Star City- The Heroes of Tomorrow OOC

Some days you people are way too educated and intelligent for me. Multi-layered humor was beyond me today. But if you're asking if I was serious about that being the secret to Damascus steel, then yes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Damascus_steel

That is pretty cool.

I know next to nada about metallurgy, thanks for the data-infusion.

One can assume that whomever's writing for Cosmo isn't also doing articles on historical sword-making for Scientific American, so I trust your judgment on this.

On top of all this, this week Supergirl quoted "Here Comes The Sun," by The Beatles.

Felicity just quoted that same line to Jaime, because he's The Blue Beetle, and because she remembers that her dad liked The Beatles...

...and she quoted it in a conversation with Supergirl.

The hits just keep on comin'. :D

So.

This might be spoilers for some people, but since this thread is full of them...

In the comics, The Calculator was the father of Wendy Harris, aka Proxy, the back-up Oracle who worked with Stephanie Brown's Batgirl when Barbara Gordon was busy helping The JLA and The Birds of Prey and stuff.

Early on, when TNT's "Teen Titans" was still a thing and they were talking about having Oracle be part of that team, I suggested that in our shared universe-- since Barbara Gordon isn't Oracle yet --that role would be filled instead by Proxy.

So, and here's where the spoiler comes in, if The Calculator is Felicity's absentee father, does that mean that Wendy Harris is her half-sister?

I really should stop focusing on just my favorite comics.

But from what you write I would have to go for yes as it makes sense.

So bear with me here: Felicity is the computer chick from Arrow right? She does the overwatch (pun intended) stuff for Ollie and if I am not mistaken from season one (yes I am far behind) she has a crush on Ollie.

Barbara Gordon is the second Batgirl? I can remember a bit on Batman and Robin (baaaaad movie) and I could swear her name was Barbara as well...but anyroad, Barbara is a great Batwoman, gets put into a wheelchair and then starts to take a Jarvis kinda role for Bat and Bird. That much I garnered from various comics.

Now why did I asked to be beared with?

Any idea why main female antagonists and protagonists are always or most of the time portrayed with bust sizes heading from E upwards???

Heh just kidding. My burning question was actually this, is Surfer at a Fortress? And if so whose??? I may have missed a post or two where it is explained.

Also the whole Anti-Matter device diffusing, how did it not kill J'onzz? I thought them to be like the ultimate weapon

Yes on all counts. She and Ollie have a relationship now in the show, but it's rocky.

Barbara is the first Batgirl. Cassandra Cain is the second, Stephanie Brown is the third, at least pre-Flashpoint. Batwoman is a separate identity, these days she's Kate Kane and is bad-ass. That film is an abomination, however.

Yes, in many timelines, Barbara is put in a wheelchair by The Joker, and becomes Oracle, providing data for The Bat Family, The JLA, The Birds of Prey, and other heroes.

It's called "Male Gaze," and while I'm a pretty big fan of lovely ladies, the inherent sexism makes me very sad and angry.

My burning question was actually this, is Surfer at a Fortress? And if so whose??? I may have missed a post or two where it is explained.

Surfer is heading to Supergirl's Fortress of Solitude. Or he's there now, I'll check.

The machines were telepathic but wreathed in a firewall made of The Anti-Life Equation. You couldn't talk to it to tell it to turn off without getting exposed to that stuff, which swallows your soul and makes you a pawn of Darkseid, "The Master." Everyone was able to beat theirs, but Kara got infected by Anti-Life, and J'onn saved her by taking her infection into himself. Before it completely possessed him, he flew way away into space so The Master couldn't as easily use him to annihilate the heroes.

Silver Surfer saw J'onn crash land, imprisoned him temporarily outside The Universe, and is coming to Earth to warn the heroes that J'onny's coming back angry.

....Right....

OK then, I now get the part how J'onzz survived.

Curious about the Male Gaze effect. It is not just centered on comics. I have seen it in animated movies, in games and even in some more... "Mature" stories.

I have recently downloaded a lot of Hentai games for study material (yeah I know it sounds weird) and as I install and play them, I just wonder how on Earth can this actually be entertaining? Or even exciting for that matter. I mean here you have this lady with the body of an Olympic gymnast and two size XXXL watermelons stuffed down her top.

Of course you get more realistic work (and that is what I use in my drawing study) and when I think of the X-Men series Age of Apocaklips, the female bodies was much more toned down and the men didn't look like hulking gorillas. Guess that had something to do with the artist.

Speaking of AoA, the last X-Men movie excited me a lot. They had Blink in there and she actually looked and acted like a battle-hardened Blink. I saw her the first time in the AoA series where she fought...uhm...the horseman in the crystal armor which looks like he is made out of lava?

Now all I need to die happy is a proper portrayal of Morph. He seems like a Plastic Boy/Deadpool mash up. Fun times.

Well perhaps a proper Wildchyld as well, but meh, he doesn't really interest me as much.

The crystal armor lava guy was called Holocaust.

Getting to see Blink in action was breathtaking!

Alpha Flight should get a movie. So should The Exiles! That way Wild Child and Morph would both get their due. Especially Morph; I've written him so many times it's like I know him, but the only non-comics version we got was the one from the 90's X-Men cartoon, and that was before AoA and Exiles perfected the character.

Male Gaze is troublesome because it means so much media is marketed to this perceived subset of what dudes want, so dudes who don't like that stuff, not to mention ladies who don't, are basically ignored. It frustrates me a lot. Basically any time you see a shot or a panel centered around a woman's ass, that's screaming Male Gaze.

Well a nicely defined rump is not bad to look at. But yeah I get the idea, not like they will draw it the same way for the...let's say mousey girls. In fact they are mostly just used as plot developers.

Or when readers express interest in the character, they do a revamp, turn the quiet librarian into a siren in leather. It is actually disturbing.

Been wondering, have you ever written as X-23 and if not, I must say that I am curious as to how you will portray her.

The problem is not the beauty of the rump. I've struggled to overcome my childhood conservative repression for too many years to argue that liking pretty girls is wrong. What's wrong is treating a girl like all she is is an ass to be ogled or fondled or fucked. What's wrong is telling a bony creature like me that she's not desirable because she doesn't look like... *that.* What's wrong is showing nerd girls growing up that TV, movies, comics like these are meant for little boys, not girls, that the boys' tastes are marketable but yours aren't.

And now there's this movement of cishet white boys that have been catered to their whole lives, fighting against any sign that their dominance might be challenged, attacking and boycotting any film that caters to anyone else, people of color, LGBTQ, women...

They're so spoiled by a lifetime of media that has centralized and deified them that anything else is a slap in the face. And teaching men that kind of selfish supremacy and lack of empathy, that's wrong.

Yes, I've played X-23.

I try to hew close to the comics. A stone cold, bad-ass tiny lady, hardly ever uses contractions, damaged by the horrors she's unleashed and endured. Matter-of-fact about her murders and able to drop half-a-dozen men in an eyeblink. Fearful that as a killer clone she has no soul.

Struggling to break free from her past.

Dreading the day that trigger scent will be used to make her kill what friends she has left.

And despite all this: a hero. An X-Man. An Avenger.

I'll bet that same movement also consists mayorly of guys who find an intelligent woman unattractive. Well looking at the comic book super people, before this new overhaul the only main stream character who I would really kick up a fuss about will be Power Girl. But that is just me.

Getting down to brass tacks, in real life if a woman who looks like a comic book character would approach me, I'd head for the hills. There is a huge no there is a MASSIVE difference between reality and what the entertainment media present.

So all power to the real ladies as long as they don't mind the odd compliment every now and then (I don't hand them out without meaning what I say) also why pander to the crowd? To this day I still believe that every lady has her own beauty, whether it is her smile, her eyes, her smarts hell even her body. As long as she accept that she is beautiful, she is and when she believes it, that is when you see it.

Discriminating against a person because they don't conform to the social image of *that* has placed me in the position where I just sit back, light my pipe, take a swig of beer and flip society the bird. When I eat right and exercise, it is not to look good, heck no. It is to give my heart a fighting chance. (Sadly I have been neglecting it the passed few months, so maybe a cardiac arrest is in the cards...)

So I like to draw guys with less and the ladies with just enough, so I like to role play as walking mountains with caramel centres. It is just the way I am.

Getting way off topic sorry.

Sadly enough the furthest I ever got with X-23 comics was her origins and when she hunted down Wolverine. I really need to find a good comic download site.

I do love her in the Facebook game Marvel Avengers. She is just SO badass and coupled with Wolvie you can deal waaaaaay too much damage lol

Pretty much. There are a few things left going on and we need to bring everyone else around to the "Three days later" timeframe. I want everyone to feel free to take there own muse and flush out anything they want in that time. But yes, as of the Moon exploding, the major threat in Gotham is done. Clean up and some political moving and shaking to go.
