Star City- The Heroes of Tomorrow OOC

And, yes.

Lunaramblings-- he prefers "Luna Ramblings," but I parse it as "Lunar Amblings" just to be a sassypants, also I have a cat named Luna and that would be weird --has been a fast friend of mine for many years.

We hit it off almost immediately when he joined up with Last Daughter of Krypton and I've considered him a member of my far-flung wolfpack ever since.

Speaking of Lunar...

...the mark of a good fanficker is your readers' being able to hear the characters' voices in their heads.

I just heard Hamill's Joker and Robin Lord Taylor's Penguin plain as frickin' day.

Well played, dear. Well played.

Seriously, that is a huge compliment. I have always shied away from Joker because he is one of the most complex characters in my opinion. You can't just go around hitting people with a fish, but you have to embrace this mental state, this twisted darkness and vividly intense insanity... but yeah.

Thanks. Just found this pic. Kinda diggin it.

One of the good things about The Joker is that built into his canon is the fact that he's not always the same kind of crazy twice. So if you're a little bit inconsistent with his characterization, you're off the hook-- and you get to mess around with different psychoses, so that can be a fun challenge. In any case, apparently randomly murdering Penguin's henchbirds like he's channeling Victor Zsasz' death-aholism is apparently Joker's flavor of the week. You pulled it off!

Willem was a passing Goblin, and he certainly has the right look for The Joker, and he's in the right age-range for the timeline. I can dig it.

For my IC post is anybody willing to spar with Venom? Or should I just have him filling out more forms in a small cubicle?

If you're sitting in the cubicle, and flashing back to sparring during the six weeks, I'd be more than happy to have one of my people spar with you. Artemis or Vixen would do nicely?

If you're sparring in the present, post time-skip, my people will be back soon-- but then there's plenty of other options in Marvels and Arrows and Flashes and Martians even without me around.

Actually, you training with J'onn might be amazing... hmm...

I guess it will be.

Was actually thinking of having John/Venom busy sparring when the new paw-paw hits the fan. But I will keep dangling the bait out there and see what comes up.

Well, my girls are wheels-down in Star City again, so if John wants to go a few rounds with Artemis, she's in that kind of mood.

Out of curiosity, who is running J'onn right now? Annnd is there a way we could get ahold of Supergirl? Jaime has some research he needs to do.

Lunar has been running J'onn in Amen's absence, and I could cover Supergirl on a limited basis if there's a need, unless Lunar wants to.

Been sick since late last week. I believe I'm on the mend now. I'll get Bart involved within the thread when I'm able to. Apologies for the belated notice!

Two minutes into it and all I can think of is this

GOd I fucking HATE Iris.

I think the line towards the end of the article is interesting-- the one about moving away from comics lore. At last quote, there's still a "50% chance" Olicity could happen in "Arrow." And Linda Park is just as canonical a wife and girlfriend as Iris-- even though she's supposed to be the canonical wife/girlfriend of Wally West rather than Barry Allen, there's some adaptation conflation going on here. The thing with Lana was sort of obviously doomed from the get-go-- she was only ever a placeholder until Lois, after all. I'm very much intrigued by the relationship between Leslie Thompkins and Jim Gordon on "Gotham," as that's a thing that's not been broached before that I know of-- and it again seems to divert away from Barbara as being the endgame ship.

(The fact that Barbara is self-destructive and infantile actually kind of bothers me a bit-- LGBT representation aside, which was nice --because in the comics, she actually leaves Jim long after they're married once he's cheated on her with Sarah Essen-- eventually his second wife --once she realizes the job will always consume him more than she does, which is I think a healthy decision on her part.)

It does seem to be pandemic with these shows that the long-term love interest suffers the most with regard to plot arcs-- they have to keep finding ways for these characters to not be together, for some reason. But I don't get that at all. Couldn't you tell just as fascinating a story with a strong couple figuring out how to be together for the long haul? We had sitcoms like "Mad About You" and "Roseanne" that ran for years-- the divorce rate is apparently dropping-- obviously there's some kind of stories out there to be told about people making a real thing work rather than pining after some maybe-requited thing? Instead of-- like with "Lois & Clark," and "Mork & Mindy," and all these so many kinds of shows that when they finally do get together, the show is over-- you could have the show be about their relationship.

In any case, I feel that this version of Iris, while flawed in all the ways they describe, is still beginning her character development and could well overcome these early hurdles. Laurel has had two and a half seasons to develop into an unlikable mess and be eclipsed both by Sarah and Felicity. Iris is still figuring out who she is as a person--

--let's hope both she and the writers get a handle on that sooner rather than later.

Ok. Sorry been busy and haven't posted in a bit.

I am still covering J'onn, but if Amen chooses to come back at some point would be more than willing to hand him back. If Chas' wants to tackle some Supergirl I am cool with that.

I am going to try to have something remotely post like done soon.

Lachi, I hope you are feeling better.

I also take issue with the article's claim that the show has been attempting to forcibly impress on us Iris' skill and gumption as a reporter. Indeed, I think it's been repeatedly showing us the opposite-- that she doesn't know what she's doing yet, she's still a complete rookie whose only breaks-- indeed, her job at the paper-- have only come about as a result of her connection to The Flash.

Harrison Wells gave her a shot at questioning him at the press conference Deep Impact-style a) because he knew her through Barry and/or b) because he knew about her from
historical archives
, not because she was any great shakes at the journaliz biz now.

If you're going to talk about the stuff of legend, I think in their day-- before Barry first died, and before Iris did also, and arguably after given the time-travel shenanigans involved-- they were. That's less relevant these days, though, given their reboot in The New 52 and the fact that their previous incarnations existed decades ago. Obviously, they weren't anywhere near on the level of Lois and Clark with regards to being iconic, but their fleeting moments together onscreen in the "Young Justice" animated series made my heart sing.

I hope that TV!Iris' current status is just growing pains and that over the course of the show she grows into the force of nature I know she can be.

Also: "iZombie" is frickin' adorable.

Since it's based on a "Vertigo" comic, can I cheerfully pretend Liv Moore is running around somewhere in this world too?

I'm sure he'll find time to appreciate that! :)

When last we saw them, Vixen, Felicity, and Rose (with Jack in a carrier) were still in the rear parking lot of The Brownstone. Should I leave them there for now to Bart to happen upon them, or should I move them inside? Whichever works for you.
