Sinegard Academy for the Wayward

Being insects, and without evil or good, and without magic, the insects that creeped, slithered, buzzed, and crawled passed through wards without disruption.

Standing outside the Forbiddence spell the Engineer murmured words. The cube shifting into a spiked star as lightening crackled around the engineer and between the acolytes.

Snapping forth the lightening rippled across the Forbiddence spells, cracks splintered across the dome, spreading faster and faster like shattered windshield glass.

Countering the Dark Priest, “The Engineer” Isabeau was doing her best to hold the spell in place, even as The Dark Priest and his Acolytes were destroying it.

The insects stopped at the fires burning around the house caused by the dragons.

SGR-1

SGR whispered a few magical words and glowing runes appeared over The Dark Priest and his Acolytes. Suddenly, they were sealed in a cylinder designed to hold them. They couldn’t willing leave the cylinder and they were at disadvantage to avoid damage.

At the same time, Ramzaheed pointed the magic missile wand at the acolytes and emptied it. 20 magic missiles, which never miss, ripped into The Dark Priest and his Acolytes!

“That should break their concentration” The Ramz said

Angus

“Ok, Isabeau is busy… forget the dragons focus on the priests!” He ordered.

“FORGET THE DRAGONS?” Van gasped

“Ok, You keep them at bay, Callo… let’s get those assholes while they are trapped and at disadvantage” Angus ordered

He opened the window and fired RPG after RPG at the Acolytes. Callo added some fireballs.

Van did the best he could with the 50 cal machine gun, but the dragon pounced on the opening and blew flames through the open windows!

Sweeping in a red dragon exhaled, fire ripping through spells and wards, setting grass, and bushes aflame. Licking across the rooftop the tiles began to smolder.

A blue dragon followed, lighting arcing from it’s jaws. Attracted by the metal of SGR1, the lightening targeted the Robot.

“Danger! Danger! Overload imminent! Overload imminent! Danger, Will Robinson! Dang” With a loud thunder bang, super-heated metal warped and blew apart. One claw ripping through a burnt flower bed as the head blew upwards like a spinning top. Pieces of the robot lay everywhere, smoking and warped, wobbling in the heat wind from the red dragon.

Moments later a green flew overhead, belching acid onto the defenders.

M’Kael slipped through shadows as inky darkness wrapped around the legs of the Acolytes, pulling them down into the darkness. But they fought back as magic missiles skittered across their own defensive wards.

Dropping a marble disc face generated a light nearly as bright as the sun, forcing the shadows to retreat, but leaving him partially submerged in the ground.

The Team Punches Back

“I didn’t think we’d lose this fast” Ramz yelled as he ducked for cover as the lightning bolt blew SGR-1 apart.

“IT JUST GETTING FUN” Angus yelled as he stepped away from the wall as he swung his war axe right into the red dragon’s snort breathing fire in the open window. The axe split the dragon’s nose and mouth open. It screamed in pain and backed away from the window.

Van poured 50 cal rounds into the dragon’s head, taking out an eye and breaking several teeth. The breast was not stupid. It took off, flying away.

“MAKE THE MUSIC LOUDER” Angus told Gem. As he grabbed a 50 cal and started shooting at the blue and green dragons flying around the house.

Gem called down a meteor swarm onto the Acolytes and Dark Priest. They had been badly injured from the magic missiles, RPGs, and Fireballs… this was the last straw. Blazing orbs of fire plummet into them exploding on impact into 80-foot-explosions. They were all burnt to a crisp. Not even their dark robes remained.

As the Forbiddence spell finally shattered, the Engineer appeared behind the Priest as more acolytes come from the shadows.

But The Engineer was slightly different, his face marked by scares and some of his nails replaced by glowing spikes.

Twisting the cube in his hands a shimmering dome negating all magic surrounded the defenders.

“Shit!” Isabeau exclaimed as her spells failed.

Dropping to his knees M’Kael screamed as inky black that made up his armor vanished.

Walking through the flames The Engineer sneered at the group. “I will have the Girl!”

Angus

As the anti-magic field enclosed the house the music stopped.

“Ahh, that sucks” Angus complained.

Callo

“Fuck” Callo said

Van, Ramz

Both stopped fighting for the moment. Both still held their weapons, ready to keep fighting. But they were waiting for what was next.

Gem

Looked out of her window at The Engineer.

“Now you have done it. That was really fucking stupid” Gem pointed out to The Engineer.

Coming from the basement was Ravyn. She was not naked yet, still wearing her black clothing. But everyone could see it in her eyes. With all magic canceled within the anti-magic dome, the runes that contained the demon inside her were no longer in effect. This was true for the arcane marks on M’Kael and Ravyn as well.

Ravyn looked out to The Engineer. She walked directly at him. “Come and get me” She said

Smiling the Engineer looked at the group. “You’re trapped without magic, and I have mine. You can’t leave, unless you do enough damage to the dome.”

Looking over at the Acolytes he gave them a nod and the moves around the property, encircling it. “Break the dome and she’s subdued again. Or stay and do nothing.”

A waiting game

“Call in the dragons now?” Callo asked

“No… not yet” Angus said

“He can’t get in… and we can’t get out. But these barrier and anti-magic spells have a time limit. We just need to wait.” Gem explained.

“Ok… everyone reload and prepare for the shield to come down.” Angus ordered

“Ravyn… you’d best go back downstairs” Gem suggested

Ravyn nodded and headed back down the stairs.

As the defenders reloaded their weapons a second horde of goblins, orcs, and kobalds came running from the forest. Aiming their weapons at the defenders they cackled and jeered, jumping for joy at the ruin they would impart.

“Give me the girl!” The Engineer ordered. “I only want her. The rest of you will be unharmed and can go free.”

A Waiting Game part 2

“Your little chicken shit army of orcs and such can’t get through the barrier either.” Gem pointed out.

Van took the time to give the army the middle finger then he went back to smoking.

“How can we give you Ravyn? The barrier is in the way. You’ll need to lower it?” Gem pointed out. “Your obsession with Ravyn is a bit confusing. We are removing the demon inside her. Once that is done, you can get the demon from hell without losing all your evil minions” Gem suggested. She looked at the carnage already on the battlefield. There were piles of dead evil creatures. “You just need to wait a few hours and the demon inside Ravyn is all yours.”

“The girl, with the demon inside her. Before any ceremony.” The Engineer replied. “Once the barrier is down, my forces fire. Even if you kill a third, the rest will slaughter you.”

“I will sacrifice a world for my task.” The Engineer said gesturing to the battlefield of corpses.

Conference

Van gave The Engineer the middle finger again. Then he laughed.

Angus gave Van a puzzled look.

“Its fun… try it” Van replied

Angus gave The Engineer the finger as well. A smile broke out on his face. “Your right, that is fun!”

“Ok, let’s have a quick conference” Gem ordered. People stayed by their windows, but they were now listening to Gem. “He’s not totally wrong. As soon as the shield is down… we are back in a huge fight. Any thoughts or ideas?” Gem asked

“I’m not worried about the horde… it’s those f’ing dragons.” Angus said.

“As soon as the magic is back, I can re-ward the house and put forbiddance back up, but it will take some time. He might get in before I’m done.” Gem warned them.

“Any ideas from downstairs? Isabeau? M’Kael?” Angus asked. As he asked the question a roomba vacuum cleaner ran into his hoof. The Roomba “beeped” at him.

“SGR-1?” Angus asked. The Roomba beeped twice.

“Ok one beep for no and two beeps for yes. This there anything else you can do?” Angus asked

“Beep” the Roomba replied.

“Ok, well keep the place clean” Angus ordered as he waited for Isabeau, M’Kael, and the folks downstairs for ideas.

Isabeau and M'Kael:
“I have a spell ready as soon as anti-magic spell is gone,” Isabeau replied.

Grabbing one of the shotguns M’Kael called out. “I’m useless with the spell in place. But I have a shotgun until then.”

Enemy:
Resting for the moment the dragons circled overhead, ready to spew forth their deadly breath as soon as the spell ceased.

The hordes had their weapons trained on the house and it’s windows, ready to fire when given the command.

Two balrogs stood in the background, ready to unleash hell upon the house.

More talking

“You really should have brought more forces. That not going to get the job done!” Angus yelled back at The Engineer.

“Magdalena, since you are weaker one here. I’ll leave the balrogs to you” Angus joked as he yelled to the folks downstairs. “Hey… how is he using demons… since he is a devil?” He asked Gem.

“No idea… but don’t over think this.” Gem answered.

“Hey, M’Kael… how about calling in all of your ex-girlfriends. That would provide a huge army for us. Unfortunately, they might want to kill you first… before the Engineer!”

Van laughed at that joke. “The Raven Queen might want to help. Ask her” He added

M’Kael:
“I’d rather not have any more contact with her than absolutely necessary.” M’Kael replied to Angus’ joke.

Making sure his shotgun was fully loaded he shook his head. “Not enough ammo for all of them.”

The Enemy:
Glaring at the group in the house the Engineer rotated the object in his hands until it looked like a spiked cube.

“I will have the girl!” he snarled as the antimagic spell ended. Immediately half the mob ran forward to siege the house in melee as the other half fired their weapons.

The Balrogs thundered forwards as the Dragons unleashed their furious breath weapons, from range, as they didn’t want any more mishaps with bladed weapons.

Isabeau:
Unleashing her spells as quickly as possible, she managed to entrap a good portion of the horde with rapidly growing thorny vines that gripped armour and tore at flesh.

Feeding on the blood of the horde the vines grew faster, becoming more numerous.

Her seconds spell had insects that creeped, crawled and flew swarming the horde and pestering the Engineer, slowing his own spell casting.

Vanishing The Engineer teleported.

Gem

Time stop was a handy spell. The flow of time had stopped for everyone. She had planned to replace the wards… but they had been brought down too quickly last time, so delayed fireballs were her back up plan.

She took a second to admire the world frozen in time. The Balrogs thundering forward towards them. The Dragons in the middle of unleashing their breath weapons. The vine coming out of the ground ensnaring everyone and thing. She put up a barrier spell around the house and then placed a delayed fireball in front of each dragon (black, green, and blue). The red dragon had flown off, and they had not seen a white dragon yet.

She had a few more fireballs remaining. She placed them against the Acolytes and ground forces, far enough away from the vines as not to hurt their defensive spell.

As time returned to normal… the whole sky and ground lit up in fire. It was really something to see. The fire not only hurt the dragons, but also burned up the ranged weapons fired at the house. The barrier spell caught the rest, although it started to flicker and fade from too much damage.

Everyone in the house was pretty happy about the fireballs and barrier. But it was the entangling vines that were extra helpful. The vines slowed down and even killed many of the attackers. Anyone making it through the vines was picked off with 50 cal fire.

“BALROGS” Angus yelled as the barrier started to fail. He was hoping Magdalena would take them on.

Fireballs detonated in the faces of the dragons as they roared in pain and fure. Spewing their toxi breaths across the house and it’s environs.

Magdalena ran out of the house leaping into the air as she attacked both balrogs. Her spear slicing meat and bone as she screamed at the top of her lungs. Yelling an incantation, or prayer, she attacked them with a fury she’d reserved for M’Kael, or the Engineer.

Opening fire M’Kael blasted anything sticking it’s face through the window, blowing off arms and head with equal fury. When his shotgun was empty his armour formed and he dropped through shadows on the floor, erupting in the middle of the horde as black tendrils ripped through the enemy.

Running up the stairs Kakatal yelled. “Some freak just took Ravyn. He appeared out of nowhere and grabbed her.”

Gem

“I guess he took the bait… now let’s see what happens.” Gem said to herself. Louder she said “Shit! The Bride unBound!"

“SHIT” Angus yelled, then added “This house is going to be unbound in a second!” As the dragons breathe weapons were blasting the house with lightening, acid and poisonous gas. “Ok Callo… call in the good dragons” He ordered chokings on the gas.

"ATTACK" Callo yelled in dragon voice as she jumped out of the window and suddenly she was a huge shadow dragon. Swooping in to claw at the green. She also blasted it with her shadow breathe. Her exhaled shadowy fire engulfed the green… inside the shadow cloud there were screams of pain.

Coming out of the sky were five more dragons. A Gold was leading the attack… followed by Silver, Copper, Brass, and a Bronze. The three injured, evil dragons, Green, Black, and Blue could see the odds of winning this battle were very low. It was time to fly away.

“Sargonnas Walks!” Angus yelled as he rushed out of the house and tried to help Magdalena. His magic axe hatched into one of the balrog’s legs. However, a fiery whip came around hit his left arm burning it badly.

Van and Ramz kept firing into the horde to keep them at bay.

The Dragon and it’s Horde!
Withering the green dragon fell to the ground, smashing the house with it’s tail. The Blue and Black turned and fought the other ‘good’ dragons. But with the green down they were outmatched until the red swept in and attacked.

It’s flaming breath sweeping across the Silver, engulfing the cold dragon with a massive streaming of flaming breath.

M’Kael was pulling the horde into the shadows as fast as he could, ripping open holes across the ground as dozens of them fell to his manipulations.

Isabeau threw a sticking cloud of noxious smoke at the horde, blinding it, forcing them into a coughing mass as Magdalena hacked at the Demons, her spear glowing in the flickering light.

The Orc, Goblins, and other minions fled into the forest as the Balrogs vanished.

Kneeling The Engineer bowed before his summoner. “I bring the girl, as you required, my Master.”

The Engineer:
“I see,” came the reply from the cloaked figure. “She is still pure?”

“Yes, Master. The Green witch and the Shadow wielder were there as well.”

“Damnit,” The cloaked figure snarled. “Take her to the site.”

“Yes, Master.” the Engineer replied picking up Ravyn, the spikes in his face and head glimmering in the light.

Teleporting away he left the cloaked figure alone.

Ssweeping his arm across the table the figure snarled/growled in the dark room. A single candle illuminating the drawing before him.

A drawing that would allow him to sacrifice Ravyn, and steal Ashmadae’s power for himself.

House No More

“Everyone, get out of the house!” Gem yelled as the roof and walls began to crack and creak. Van and Ramz jumped out their window. Gem went through the front door. Angus, Magdalena, M’Kael and Callo were already outside.

She did not see Kakatal or Isabeau get out, but if they stayed in the basement, they’d be ok. The front part of the house, just sort of fell over with the roof crashing down on top of the fallen wall.

“Shit” Gem said in sadness.

“At least the kitchen is still ok” Van pointed out.

Gem turned to where the Red Dragon was flying and pointed her staff. She spoke a magic word and the creature disappeared.

“Wow… why didn’t you do that earlier?” Van asked

“Dragons are resistant to magic up to a point. That one had reached his threshold and I just teleported him away.” Gem explained.

There was a strange beeping noise coming from the collapsed living room.

“SGR-1?” Ramz suggested

Rising up from the shadows of the building M’Kael appeared with Isabeau and Kakatal. “Ravyn’s gone.” he said looking at gem and Angus. “We did all this for nothing.”

Isabeau looked at the carnage across the yard and the destruction of the flowerbed. “The bodies are gonna start stinking soon, more than they already do.” she said, her nose wrinkled, as she covered her face with a cloth.

“Covered,” M’Kael said as the bodies, including the dragon, sank into their own shadows. “Glad to be the clean up crew.” he commented.

Gem

“Not everything is lost. We have a few cards to play yet. But I was hoping we’d keep Ravyn here with us. Being taken, increases the likelihood of her death. Speaking of that… if she were in trouble, like when she fell out of the tower, what magic helps you find her?” Gem asked M’Kael

A Smiling Vampire

Angela did not like playing the long game… it was not much fun. She would have preferred to be with the others, fighting the orcs, goblins, and balrogs. Well, maybe not the balrogs. But now, she was the only one in position to stop what was about to happen. No one could see her, but if they could they’d see she had a big smile on her face.

M’Kael:
“I don’t know how it works. I just.. feel everything she feels when she dies. And it always hurts. Burning. Broken and shattered body. Hanging. Crushed. It always hurts and I know where she’s at. But I don’t know how I know.” M’Kael replied to the question.

"I don't know how I do the shadow magic either, I just do it. Like breathing. Or walking."

Isabeau:
Casting a spell directed at M’Kael Isabeau looked at Gem, “He’s been cursed. Or hexed. A couple times.”

“What do you do now?” Angus asked Gem

“Well, under the assumption that the engineer can’t take Ravyn off campus. That is a pretty big assumption, since he can bend reality. We need to find where they took her. My guess would be the catacombs or someplace the Inquisitors have. Magdalena any good inquisitor places on campus, besides the place that was burned down?” Gem asked

“Inquisitors? I thought they fought demons and devils?” Angus said

Van took a puff on his cigarette “Ambition makes for strange bedfellows”
