Star Trek TNG: The Magic of Our Past

Sorkorin

As stood there looking into Sarina's eyes as she talked to me. And I didnt see anger or hurt. I saw fear. Concern. Was she worried about me?

We grasp each others hand as we start the incantations for the spell, and slowly our world fades out the be replaced by something I find almost impossible to describe. I see this circle in a window that must be our planet. For I see the stars that we have stared at. I hear beeping and chirps and whirring from the machines.

I look over at you and you seem overwheled by where we are.

"We made it", I say as I start to walk around. Careful not to touch anything. "How are we going to look at this ship?"

Beverly

I handed him some tea and retrieved some for myself from the food replicator. Sitting down, I gestured to a chair across from me and said,"That sound fabulous. I would love to accompany you."

Looking over the rim of my cup at him, I sipped my tea before continuing. "That is if this mission is successful. I dont know. Something about it spooks me, if you want to be untechnical and emotional. I know that ships disappear in space, especially when the area of space in unknown but I just get the feeling that we are headed into something that we have never encountered."

Giving him a wiry grin, I continued. "Okay, I know that that was nothing like a report a ship's doctor should give to her captain. But I am speaking as a friend, not as a doctor. And a woman who feels something is not right. I cant put my finger on it but its there."

Sarina

I swallowed hard and closed my eyes for a minute, trying to get my rapid heartbeat to stop. Quickly casting the spell for protection from evil, I open them again to stare around. Supressing an urge to transport out of this place now I force my feet to move one step at a time.

Everything seemed to be made of metal instead of wood and I wondered how it could stay up in the sky as it must be extreamly heavy. Walking up some stairs, I walked along the upper level of the room we were in, looking at everything but not touching.

This was going to be harder than I thought. There were no books, no parchments and no outward sign of any records we could peruse to gain information from. I wondered briefly if this was the only room of this ship and if so, how all of those people who were our prisoners...guests...could fit into such a small space.

Shaking my head and muttering about the evils of technology, I passed by a wall that seemed to have a crack in it when it opened with a whoosh. Startled, I fell back and my hand hit some buttons on the metal desk at my right. Immediately a woman's voice filled the air and I had to strangle a cry as I heard her speak, not able to make out what she was saying in my fright.

Sorkorin

As I continue to look around at what must be the controls for the ship I hear this woosh and you gasp in shock.

All of the sudden I hear this female voice call out, " Please identify. I must have authorization before initiating the self-destruct procedure."

What is this?? Self-destruct procedure? I turn and look at you, and all of the color has drained from your face.

"What has happenend Sarina?"

Captain Picard

While Jean Luc wasn't given to flights of fancy, or to trusting in 'forebodings', he'd known Beverly long enough to give anything she said serious consideration. "I'm glad you've decided to join me, Beverly. Didn't even have to bring out my hole card: the ruins are on the loveliest isolated tropical island you'll find in the sector!" He smiled warmly, then grew serious, "Ships of Starfleet disappearing isn't something we've had too much of in the last few decades, unlike back in Jim Kirk's days. Still, space is a very large and unknown place, and things beyond our reckoning occur everyday. Please keep me posted if you find anything more concrete behind your concern."

Inhaling deeply, he reached over and took her hand in his own, "So, Doctor, what is your evaluation of the ship's Captain? Is he finally learning to relax a little?"

Beverly

Beverly smiled and shook her head at the captain. "Jean Luc, you are my best and dearest friend. I feel closer to you than to anyone else on the ship so take this statement in the light it is ment. You wouldnt know how to relax if someone handed you a manual. You always have been and always will be a business first kind of person and that is why you are so damn good at running this ship."

Leaning back, she looked at him long and steady. "However, your physicals lately have been telling me that the stress is getting to you. Even if you dont want to admit it. And, as someone who cares for you beyond a ship's doctor, I am worried about the effects of the stress on you."

Getting up and putting down her tea, she walked behind the captain and placed her hands on his shoulders. "Now, relax and let me put some of my doctoring to use," She said in a light tone of voice. "Let me see if I cant get some of that stress relieved before we get into the midst of our current crisis."

Pushing him back into the couch, she begin to massage his shoulders and backs, her knowledgable fingers seeking out and kneading the muscles and releasing the tension in them.

Sarina

I looked at Sorkorin and shook my head. "If it was magic I would say that it was a ward of protection or someone had conjured a spirit to watch over the ship but with this technology I do not know."

Getting up my nerve, I called out to the empty space. "What is this self destruct you speak of," I said to whatever spirit now possessed this empty vessel,"And who are you?"

There was a sound of beeping and whirling for a moment and then the voice was back. "This is the ship's computer of the Science Vessel Tusla. Authorization of Captain Joseph Rodgers needed for self destruct sequence."

I threw a puzzled look at Sorkorin. This Com-pu-ter was definately guarding the vessel but whatever information we needed lay in someone named Joseph Rodgers. The captain part was easy to understand...a captain was in charge of a ship and I could figure out the words self and destruct which sounded like something I did not want to happen. What 'self' was this 'Com-pu-ter' going to 'distruct' upon the captains authorization?

Going over to Sorkorin, I huddled near and lowered my voice to try and keep it from the female who was obviously in a spirit state. "I am afraid that we are going to need this Captain," I said, my mind going back to a man of dark color who seemed to speak for the whole group. My assumption is that he was the leader...the captain of this vessel. "He is the one we need to work through to gain the information we need. I think we can get ahold of Ransitar and have him put a suggestion spell upon this captain so that he will cooperate with us and then bring him here to show us the information we seek."

I looked up at my companion. I knew he was not going to like this and he was going to protest, especially with me allowing Ransitar to enchant one of the 'guests' but I saw no other way.

Sokorin

"Allow Ransitar to cast a suggestion spell on the captain of this ship? ", I say as calmly as possible as the blood rushes to my face. "Are you completely insane? Why can we not at least ask the captain if he will help us before we use our spells on him?"

I move away from Sarina as I start pacing this area that we are in. Why do we have to resort to trickery and deceit if we want something?

I turn back to look at Sarina, "If you are just going to manipulate this investigation to return whatever results you like I shall have no part in it and I will leave. If we are here to try and figure these people and their technology out I will stay and help. The decision is yours Sarina. "

Sarina

My eyes flare and I bite back a hot retort. This is no time to get into petty difference of opinions. Fighting among oursleves is not going to do any good.

Turning to Sorkorin, I say in as calm a voice as I can,"I understand that you do not like the idea but do you really think that those people are going to cooperate willingly? What I am proposing is simply to give him a spell of suggestion so that he gives us the authorization that we need to get the information that we want."

Walking over to him, I place my hands on his arm and look up into his eyes. "Please understand, I am not proposing that we do any harm to him and I am not trying to manipulate the information we get. I am simply trying to gain access to the information we need in order to make our report to the council."

Sokorin

She just doesn't understand does she? I stop pacing and motion for her to sit in on of the chairs across from me. "Sarina", I say calmly, "What does it hurt to ask him for his help? Even if he does not give it, we lose nothing. We can still cast our spells on him and find out the information anyway. But one thing that I have already concluded is that we will need either them or their knowledge if we are ever going to figure out this ship. This is so different that we will not figure it out in 4 seasons without their help or their knowledge."

I get up again and turn to look at our planet. "I suggest that we teleport down directly to where our guests are and you and I talk to this captain. Opinion?"

Sarina

I sighed and rubbed my temples. At this rate Sokorin and I were going to spent all eighteen cycles arguing the fine points of morality with each other.

"Very well, Sorkorin," I said to him as I stood,"We will do it your way...at first. But I will not hesitate to place a spell...and a very nasty spell at that....on any one of them who tries to use this technology to harm our people."

Producing a crystal from my robes, I added,"Our people come before these intruders and that is all the morality I require."

Concentrating on the crystal, I send a message to Ransitar and let him know that plans have changed. We will be using a transport spell to enter the 'guests' chamber and he was instructed to remove all spells that would harm us and to meet us in the room along with Peros.

Looking over at Sorkorin, I said,"Done. Now...shall we go?"

Sorkorin

I start to find out what she means by 'harm' but stop myself before I get started. I am getting what I want. I should be thankful of that.

'Sarina, do you honestly think I would want any harm to come to the people that we rule over? I am just trying to make sure that we make the right decision for the right reasons. That is all."

I wait as she send the message to Ransitar and whats for his response that he has lowered the protections.

Ransitar

Ransitar frowned as he listened to Sarina's message. What was this all about? He palmed his own crystal and concentrated:

It's not just a matter of 'turning them off,' Sarina. The guards and wards took quite a bit of time and energy to prepare. But I could lower them individually as we pass if I may accompany you. However, by your Council Order, Peros is the only one authorized to have direct contact with the prisoners. And despite my curiosity in this matter, I am uneager to countermand our compromise, even for you, without either a very good reason or the agreement of Peros. I believe he will arrive shortly, but I cannot say how soon."

Captain Picard

Picard allowed himself to be placed on the couch, and sighed as Beverly kneaded his muscles, "Seeing as how these are doctor's orders, it would be foolish of me to disobey. Mmmm... Beverly, you missed your calling. That feels marvelous"

No one else on the ship was close enough to Jean Luc for him to feel fully comfortable completely relaxing. Beverly, however, was different. With her, he could drift off to sleep...

Sarina

I broke contact with the crystal and relayed the message to Sorkorin. Grimacing, I said,"He is right you know. He is simply stating facts."

Looking around the ship for an alternative, I said,"I wonder if a spell of location would tell us where the information we seek is."

Taking a deep breath, I closed my eyes and begin to chant a simple spell of location. My energies building, I looked around to see where better to cast the spell. I must have not been as rested as I thought I thought I was for I stumbled and had to reach out for something to grab hold of. My hand came in contact with one of the metal tables with the lights and noises before my magic could disapate from the broken concentration.

My eyes went wide as I felt as if a thousand lightening bolts had struck me and kept me glued onto the metal table. I had little recollection afterward but it seemed that my magic energies had triggered something within the metal tables for I soon heard the female voice again calling out,"Red alert. Red alert. Intruder on board."

Lights begin to flash and the worst noises that I had ever heard blared around me...seeming to split my head in two. I was finally able to disengage myself from the metal table and fell to the floor. The noise ceased but the lights continued to flash and the female voice was again heard. "Distress signal sent. Distress signal sent." Over and over again as if whoever owned the voice knew no other words.

Sorkorin's cry brought my attention towards the window which had, up to then shown our homeworld. Images were flashing upon it. Pictures of other ships like this one with descriptions passed before us as well as other information that was hard to make out. I did get one thing out of it though....these people we were holding were not the only ones out there-as we had figured out earlier. But by the information moving on the screen, I gathered that there were many more than we had at first thought. Enough to eliminate our small world and our people also. My heart fell and I had a hard time remaining standing. This disease called technology was more widespread than we thought....more than we could ever hope to cope with.

Beverly

Beverly chuckled. "How do you think I worked my way through med school," She said in a light hearted voice.

She continued to massage his neck, shoulders and back..kneading out the tenseness of the missions they had been through and were now going through...until she felt him totally relax and his breathing become easier.

As his gentle breathing became regular, showing that he was drifting to sleep and she smiled and stopped her massage. Leaning in close to him, she whispered,"NOW you are relaxed."

"Computer, dim lights," She said softly into the air and nodded he wishes were carried out. Retrieving an extra blanket she placed it over the captian as he slumped on the couch asleep. "I will just let you get a few hours of sleep before you have to go back on duty," She murmured as she covered him up. "You really do need the rest, Jean Luc."

Standing there she looked down at him and almost reached a hand down to caress his face, stopping just before she made contact and pulling away again. Turning instead into her bedroom, she turned on the light directly above her and pulled out the book she had been trying to read for about three weeks now and begin from where she left off.

Captain Picard

Waking up automatically was a valuable skill in a Starfleet officer, and Jean Luc had that skill down to an art. Thirty minutes before they were due to arrive at the Starbase, he awakened. Not at all groggy, he immediately realized where he was, rose, stretched, and saw Beverly sitting nearby. "Thank you, Beverly. That was quite relaxing." He smiled, "We'll have to do this more often. If you will excuse me, I have just enough time to get to my quarters and freshen up before our arrival." He stepped over to her as she rose. After a second's uncertain hesitation, he reached to her, and embraced her in a warm hug. "This truly was very nice," he murmured into her ear.

Beverly

Beverly returned the hug and stepped back. Looking up at the captain, she smiled and said,"What are friends for? Now go or everyone will be searching for you. I have to head to Sick Bay anyway."

Accompanying him to the door she gave him one more quick smile before they parted ways. Each going to their own respective destinations.

Sorkorin

I turn to look at Sarina, my face turning white.

"We must get out of here now. I do not know what is happenng but it cannot be good. We must leave this ship now.!"

Sarina

"Hold on,"I said to Sokorin as I scanned the pictures before me. All of a sudden, the pictures came to a halt and a picture of another alien ship along with the picture of a woman who was dressed in a costume matching what our prisoners were wearing was staring me in the face.

Sokorin grabbed my hand and pulled me into a circle to proceed with the transport spell. But not before I had memorized the face of the woman and the name of the alien ship. Voyager.

Will Riker

Taking my spot on the bridge, I watch as approach the station. "Captain, we have arrived at starbase, we will be docking in 10 minutes." I call into the com.

I watch the stars rotate across the screen as the Enterprise pivots to begin the docking procedure, awaiting the Captains arrival.

Captain Picard

As the great ship, Enterprise, docked at the massive Starbase, Captain Picard entered the bridge. He walked up to the First Officer, and spoke quietly, "Ah, I see you've not broken my ship, Number One... thank you." Captain Picard was smiling, and obviously in a terrific mood... surprisingly so, given his stated misgivings about taking onboard a Starfleet Marine.

The ship was fully docked in short order. "Number One, Mr. Worf, Mr. Data, let's go meet our guest, shall we?"

The officers arrived a few minutes later at the docking clamp entry area, and awaited the colonel's arrival.

Col.Dufray

*Dufray sat in the Starbase's tavern having a drink when a ensign walks up*
"Sir, the Enterprise has justed docked and is awaiting your arrival" dufray stood up placed the glass down and made his way to the docking bay.

as he walked in he noticed a Human, a Klingon and what looked like the famous andrid Data. he slowly made his way across the room.

"Col. Charles Dufray, and you are. "

OFF: tag neale

Captain Picard

An athletic figure in the uniform of a Starfleet Marine approached us. From the change in Worf's posture, I knew this was the reknowned Colonel Dufray, Worf's old friend.

"Colonel Dufray, welcome aboard the USS Enterprise. I am Captain Picard, this is my First Officer, Commander Riker, my Science Officer, Commander Data, and I believe you know my Chief of Security, Commander Worf."

/OOC: Waiting for Worf, aka Alaric, who will show you to your quarters. We will be headed for the planet very soon, so if anyone has anything they want their characters to do before then, go for it!

OOC: As soon as indy posts I will get the native's thread going. Things are going to heat up on the planet now.
