Quite a few women have had butterflies or something that opens wide tattooed on the middle of their back. There is a lady here on lit that has quite a few tattoos on her body if you want to have a look.

let me get this straight

you've booked an appointment with an artist for a tattoo...
with absolutely no thought put into what you want?
and you ask people who want to see you naked what they
think you should be getting???

I think you should be putting a little more thought
into this whole tattoo idea

Take this as condescending as you want,
but I have a point. If you think about it you might even thank me later
when you don't have a retarded trendy tattoo

kjtatts..check out her thread for some ideas and if you would want to indulge yourself in tattoos.

I haven't booked anything. They don't do appointments around here. But i've been considering getting celtic knot design for the past few months.

I just wanted other imput, and I asked here because the only person I know that has tattoo experience is my ex who has been ignoring me since I left vegas 3 weeks ago.

if you want a *good* tattoo
that you will appreciate for the rest of your life
you should do a little "window" shopping and check
out your local shops, see who's work you like...
what you like about it ... (color, shading, etc what have you, only
you really know what you like)
and then work with that artist to produce something thats
truly unique to you.

otherwise, you're just playin yourself.
the artists out there who take themselves seriously
will put 1000X times the work ethic into something
they are interested in doing than just another broad off the street
who wants this weeks flavour....

I dunno, maybe thats just me, I take my tattoo's seriously though.
I have several of my own ...
Also, I've never heard of shops not booking appointments.
Most shops require you to book ahead and put down a non-refundable
deposit to seperate the serious clients from the squeemish.

Well, excuse me for not knowing much about the process, or living up to your serious tattooing standards, seeing as it I never had a tattoo before, and out of all the people I asked (including my ex), no one ever mentioned about doing anything like that.

excuse me for mistaking you for someone with a little common sense

Dude, that's just a little bit harsh, don't you think? What's gotten up your butt that you hafta take it out on someone who's just asking a question? Chill out, why don'tcha.

research your ideas .. maybe google a few things like the knotwork , their meanings and sugnificance etc ... I've done a thousand cover ups because no thought was given and someone walked in and picked a taz off my wall or a faire etc ... any good artst will help you indevidualize it also to your likes and needs , by combining 2 or more paterns , colors , etc ... I ddont know any artst who wouldnt love helping create a one of a kind piece of art .
Best of luck ..
"this will only hurt for a little while ..."

That is a much more helpful way of putting it. To be fair, though, I put a whole bunch of research and design into my ink, and then ended up swapping it for a dragon I just happened to see on the day of the appointment.

I would like to have something unique, but nothing really comes to mind, when I keep seeing all these pre-designes.

I want something that looks a bit more mature than just having a cartoon character on my back. I prefer tribals and celtic knots over most everything else, and just thinking up an unique design is really hard.

I think abstract designs, or things like flowers are best. Images of animals, people, etc., usually carry more connotations, and they have to be meaningful to you. In other words, if you want a cool tattoo, go with the celtic knot or an abstract design. If you want a cool tattoo AND you're into dragons or the like, then get that.

How about somethign anime?

Having anime perminatly marked on my skin isn't something that appeals to me. I'm leaning towards the celtic knots more because of my Irish heritage.
