking of studding my boots.
Why no studs? I'd think both might be a good combination.
Studs are only needed for ice. Most of the time, the trails have some bit of snow on them. Studs are heavier and turn the pig into a bigger pig. Who knows, I might pop for them. They cost as much or more than a car tire.
I had no idea they were that expensive. I just roll roads in the winter, and we have ice here about half the time. So it would be too much hassle to put them on and take them off. I guess I could get an "ice bike", but my commitment to winter commuting isn't that hard-core.
I gave away my pair of 2" studded tires to a friend. I didn't want my boinger out in the salt, anyhow.
Yeah, I don't like any of my bikes getting salt on them. I'm guessing the fatty doesn't mind, though.
There was a Bike-porn thread in the PG at one time -here if you want to review it.
