Pardon the intrusion...this is entirely off topic, but I feel very very important.

Today my grandfather received some alarming mail...someone has stolen his identity and was trying to get a car financed in his name. So I've been making phone calls and searching the credit reporting agencies websites for what to do about all this - my grandfather is in his late 80s and does hear good, so I'm handling everything for him. Unfortunately, it's the weekend and the car dealership is closed tomorrow - so I'll take my lunch hour and go down to the dealership with him Monday. Luckily it's one that I used to deal with when I worked for an auto finance company, so I've probably got a better foot in the door than the average victim.

However, this is where the above alert comes in. On www.experian.com there is a warning about an email going out telling you that the credit reporting agencies will soon be able to give any and all personal information out to schmuck who calls them. It gives you a number to call and says you will be allowed to opt out of the credit reporting agency and credit card offers, etc. If you receive the email, DON'T CALL!!! If you did call, go to experians website and place an alert on your credit report.

I don't normally pass out stuff like this, mainly because it's usually sent in mass emails to all your friends and a quick search of www.snopes.com tells you that it's an urban legend. But I got this straight off Experian's website.

Protect your identity, people. Or you'll be in for a world of headaches.

PS If anyone has any experience dealing with this, would you send me a pm and give me some tips? My grandfather has NO debt - he went through the depression and EVERYTHING is paid for, so he's not hurting, but it has me pissed the hell off at whoever is doing it...and I'm gonna track them down and teach them what nonconsentual feels like.

*nods* That's pretty much the plan for Monday. Luckily the car lot is one of my former dealers from when I worked for the auto finance company. I'm sure they'll be more than willing to help me out when me and pawpaw go over there. I caught them just as they were fixing to lock the doors and they're closed tomorrow. So the manager has my cell number and will call me first thing Monday when he gets in. If they still operate like they did back then, they've already let the person drive off the lot with the car....hopefully they made a copy of the person's "drivers license" and I'll know for sure then. And if I'm right....me and that girl are going to have a long....talk....

Nail her to the wall and make her pay!! Geez, rippin' off an old man....that's so low she deserves to be pond scum food. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for forgiving, but some things are best forgiven after lessons have been "learned." Know what I mean?

Young or older they seem to go in the pretense that we will find Our own G-spot or make our selves go over the edge. While expecting us to help them. Now mind ya I don't care to give it a little push once in a while. but the only man I've ever been with who really Really did it him self actually knew his way around my body and used his knowledge to well you get th e picture.

Applies to all states. Experian does have an "opt out" program, but they don't send out email notications, nor is there any bill out there fixing to be approved to allow them to give your info to any Tom, Dick or Harry.

Yeah, he's understandably confused about why anyone would do something like this. *shakes head* He survived the Depression, has no debt and tends to stock up on things. He's worked hard for everything he has, he's a WWII veteran, and he planned very hard to retire early and he and mawmaw traveled a lot until her death. He doesn't understand why someone would want something that wasn't theirs and then stick someone else with the bills.

Aw man!! I hope you catch these people and really, really mess them up. I'm generally a forgiving person, but I also have a strong sense of righteous indignation that gets riled when a truly good person gets royally screwed. Sounds to me that's what's happened here....and it really pisses me off.

I've had a few people ask what the cover charge money is going for.

here's a list I can't give ya the exact costs but I think once you see the list you will see the need for a cover charge of some sort.

Cold drinks for everyone all weekend
Bottled water for those who don't drink cold drinks
Lunch will be provided on Sat.
Snacks and finger foods for the hospitality suite
the meeting room for all nights (about 150.00 total)
Cups plates napkins and such
table cloths
Name tags
printing of the schedules and a few other hand outs that you will get when you check in
A small token of appreciation for the instructors doing the workshops (they are giving their time)

I hope that sort of makes the need a bit more real.

Hell, for $12? Who's bitchin'? I'd pay more than that!! (Not that I WANT to, though!) I think you've done a FINE, FINE job Tonie. Anyone got a problem with that price tag for those services needs to get a clue...or visit the big city more than once every three years.
