That terrain is gorgeous.

I spent the day on a hardtail chasing a friend on a fatty over really technical rocky stuff. I couldn't believe how he just floated over everything. He's a better mtb than I am anyway, but I couldn't begin to keep up.

A fatty looks like a hardbike, but rides like a boinger with an inch and a half of travel and no hard stops..
 
Do you happen to have ever ridden something like this? It's sort of a mid-fat with 3" tires. It seems like something that might handle both crap roads and technical trails reasonably well. http://surlybikes.com/bikes/krampus

I've seen really good riders able to ride anything. I figured it was all in the rider. Then, I rode an Ellsworth DH bike down a straight flight of stairs. SMOOTH. Yeah, tech is good!
