Sliders

Goliath

"I suggest we do something about the height of the portal. Falling that far can do some demage. Just look at my arm." Walking over to the cabnit, Goliath continues. "Another thing is, we will need to take a flashlight, so we can see if it is dark where we slide out off, and some note books to write down our findings. A camra would be good as well, to work as further proof, and much reaserch. I know there is a lot to do, but must of the questions have been answerd, it works."
Opening the cabnit, and pulling out a first-aid kit. Goliath starts to unrappe his arm. "Another thing is the langth the portal is open, with some work, I can make the power device to give the portal probably 10, 15 minutes at the most."
Pulling out the stick in his arm, Goliath growns in pain. Blood raises out. Quickly, he rappes his arm up in a bondge. "This will do for now." He thinks to himself, as he bends down to clean his blood off the floor. "I relise 10 or 15 minutes isn't enough time for much. But I haven't had a chance to modifie the design of the power core. Givcen time, I may be able to give the portal 30 minutes, even up to an hour. But with that, there is risks."
Putting the first aid kit back in the cabnit and facing the others. "It would be better if we could know the direct location of each planet so we can re-open the portal. But we can't do that. Therefor, keeping the portal open untill we are finished is the only way I see this working. So I think we would have to get some top secruity to gaurd the portal on this side to stop unwanted people coming through the portal."
Turning back around, Goliath looked at the stick he pulled out of his arm. "Hang on a secound, this isn't a stick! This thiung is to smooth, and looks human-made. I have no idea what this is." Goliath turns around and look at the man in Rick's arms. "Maybe this man will know what this is, and can give as some knowladge of what happend on thatt planet."
Walking over to Rick, Goliath helps put the unknowen man on the table. "We need to get this man some help, and fast, he doesn't look good." Looking down to the mans arm, Goliath spots a number of some sort. "What in the name is this?"

Ooc: I know no one's dead, just wanted Blore to get paranoid.

He smirked. Goliath was going around getting orders as if he could actually do those things. He was a computer programmer, not a magical fairy.
All he imputed for the world was the unknown X. He was just lucky the hole didn't open up a hundred feet in the air.
Maybe he was even more lucky it didn't open up in space entirely.
First they would need a definite answer for X. How many worlds were out there.
Once they could define the worlds, perhaps they could get a little more discrete about the landing, although he had no idea how to do it.
THe program began running, sending the computer probe into the void for parallel universes. It would take a while, a great while.
"Lin," he passed her the phone, "This is your building, you're the scientist here, I'm sure you've got some friends who can help in this. Guards, medical personal. And you might want to call those people in the meeting, they've been waiting quite a while."
While the checks were running, he began to examine the data coming in from the first slide. Nothing he could put a theory to, but all of it was very interesting.

Lin took the phone. "OH SHIT!! I forgot all about that damn meeting. First things first." One quick called had security and medics on the way. The bandage Goliath had on his arm did little to stop the bleeding, and the guy they brought back needed some serious attention.

"OK, I have to get to the meeting, unless you guys can think of some way for me to get out of it?" All the blank looks in the room let her know there was little she could do to stall it any longer. She knew it all worked, and it was not just a theory any more, but the board was not going to like her bringing in outsiders, and they would definately not like that she brought back a guy from another world. The last thing she wanted to do was hand them over a new lab rat, and that is just what they would see the other-worlder as. Resting the phone on her lap, she tried to think. She had to give them enough to keep the board interested, and keep her funding, but not enough to make them want to come to the lab. Looking about the lab, she hit on an idea.

Picking up the big red ball she used to play with the university chimp, she headed out the door, stoping to look back at the others for a moment. "Hey!!, Who gave you guys the night off? Back to work, I wont be long. Just gonna play ball with the board." with that, she vanished out the door and up the hallway, calling out behind her...."And don't even think about sliding again without me."

Goliath

Watching Lin leave the lab with the red ball. Goliath looks at Blore, then to Rick, then to every one else. "Any one have any ideas what she is up to? Because I sure don't."
Looking down at the controler, he picked it up out of his pocket and looked at it. "Now, let's get to work. I got an idea for this thing." Placing the controler on a table. Goliath walks over to the small power cube. "Blore run the program so I can open a portal."

Looking over at Goliath. "Lin told us not to slide with out her, I can't poss..." Blore was cut short before he could finish.

"No, Blore, I got no plans to slide, I just want to see how having the portal open drans the power from the cube."

Blore starts the program, Goliath picks up and pusheses a button opening a portal. "No one go through the portal." Goliath looks at the read out for the power cube. "Unbeleavable, it hasn't even used one tenth of it's possable power outage." Looking over at Blore. "I may not even have to modife the cube to get the portal to stay open longer."
Pushing a button on the controller, Goliath looks at it with a puzzeled look. Besides opening the portal, what is this thing ment for? It is counting down from what looks like hours, minutes and seconds. If so, w e have 3 hours a nd 15 minutes untill we see what happens once this reaches 0." Looking over at Blore, he says: "I don't know about you, but I got a feeling this thing is doesn't need that machine to run the program."
Looking at the controller. "I may try disconnecting the power cube from theat machine and connect it to the controller. "If my geuss is right, this thing is goning to need it."

I can 'feel' bright light...and thank goodness warmth! I feel caring hands lift me and tending to me...I guess no ones trying to kill me at the moment... some people may not bother with that, but not wanting to kill me ranks pretty high on my criteria for friend...I wince as I try to remember basic things about me... but it seems memory begins heartache and darkness....I decide this light and warmth is far more palatable.

"Yeah, sure, it's a great theory, but if you're stuck on a planet and even one thing goes wrong, you won't be able to fix it. The program will run the same, and do the exact same thing."
He looked back at the computer. Everyone was so preoccupied with the specifics and how long they can slide, and no one is even caring if the program shuts down or something is wrong.
He was interested in the present, and everyone else was interested in the wrapping.
Sliding, from one planet to another.
Oh my... he looked at the assorted data.
"Well, look at this. This might solve your whole long lasting portal theory."
He clicked on what had happened.
"It seems as if the portal holds onto one of the planet's gravitational pulls. That means..."
another set of data, "That means that the portal actually moves on the other side. According to this the portal on the planet you slid to moved three feet."
He raised his eyebrows, looking at it objectively, "Theoretically the portal could do anything from stay still to do sixty on the interstate."
He checked the data again, it was sound. Other things began to come through the data as well, and he was running them through. This was going to be a long night, that's for sure.

Very OOC

Hey guys its a great restart but since were losing momentum I figured Id bump the thread back up. I promise to interact with you all if you all promise to interact at all. once again 2 cents about a thread Im still not oficially a part of but Id hate to see fade.

OOC: Moonlight has been out the town the last two days, I have also been out myself. But Moonlight will be back to pos, and I am waiting to reply after her post.
Do not worry, just a little RL here and there, but I won't let the thread die.

Bump
I'm not part of this thread, I'm just a reader, but I know everybody's busy and distracted with the holidays and everything so I figured I'd jump in and kick the story to the top, keep it up until everybody gets a chance to post again, Happy Holiday everybody, and keep up the good work! Great thread!

OOC: Yes, with Christmass just around the corner, we are all busy. But after things settle down, this thread will be going, once again. My thanks for bumping the thread, Blazeoflife.

Lin sighed with reliefe as she stepped from the meeting and back into the hall way. Never in all her years, did she think even for a moment that she was capable of such lies, but in the name of science, she had come up with a real whopper. Still, it had bought her another six months funding, and with the progress they had made tonight, she was sure her lie would be forgiven when it was eventually discovered.

Back in the lab, she waisted no time getting back to work, and taking a look at Blair's new information was her first priority.

"The problem with keeping the portal open is that anyhting can come back through right? So we have to find a way to control time, destination, and retrieval. The other problem i see is the possibility of carrying germs from one planet to another, we could wipe out whole worlds with chicken pox if we're not careful. Speaking of which, how's the other-worlder doing?"

The medics she had called had done a good job patching him up, but he still looked out of it. Picking up the medical report, she quickly looked it over. Apart from having the stuffing beaten out of him, and a slight concussion, he was ok, just needed a little time to heal. She looked at his face a little closer. He looked as human as she was, and when she looked past the swelling, he was quite an atractive young man. Very softly she brushed the backs of her fingers over his bruised cheek. "You'll be ok. I'll make sure of it." They had taken this man from his world. They had more then likely saved his life, but that didn't alter the fact that they had displaced him, without his concent. She had to wonder what his reaction to all of this might be.

"Blair, while we were on the other side of the vortex, I noticed the spiral changing color as time ran out, getting more blue, and purple, when it was closer to green when we first exited. Could there be a conection with the time period, and the alpha waves, something we could moniter as colors? Like, we associate the colors of the vortex with how much time is left?"

OCC: I said I would post my part after Moonlight', but I that is out of place. It is morwe of poohiove's turn to post now.

Ryan

"You'll be ok. I'll make sure of it."
In the haze that was his conciousness and the maze that was left of his memory...those words and the kindness behind them were a beacon to reality. He couldnt remember what brought him to this, but he had found a positive thought to focus on.

Moments later his eyes fluttered open and he surveyed his surroundings. His eyes scanned for exits out of reflex, but in truth, he couldnt explain it but he seemed to want to be here. he surveyed the damage to his body and although he was sure whoever did it had done a very thourough job, judgeing by the amount of medical care he had recived he was also pretty sure it wasnt these people who had done it.

Gingerly he sat up and realized he must have been given a healthy dose of medications. he attempted to speak and found his throat very dry...*cough* "May I have a glass of water?"

"Blair?" Blore scoffed, shrugging his shoulders, "We have known each other for four years and you take now to decide to forget my name.
"It doesn't matter. Listen, I have no idea what to do in this situation. You're asking me to interpret colors inside a spiral vortex. I barely even know how this is suposed to work. I have no clue, maybe it's from the wave patterns of the discending structure. Maybe it's the rip we're causing when we force a hole between the parallel universes, hell, it could even be inverted radio waves bouncing off this world, or the other world. Right now, you're asking advanced "sliding" questions. What we need are more tests, and singularity runs, other than that all we're doing is throwing theories in the air."
He paused, looking back at the screen, data began to gather up like mad. All of it didn't make sense. The convergence numbers alone seemed to make his head spin. As wonderful as this all seemed, it was a nightmare to a computer programmer.
"I'm going to start sifting through the radial converters, see if maybe we can relate exactly where in space you actually slid to."
He glanced at the now conscious man. English, he spoke english. Well, that'll help things a little.

Goliath

"Where in the universe we Slide to? Isn't it obvise? We don't move to another planet. We Slide to Earth in another Dimension. It won't give you a location of where in the universe, but more of which Dimension." Putting his hand on the desk, looking out the window, it was almost day.
"As we are the first to find this technolodgy, in this Dimension that is. We should start writing down information on each Dimension we visit. It will be hard to do that with so little time."

Looking over at Lin. Starting to have trouble staying awake, Goliath yawns as he begins to speak. "Ahh, exuse me. It is almost daylight and I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we better go home and get some sleep."

Ryan?

*coughing a little louder*
Perhaps they dont speak english..."Agua porfavor"
I have no idea whats going on, That word rang a bell...Dimension.....If I only I could put my finger on why.

Dominations? what in the hell were dominations?
"Listen," Blore said, interrupting the thirsty man, "We may be visiting parallel earth's, but that still means they exist, and they take up space. In space there are no borders, you can't just all of the sudden reach a part where space stops. It's infinite, that's why it's called "space." Each of these universes is located within this one space, and we need to find out where they are and how many there are, otherwise, we'll just be hitting random places."
How did you find out how many universes there are? There could be an infinite number, hell, space was infinite. Counting them might as well be like counting beans in one of those huge jars, utterly impossible.
He hated that word, impossible, but it couldn't be helped.
The check came back negative. The computer didn't know where they had gone, hell no one did.
He began checking radion dispensers, perhaps some sort of low level frequency beacon would come back to them. It was worth a try, right now they were all working on theories.
Theories.
Shit, he hated theories. They always worked until you tried them on some really hard equation.

Lin rubbed her eyes, it had been a long time since she had a good sleep, and her body was starting to remind her of it.

"Blore, ol buddy, I do appolagise, you know i ment you. Hey, when i called you "FatHead" you still knew who i ment' *wink*
I think sleep would be a good idea for us all."

She heard the newcomer speak and realized she hadn't been paying attention. Overtiredness really was catching up with her. Taking a glass, she went to the water cooler and filled it.

"It's ok, we speak your first language." She handed him the glass and waited for him to drink it, then got him another. "I'm Lin, and i guess you are a little curious as to where you are?" She really wanted to know what he was thinking before she knocked him down with the truth.

Ryan....

I begin to eye the exits as they continue to banter and ignore me... sudenly one of them responds to me and finnaly brings me a glass of water. I thank fully gulp it down and smile as she brings me another one. She introduces herself as Lin and I think she is the voice I had latched onto when I was in that haze. She asks if Im curious about where I am ....oddly enough thats not even on the top 5 of my questions. "Actually Im much more curious about....who I am "

OOC:

Don't mind me, just kicking this thread to the top, strolling through, pay no attention to the man behind the curtain and all that, hehehe....

Bump

Okay, I think everyone's given up on this thread, but it was interesting to read and it would be a shame to let it die without some kind of struggle.
This is the last time I'm going to bump this thread, unless or until someone starts posting in here again.
The ball's in your court, people.
