Staying at my grandparents farm in North Dakota as a kid and riding my grandmother's old rickety bike (think Wizard of Oz) out along the roads by the fields...wheat, flax, and mustard, and rich dark black earth in my hands, the smell of growing things, and the utter total silence, except for the sound of the wind blowing across the prairie. Feeling very alone but part of the beauty of the land and my heritage, the sun warm on my bare legs as I pedaled back to the farm...
