Star Trek TNG: The Magic of Our Past

Data

"I've ran several simulations on the data we have on the Andori Nebuala. It absorbs and fragments any energy signal directed at it after around five thousand two hundred and six kilometres - a phenomenom that seems unique to this particular nebula.

"However, by setting up a number of probes, forming a relay system of sorts, we could use them to guide the Enterprise within the nebula. Yes, I believe Class V probes with the IV radiation flux subprobes would be quite sufficient for that task, Geordie."

OOC

OOC: Yes, there is a pulse, but it gets to wait a bit, until I get through with exams next week. Once I'm through with that, I'll post the arrival at the Starbase, the pickup of our extraordinarily patient Marine, then we'll quickly arrive at the scene of our main activities. Thank you all for your patience... :)

Dufray

OOC: well this patient Marine is hopeing this place moves a little faster. and hope to finish this before May 31st, because that's when he leave for Basic training in South Carolina. that's all

Beverly

Beverly smiled at the mention of her son. Picking up her fork and begining on her salad, she said,"Wes is doing quite well but then I always knew he would. He is very smart and very likable but that is just a mother's objective opinion."

There followed a moment of silence as they both concentrated on their food. Finally, laying down her fork, she looked straight at him and said,"About this marine. What do you know about him and how much is he going to clash with the other crewmembers? I dont want to be patching up the crew due to some overexuberance on anyone's part."

Deanna

"Well," I said to Will,"I am looking for anything that might indicate a 'human' error that could explain their disappearance. Just in case we dont find anything that could have effected it from the outside."

Looking up at him, I smiled,"Other than that simply getting to know the crew in case I have to attend to them. If something really bad has happened they are going to need someone who is aware of what to say and do to help them over any mental or emotional problems."

Captain Picard

Jean Luc put down his fork, looking at Beverly, "His record is exemplary. On the record, I have no cause for concern about the good Colonel. However, I was adamant in my oppostion at Starfleet when the topic of putting Marines on Starfleet vessels came up. We are not a military service in that sense. Still... orders are, after all orders."

Sarina

I looked sharply at Sorkorin as he mentioned his new invention. Placing my hand on his arm, I said in a low voice,"Be careful. What you have described seems too close to this evil, technology. It the people got ahold of what you are working on the consequences might be dire."

Turning to the crystal, I sent a message to Ransitar that we were ready to go aboard the strange ship and that, should we be longer than eighteen cycles, he was to assume that something dire had happened to us and was to convene the council in order to proceed without us.

Beverly

Beverly gave the captain a knowing glance and smile. "And you always go by the book," she said, a teasing tone coming to her voice.

"That aside though, I do understand that now is not the time to make waves. But I dont want any harm to come to any of the crew. I hope that he will realize that the Enterprise is not a war vessel just as you have described. Otherwise things may heat up a bit more than we would like."

By that time their main course had arrived and Beverly went silent as she begin on it.

Janeway

Captain Janeway awoke before her wake up call. The worry she felt about the situation that the Voyager and her crew were in was just not going to let her rest any longer.

Getting out of bed and dressing, she pressed her com and said,"Chakotay, this is Janeway. I am on my way to the bridge. Any changes to be reported?"

Getting a negative response she left her room and headed to the turbo lift.

Chakotay

As was sitting eat dinner the Captain Calls. Sher said She is on her way to the Bridge. I start toward the Turbo Lift. I got on and arivved at the Bridge. I sat down waiting for the Captain to arrive.

Janeway

I step on the bridge and nod to Chakotay. "Your turn," I say as he stands to give me my chair. "Get some sleep and see me in a few hours."

Sitting down, I stare out into the vast emptiness of space and hope we have an uneventful journey.

Chakotay

"Ok I will get some sleep or try to.I sent the rest of the people for the away mission to rest.As of know it is me,Tovok,Paris,B'Elanna, and Seven. They are resting for the mission.Good Night Captain." I walked away and got on the turbo lift head toward my room.I got to my room and set the a wake call for two hours. Then layed down and went to sleep.

Captain Picard

Their meal continued, interrupted only by their own conversation, that of two very old, very dear friends. Soon enough, their dinner had been eaten. Jean Luc stood up, performed the infamous Picard Maneuver to straighten his tunic, and looked to Beverly. If she didn't know better, having seen him stare down the Borg, she'd swear he was a bit nervous... "It seems, Beverly, that I have a few minutes before I must be on the bridge. May I escort you to your quarters?"

Beverly

Beverly stood and placed her arm through that of the captain's. "I am flattered that you ask, Jean Luc," She said with a smile,"I would love to have your company to my quarters. Maybe I could offer you a drink before you have to leave. It has been a long time since we have simply talked."

Peros

The renovations were going splendidly, The tower had almost been transformed into a luxury resort and my staff of cooks had been flown in.

I was very anxious to have my first meeting with the captives. To learn of them and their ways. I had grown more and more fascinated with them the more I found out about them. I'm sure that this will be a delightful meeting, in which I can expand my knowledge of the Universe through my conversing with the imprisoned explorers.

Captain Picard

The couple walked through the corridors, Beverly's arm resting comfortably on Jean Luc's, oblivious to the approving looks of the crewmen as they passed them. "Well, Beverly... I would be delighted." He flashed her a smile which was all the more special for its rarity.

Jean Luc tapped his communicator, "Picard to Commander Riker..." Will Riker's baritone voice replied quickly, "Yes, Captain?"

"Number One, I'd like you to handle the approach and docking procedures with the Starbase. Something has come up, and I will be otherwise occupied. Please contact me when the colonel is ready to board. I'd like for you, Mr. Worf, and myself to be on hand in the transporter room to greet him."

"Of course, Captain... I'll get to the bridge right away."

"Thanks, Will. Picard out."

Jean Luc patted Beverly's hand, "There, now we have time for a proper chat!"

Ransitar

Ransitar's astral form peered in on the prisoners in their new quarters. Peros was certainly blowing the council's budget on this. Such opulence! Certainly far more than prisoners deserved, something meant for visiting dignitaries perhaps. Well, maybe Peros was planning for a future liason there himself, he thought with a grin. At any rate, it wasn't his concern.

The message from Sarina flowed into his mind. In his astral state, the message struck his heightened senses with more intensity than normal. Her voice, her essence, seemed to momentarily become part of him. He lingered in the sensation for a moment, then realized what she had said. Eighteen cycles? But then, it was a huge vessel, and there were only two of them exploring it. Hmph, Sorkorin must be loving this, eighteen cycles alone with... But then again, maybe that would be good. That should be enough time to make anyone thoroughly sick of being in his presence. With a silent chuckle he answered Sarina, requesting that she set up a schedule for reporting to him, maybe every cycle or two. If something bad did happen up there, it would be best to know as soon as possible.

A flicker from the perimeter guardians warned him that someone was approaching the Tower. He followed the silver trail back to his body, and opened his eyes. Peros was approaching, probably ready to let the prisoners know who was taking such wondrous care of them. Ransitar stood and commanded Tatya and Wentya to stay, then put on his mask of disdain and waited for the other's arrival.

Sorkorin

I listen to Sarina as she sends the message to Ransitar. "Little spineless maggot", I think to myself as she concludes the message.

I turn back to Sarina as she deactivates the crystal. "I am quite aware of your concerns, but our job is to improve on our magic to make it easier for us to use is it not?"

And then it clicked inside of my head. "Sarina, is it possible that this thing called technology is just our magic taken further? Could it be that someday we will be at the same place as these people?"

There is a bounce in my step as I walk over to the teleport glyph. Maybe there will be a way to get these people treated as the guests that they really are.

"Are you ready to go to their ship in the sky?"

Sarina

Sorkorin's question caught me off guard and he was on the transport glyph before I could react. Hurrying up to him, I grabbed his arm and turned him, not too gently to face me. The look on my face must have shown my worry and fear because he backed away from me a step or two.

"Sorkorin! Do you realize what you are doing? You are taking the first steps down the path of this technology. If Ransitar could hear you he would have you before the council on charges of heresay and perverting our magics. And I would have no option but to try you on those charges."

I let go and stepped back myself, breathing hard with the emotions that were going through me with the vision of being forced to try and convict the man before me.

"And that would be a nightmare I could not endure. Sorkorin...technology and magics are two completely different things. And techonology, if introduced into our culture, will be the end of our civilization just as it was back then. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes that our ancestors made. Now, I will hear no more about these ideas of yours and I suggest you file them away as fleeting ideas before Ransitar gets wind of what you have been saying."

Stepping back on the glyph, I held out my trembling hands for him to take so that we could start the transportation magic.

Deanna

I looked over to Will as he talked to the captain and I interposed before he could say anything.

"Go," I said to him with a smile,"Duty calls. I know well how that feels. I have a lot of work to do anyway and I will probably still be awake when you get off of your shift. Stop by and we will share some coffee and a chat."

He flashed me one of those smiles that always made my knees feel like rubber and headed out the door leaving me to get back to my files and trying to push the sight of his handsome face from my mind.

Beverly

I gave him a knowing smile and said,"You mean you are actually going to stop working and even delegate the responsiblity of the ship to Will long enough to chat with me?" The tone was teasing and friendly...the tone of an old friend.

"Well, Jean Luc, I am flattered and fully intend to take advantage of the situation. Before you know it we might even be able to have you taking your shore leave and actually enjoying it. Though I think that will take some time."

Entering her quarters, she turned and, sobering, said,"What will you have? Name it and its yours. I am looking forward to this chat of ours. It really has been too long since we have simply talked with each other."

Sorkorin

I was almost shocked at how upsat Sarina got with me. "Ok. But Sarina, if we can not talk about this amongst ourselves, then who can we talk about it with? Are we not on this council for our foresight and knowledge? I'm sorry. I'll never bring this up again. "

I move up to join Sarina on the platform. "Are you ready?"

Sarina

I wondered if the sadness I felt at having to dampen Sorkorin's enthusiasm showed in my eyes. I hated to do it but these were dangerous times and I didnt need the people fired up and going on a witch hunt after anyone...and especially not Sorkorin.

He was right. The council was supposed to be open minded and fair and be able to look on problems with a fresh viewpoint unhindered by prejudice. In a perfect world. But this was not a perfect world and many were prejudiced against this technology, many were interested in it and many more wer just plain scared. Myself included. It wasnt that I was afraid of losing power or status....I had often thought of giving up my seat as chairman before this crisis. I was more afraid of the death of our civilization and our people.

I also was afraid that views such as Sorkorin's would enflame those who sided with Ransitar and right now we could not afford to have the council divided.

Grasping his hands, I threw him a look that pleaded for him to understand before we both begin to chant the transport spell that would take us to the sky ship. My eyes were still locked with his as I felt the room waiver and disappear as the magic surrounded us.

Captain Picard

With some feelings of nervousness, well-masked, Jean Luc entered Beverly's quarters. His nervousness evaporated under the warmth of her smile and gentle teasing, and he chuckled "Beverly, you just may accomplish that. After this mission, we are due for shore leave at Rhiannon 3. How does an actual vacation exploring the native culture's recently uncovered, fifty millenia-old ruins sound to you? Oh, and I'll take some tea, please."
