Corporal James

HAVEN, NEW HAVEN - SCIENCE COMPLEX, WESTERN LEVEL
As corporal James and his companions traversed through the corridor leading to the western portion of the complex, they came upon more corpses of the scientists working there.

"Alright guys, let's keep our eyes alert for any movement." James told his companions as they moved cautiously forward, unaware that they were being followed from behind.

Stopping at a half-opened door at the end of the corridor, James motioned one of his companion's toward him.

"You take the lead, we'll cover you." James informed him, as he readied his rifle.

Readying his rifle, the marine kicked the door wide open and rushed forward, James and another marine went forward, leaving the fourth marine to guard the door.

As James and the others explored the room, they were surprised to find that inside the room was a huge reactor.

"Woah, that's a big reactor, but it look's like this room is secure." James muttered as he surveyed the room for any zerg.

Meanwhile the marine guarding the door was admiring the reactor as well, when suddenly he experienced a piercing pain in his chest. Dropping his rifle, the marine watched in horror as he saw two claws protruding from his chest. Just as he was about to scream, the claws tore him into half, the torso landing a few feet in front of his lower half with a thud, the mouth wide open. The lower half spurted a fountain of blood, showering the door and the floor.

James heard the thud behind him and turned to see a Hydralisk dismember his companion. Choking back his grief, James fired a hail of bullets at the zerg's head but it managed to avoid most of the bullets.

As the Hydralisk roared in fury against it's pain, it released it's volatile spit at James. Raising his rifle to defend himself, the spit damaged the rifle's trigger mechanism rendering it useless. Throwing the rifle, James closed in on the Hydralisk and delivered vicious right hook on the Hydralisk's head, it's head swaying backward from the impact. Seeing his chance, James grabbed the head with both of his hands and delivered a DDT, ramming the face to the ground. As the marines cheered at James feat of strength, James managed to glimpse outside the room... a horde zerglings and hydralisk's were rushing towards them.

"ZERG!!!" James shouted as he ran to close the door.

Just as his hand touched the door, a zergling rammed into him, knocking him backwards to the floor, then another zergling jumped on top of him With horror, James saw dozens of zerg rush into his companions as he struggled to break free from the zerglings. Just when he managed to throw off the zerglings, he was aware of a hydralisk beside him before it's claw went through the faceplate of his suit and into his brain.

The sounds of gunshot and the screams from the doomed marines echoed across the complex.

Gabriel Thorn

A soft touch on his face wakes Gabe up, he looks up to find Clarissa, his date for to the opening of the new City Hall standing next to his bed. There is tears in her eyes and a light tremble in her lips

"I warned you not to go Kevin"

He smiles at her

"My dear I am alright, the doc patched me up and he said that in a few days I'll be healthy enough to continue my outdoor studies"

She sits down on the edge of the bed and for the first time Gabe realizes that she actually is a very attractive woman, when she speaks it's in a hushed tone

"The pistol you gave me...where did you find it? Why did you have it with you?"

I am a Dominion spy and brought the pistol to the dance just in case I got found out

"I found it laying outside the walls and thought that maybe I should return it to one of the officers after the celebrations"

She smiles and place a hand on his cheek

"You are a good man Kevin, so many would have kept it or sold it. I'll go hand it in at the Armory a bit later for you"

Gabe forces a smile to his face

"You are too kind to me, that will be fabulous thank you"

"Well the doctor said I shouldn't stay too long, I just wanted to make sure that you are allright"

"I'll be fine, I'll be up and about before you know it"

She gets off the bed and heads out of the door

'Another fine lie Gabe, congratulations'

Gabe sighs at his own thoughts and close his eyes

Lieutenant Johnson Martel

HAVEN, NEW HAVEN – SCIENCE COMPLEX, EASTERN SECTION
Johnson and his companions cautiously explored every room they encountered as they made their way through the corridor. Occasionally they would spot a few zerglings in their area in which they judiciously killed them all but all they would usually find were the dead corpses of the people working here.

“God, this place is badly messed up.” Johnson muttered as he kicked a table to the side to reveal another dead scientist, “All the time we were busy fighting the zerg at City Hall, this place was their real target.”

One of the marines who was checking up on the identification of the dead scientists suddenly let out a gasp of surprise when the scientist he was checking up on, reached up to grab his hand.

“Lieutenant! We have a survivor here.” The marine called out as he removed his field medicine pack from his pack.

“Alright, I’ll be there in a bit.” Johnson replied as he paused to check up on a computer console that was still working. Seeing that the monitor was covered with blood, Johnson wiped it with his hands until he could see the monitor easier.

“Hmmmm… New Haven – Revolution. Damn… there’s a password.” Johnson swore briefly before turning his attention to the surviving scientist.

Kneeling in front of the scientist, Johnson tried to get him to focus.

“Sir? Are you feeling alright?” Johnson asked the man.

“Yes, not too badly hurt thanks to you people. Where is… oh my god.” the man saw the other corpses of his companions and then threw up on the floor.

“Dead… everyone’s dead. The project… it’s ruined…” the man lamented miserably, when suddenly a burst of fire was clearly heard.

“Who fired?” Johnson asked his companions.

“None of us fire that shot, sir. It must have been from the others.” The marine guarding the door answered, glancing briefly outside to check if there was anybody outside.

“Alright, sir. We’ll have to get you to safety. We’ll need…” Johnson started to say when another burst of fire was heard this time coming from the door.

“Shit! Lieutenant!! Zerg approaching. I need covering fire!” the marine manning the door shouted to the other marine who ran to help him.

“Sir… we’ll need you to hide… sir?!” Johnson was startled when the scientist grabbed his hand and tried to stand up gingerly.

“We need to get inside the containment chamber… they can’t breach that door… it’s 30 inches of pure steel…” the man rambled as he tried to drag Johnson towards another room.

“Marines!! Fall back!!” Johnson shouted at the two marines guarding the door, as Johnson and the scientist entered the containment chamber.

As the marines started to fall back, one of the marines closed the door and barricaded it with a nearby table. Running towards the room, the door suddenly burst open by a Hydralisk, the table narrowly missing one of the marines. As the marines ran to the door, numerous zerglings rushed inside the room as they chased after them. Just when the marines reached the door, two Hydralisk burst out from the floor behind them and grabbed ahold of them.

“Lieutenant!! Close the fucking door… it’s too late!!” shouted one of the marines at Johnson just as the claws of the Hydralisk holding him severed off his left arm.

“God damn it!” Johnson swore as he raised his rifle and released a burst of bullets at the Hydralisk’s visible head, one of the bullets lodging into it’s eye, prompting the Hydralisk to release the marine who toppled to the ground.

“You! Close the fucking door! NOW!!!” the other marine shouted at the scientist, who immediately started working on the console that operated the door.

Repositioning his rifle at the scientist, “Don’t you dare! These are my men! They don’t deserve to be abandoned! Now get away from the controls or…” Johnson threatened the scientist.

“Lieutenant… it’s over… save yourself…” the marine who lost his arm gasped out as he reached for the grenade attached to belt.

“What?! No… Don’t do that you fool. We can make it!” Johnson started to say when he glimpsed behind them the rest of the zerg catching up to them, “DAMN IT!!! Close the damn door…” Johnson choked out at the scientist, as he aimed his rifle at the other Hydralisk’s head and drilled holes into it’s face.

The marine it was holding also fell on the floor, grabbing his grenade as well. The marines stared at their lieutenant’s anguished face as the doors closed in front of him. Just as the doors automatically sealed shut, the zerglings reached the fallen marines. Smiling grimly at each other, the marines released the pins on their grenades.

Johson stared out the window as the zerglings feasted briefly on his marines when a blinding flash of light flashed through and both the scientist and Johnson were thrown backwards from the impact of the explosion, both of them smashing into the wall, knocking them unconscious. Outside the containment chamber, the charred remains of the zerg and the marines were visible in the bright sky from the large gaping blackened holes on the wall.

Michael Forrester

HAVEN, NEW HAVEN – SCIENCE COMPLEX
As Michael and his men cautiously traversed the corridor, the lights flickered on and off randomly. The stench of the corpses was overwhelming the marines that they had to wear their helmets.

“Damn it, captain. What the hell is going on here…” muttered one of the marines, as he nudged a corpse to it’s side to reveal a woman scientist, her face disfigured by vicious claw marks.

“I know what you mean… this place reeks of death… and the sad part is… we didn’t even know about this place until it was too late…” answered Michael, motioning the two marines towards a nearby door.

The two marines positioned themselves beside the door, as Michael kicked the door wide open, the three men rushed inside the room, with their rifles raised. They were surprised to find the room lacking of any signs of fighting or any corpses within the room. What they found instead was computer that took up half the room. Noticing that the computer console was blinking, Michael’s approached the console, while his men went outside the room to stand guard outside.

“Hmmm… New Haven Science Complex – Mainframe” Michael read from the monitor, “I guess this means that this computer has access to all general systems within the complex.” Michael thought as he started to access some of the systems available.

After a few tries, Michael managed to bring up the schematics of the science complex’ interior.

“Nice… let’s see…” Michael exclaimed as he pored over the map, “Found it… Governor Hanson should be three floors below, at the laboratory. Wow… that laboratory sure has a strong foundation.” Michael exclaimed as he pored over the details regarding the construction of the Science Complex.

As Michael downloaded the map to his PDA, Michael pondered as to why there were several rooms below that had no clear marking. Suddenly, the emergency lights started flashing, sirens started, and a slight tremor was felt by Michael.

“What the hell was that?” Michael exclaimed as he grabbed hold of the console to steady himself.

“Are you guys alright out there?” Michael called out to his men, as he approached the door.

“We’re alright captain… Just a little shocked that’s all.” The marine near the door answered back.

“Alright… just give me a few more minutes. I need to check up on a few things.” Michael told them as he went back to the console.

As Michael continued to peruse the available systems, he found out that the main generator within the building was not functioning and that the back – up generators outside the building were close to powering down to recharge. Michael realized that the main generator have to be fixed, he checked on his PDA for the location of the main generator, revealing that it was one floor below him. Just as he was about to leave, Michael noted that the Security System which was unavailable earlier was now active. Accessing the Security System, Michael became aware of how large the zerg threat within the building was when on the camera screen, he found dozens of zergling converged on the floors below him as well as a few roaming Hydralisks. As he shifted camera after camera, Michael was surprised to find Johnson in a containment chamber along with a scientist, both of whom appeared unconscious also he found out that the three other marines who joined him were also dead.

“Damn it! This isn’t going to work.” Michael cursed as he realized that the situation was now graver than he anticipated, he knew that he should call for backup.

As Michael waited for the communication link to be established, he called out for his men, “Guys, get inside now.”

As the two marines entered the room, Michael related the current situation to them as he knew it.

“… We’re going to need help, Captain.” a marine commented, as he stared grimly at the camera focused on his fellow marines who were now dead.

“I know. I’m contacting them now.” Michael answered as he waited for the link – up to be established.

One of the marines went to the console and started to check up on the other functions of the Security System when he found something interesting.

“Captain… I think there’s a way to even up the odds.” The marine told Michael, “I just found out that the Security Turrets in Floors B1, B2, and B3 were not activated, so activating them will give us an edge. Also I found out that B1 and B2 has Sentinel guardians.”

“Sentinel guardians? What are those?” Michael asked.

“According to the schematics, Sentinel guardians are modified adjutants that has the capability of mobility as well as offensive and defensive attachments.” The marine recited as he viewed the console.

“Cool… those zerg are gonna have a big surprise.” The other marine spoke excitedly at the prospect.

“Hmmmm alright, why don’t you activate the defense system before we go down and see the governor.” Michael told the marine.

“Alright, Captain… Turrets and Sentinels coming right up.” The marine responded as he tried to activate the security system, “… Captain, problem… there’s not enough power in the system for the turrets or the sentinels to activate.”

“Damn it…” Michael cursed, banging his fist to the wall, just then the com – link went active.

“Captain Michael?”

“Finally… Corporal George. Are you there? Can you hear me?”

“Yes, Captain. I can hear you loud and clear. Captain, things are getting settled around here… What’s your status at your end?”

“Corporal, we just lost five men and Johnson might be dead. We need reinforcements. How many men can you assemble to join us?”

“… Twenty – four, captain. We’ll try to get some of the militia to join us. We’ll be there in twenty minutes. Can you hold out?”

“Don’t worry about it, we’ll be okay…”

“Alright then. Anything else you need, captain?”

“Noth… wait… is Van there?”

“Yes, captain. Hold on, I’ll go and get him.”

“Van?” The marine at the console asked the captain.

“Yeah, the chief engineer around here. If anyone can help us power those machines, it’s him.” Michael told him.

“Michael. It’s me, Van. What can I do for you?”

“Van… I need your advice. There isn’t enough power to activate the defense system in the basement because the main generator is down. Do you have any ideas to fix this?”

“Yeah, you could try rerouting the power from the nonessentials to the security system, which should work well. Trouble is, you can only do that at the mainframe.”

“Don’t worry about it. We’re at the mainframe.”

“You are?! That’s great… Now listen…” Michael listened to his instructions as he went to the console to reroute the power from nonessential systems to the security system.

“It’s done. Activating the turrets and sentinels now. Thanks for your help, Van.”

“No problem, Mike. Good luck, we’ll be there in less than twenty minutes with the cavalry. You stay alive until then.”

“You can count on that. Michael out.”

“Now let’s see what’s happening in the basement.” Michael muttered as he activated the cameras in the basement.

As the monitor showed the working cameras at the basement, Michael and his men watched in awe as the turrets and Sentinel guardians brought death to the zerg underground.

“That worked well… don’t you think?” Michael commented at the carnage the defense system wrought.

“Yeah… it should be a piece of cake now to mop up the rest.” One of the marines boasted.

“We’ll it’s not over yet… Let’s move. We still have to fix the main generator.” Michael told them before he went out the door.

As they ran towards the nearest stairwell, the marines at City Hall began their preparations to help their captain. As Michael and his men went downstairs to the Underground Research Laboratory Floor B1, they were able to hear the turrets still shooting down any zerg still there. Using the map on Michael’s PDA, they cautiously moved their way towards the generator room. As they stood outside the door of the Main Generator, Michael motioned for his men to watch for signs of the zerg. Opening the door, the lights from inside the main generator suddenly flickered on, to reveal countless numbers of zerg within.

As Zeladar stood on a high rooftop, he gazed out over the capital city of Haven, surveying the carnage of the finished battle. The surviving Terran soldiers moved across the battlefield, sifting through the carcasses of hundreds of Zerg looking for their fallen comrades. Here and there a shot would ring out as a soldier dispatched a Zerg that was still twitching, all the while on guard for another of the beasts to burst out of hiding to claim an unfortunate victim. The shattered and hulking remains of six ultralisks could be seen amongst the wreckage they created, a few still in mostly one piece, most having been blown apart by the Terran tanks. But the most intact and curious carcass was that of the monster that Zeladar himself killed, its remains on the ground several stories below him.

The creature, while obviously Zerg, had a disturbingly obvious number of Protoss features to it, too many to be by accident. It could not be an infested Protoss as time had proven the ancient race to be immune to the Zerg infestation that claimed so many Terrans, but it could also not be of pure Zerg origin because of the Protoss features. It had to have been created somewhere, but by whom and how was beyond Zeladar’s scope. He would have to consult his elders later about the creature’s origins and about a disturbing event that occurred while he attacked the beast: as he delivered the killing blow to the monster, Zeladar had briefly connected with the creature’s mind. He sensed that the creature, like the Zerg that lay dead all around the battlefield, had no will of its own; some unseen, formidable dark power lay in the shadows pulling the creature’s strings.

The sound of a distant explosion interrupted Zeladar’s contemplation, and turning in the direction the sound came from, he could see in the distance a plume of smoke coming from the side of a building. Zeladar narrowed his senses and directed them upon the structure, seeking to determine the cause. He found more Zerg. Lots more. It seemed the battle had not ended, it had simply moved.

Zeladar briefly turned away from the building and looked up. Once facing the building again, he pulled at the Void around him, wrapping it around him in a cloud of smoke and vanishing. Seconds later after reappearing in mid-air high above where he had just stood, he was soaring through the sky at a high rate towards the plume of smoke. He had grabbed hold of one of his Scout fighters that was still in the area on its way to investigate the explosion as well.

The pilot of the nimble craft brought the vessel down to the hole in the side of the building, three stories up from the ground. From the wing of the Scout, Zeladar could see the charred remains of several zerglings, two hydralisks, and the two Terran soldiers who had apparently taken the creatures with them into the afterlife. A moment later, Zeladar was standing in the middle of the room, between a blackened, yet solid looking door and the corpses.

The floor had been weakened not by the blast but by two holes that appeared to have been made by the hydralisks, and as Zeladar moved towards the blackened door, the floor groaned ominously. He could see through a window that beyond the door, two men lay alive but unconscious, one appearing to be a soldier, the other a civilian. Seeing no way into the room and sensing more Zerg moving about in the building, Zeladar choose to move on, leaving the two men inside.

Using the holes in the floor made by the hydralisks, Zeladar dropped down to the floor below, his warp blade lit and ready, senses on high alert for any Zerg as he moved on. He found no Zerg on that floor, or on the next one, but he did find many dead Terran civilians, victims of the ravenous Zerg attack. The sounds of Terran weapon fire coming from several floors below drew Zeladar’s attention, and moving quickly, he followed the sounds towards their source.

Chief Engineer Van

"Hmmmmm..." Van mused as he strolled along the corridor where the injured defenders lay.

As he stopped beside an unconscious man, Van reviewed the results of the man's injuries.

"Lets see... nothing much wrong with this man... he could be just the one..." Van muttered as he motioned for the doctor to approach him.

"Doc... I'm taking this guy with me to the surgery room." Van informed the doctor.

"Alright, Chief. But I hope you know what your doing." the doctor informed him as he checked the patient off his list.

"Don't worry... he'll be perfectly alright within an hour... give or take a few minutes." Van told him cheerfully, as he accompanied the orderly in charge of the patient to the surgery room, "By the way, what's the patient's name?"

"Kevin James" the orderly informed him.

As the three reached the surgery room, Van himself placed the patient in front of a machine that he built.

"Alright, this guy should be feeling better in awhile." Van told the orderly as he started the machine

30 minutes later
The doctor entered the surgery room to check up on his patient.

"Was it a success?" The doctor asked Van.

"Well... it was a... 100% success! Alright! I rock!" Van cheered as he showed the doctor the current vital readings of the patient.

"Excellent... his physical injuries are all healed. This machine of yours will revolutionize medical history." The doctor told Van.

"No thanks... I prefer to keep it within Haven, if you know what I mean, doc. Well then, let's bring James here back to his room." Van said as he wheeled the patient back to his room, fully healed.

Gabriel Thorn

Gabe slowly comes to and finds the doctor standing next to his bed

"Kevin?"

Gabe blinks his eyes and notice that the light is a bit strong

"Yes doc?"

"Could you try to get up?"

Gabe frowns, this must be another dream. He tries to sit up and he does so without any pain or discomfort

"What on earth?"

The doctor just shake his head in amazement

"You can thank Chief Engineer Van for that"

Gabe looks incredulous at the doctor

"You mean I was used as a....guinea pig?"

"More a lab rat"

Gabe turns to look at the voice of the Chief Engineer

"Well it worked you know"

Gabe gets up and flexes his back and legs

"This is almost amazing, I can't believe this"

Both the Chief and doctor looks at Gabe, checking for any problems

"If I might hazard a guess, did you use nano tech?"

Chief Engineer Van

"Nano - tech? Of course not... we used the old fashion methods... laser surgery and lots and lots of alcohol on the wound." Van informed Kevin grinning mischievously, "Besides, we don't have the funds for that kind of tech."

Both the doctor and the engineer gave Kevin stern expressions on their faces before bursting out with laughter at Kevin's horrified expression.

"Hahahaha We had you going there for a second... Actually, we used the research references that Dr. Hanson had from before and worked around that. You wouldn't understand the technical terms anyway. Just wanted you to know that the marines are moving out to help out their captain, and I want you to represent the Militia." Van informed Kevin, motioning for his associate to enter the room.

As Van's associate entered the room, carrying a portable rail gun.

"You can use this, I fixed it up a bit and you should be able to fire without being pushed back." Van proudly stated.

"Well then, Kevin. Good luck... and don't forget your new combat armor. Sorry but you don't have the time for the combat marine armor. But the rail gun should even out any defects in your combat capability." the doctor informed him.

Gabriel Thorn

Gabe takes the weapon

"It looks more like a drill than a gun"

Van chuckles

"I told you I made a few modifications, your gear should be in the changing room I think"

The associate nods, Gave sticks out his hand

"Thanks Van, you truly are the man"

Van grins as they shake hands, then Gabe walks out of the room, wielding the big gun in one hand, after dressing and suiting up he heads out of the infirmary

"This is Kevin James reporting for duty"

"What? They let you out of the morgue already?"

Gabe chuckles, this guys sure knows how to treat one of their own...One of their own...Chin up soldier, you have a job to do

"Yes they did, said I stank up the place"

"Hahaha good good, we are mobilizing and en route to the Science Complex, need a lift?"

"I'll be at your location in one"

Gabe sets off running, holding the weapon at guns-port across his chest. Arriving at the mobilized militia, he gets on the transport and gets greeted by the militiamen with slaps on the back and huge grins.

"Well ladies let's get rolling, I think we need to go bail out a few more marines"

There is a few chuckles as the transport lurches forward and then accelerates

"Glad you're back James, I'm growing tired of leading this bunch, tag you're it"

Gabe just grins

"Thanks hey, with friends like you who needs enemies"

There is a few jeers and laughter

"What's our ETA?"

"20 minutes"

Michael Forrester

HAVEN, NEW HAVEN - SCIENCE COMPLEX
As the lights within the generator room flickered brightly, Michael was aghast to find that the room was filled with zerg.

“Damn it… so close…” Michael cursed briefly when the zerg closest to them became aware of their presence.

“Captain… what should we do now?” the marine beside Michael asked him, as the zerg screamed in defiance before charging at them.

“Fall back!” Michael shouted as he raised his rifle and started firing at the charging zergling. The slugs tore through the zergling’s body killing it instantly. As the zergling’s corpse fell down on the ground, the other zerg charged past it as they made their way towards the marines.

Firing at the charging zerg, Michael and his men inched their way back towards the corridor. Once they were through, Michael slammed his fist at the door panel so that it would close. As the marines lay down covering fire as the door slowly started to close, three guardian sentinels happened to pass by and immediately went inside the generator room to fight the zerg. Michael watched as the guardian sentinels proceeded to lay waste to the zerg before the door finally closed.

“That was close.” Michael said as he reloaded his rifle.

“Yeah, lucky those robots arrived when they did, captain. But what now?” the marine asked Michael.

“First thing we’re going to do is…” Michael started to say when the door suddenly shuddered.

“No way…” the marine gasped out in shock as the door continued to shudder violently.

“Captain… I think we should get out of here.” The other marine stated, moving in front of the door as he raised his rifle at the door, “Now, captain. I don’t like this.”

“Me neither, let’s fall back to the turrets just in case…” Michael’s began when the door was suddenly blasted forward, crushing the marine in front of it against the wall.

“Crap!!! Let’s get out of here!” the marine nearby screamed running away, as a horde of zerg rushed into the corridor.

“Hey! Wait for me!” Michael shouted as he ran after the marine, taking the time to remove a grenade from his belt and lobbing it behind him, “God, I hope some of them dies” Michael prayed as the grenade exploded behind him amidst the shrieks of the zerg chasing him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michael ran as fast as he could away from the zerg who were slowly gaining on him. Grabbing his rifle with his right hand, Michael fire blindly at his back trying to slow down the zerg. Finally, as Michael was beginning to tire, he came across a branching corridor lined with turrets.
“Finally” Michael thought as he veered towards the corridor. As he rushed past the turrets, the turrets immediately sighted the zerg behind him and started firing at them. Having gotten past the turrets, Michael turned around, unslung his rifle and started firing at them as well.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The marine managed to reach the stairs.

“I’m sorry captain…” the marine whispered as he stopped to rest in front of the stairs, unaware that the turrets placed at either side of the turrets were mangled.

“Captain… I’ll be back with men to save you.” The marine vowed as he started to climb up. Just as his feet touched the first step, a giant gold–colored Hydralisk suddenly appeared from the ground in front of him. As the marine tried to bring his rifle up, with one swipe of it’s claw at the marine’s waist, the G-Hydralisk disemboweled the marine. As the marine’s torso fell down on the floor, the G-Hydralisk let loose a loud shriek of triumph. Suddenly it glanced at the landing above him, gave a brief shriek of defiance before burrowing down the floor.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michael lay down on the floor, his rifle completely empty.
“That was close…” Michael muttered as he stared at the carnage within the corridor as countless zerg bodies surrounded the turrets and the entire corridor was covered with blood.
Bracing himself against the wall, Michael stood up and started his way out of the bloody corridor.
“Hope he made it.” Michael thought as he dropped his rifle and unholstered his modified handgun as well as releasing the blade within his gauntlet.
“This sucks… Here I am in an infested building and all I have is my handgun and my blade” Michael muttered as he made his way to the generator room, wary of any movement.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

As Michael’s made his way towards the generator room, he was unaware that whenever he passed by a camera, it monitored his every movement until after he was out of view.

Someone watching the monitor screens grinned as the marine finally reached the generator room.

“You’d better hurry, Captain”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As Michael passed by the battered door, he knelt beside the marine crushed by the door.
“I’m sorry… Don’t worry… you won’t be forgotten.” Michael murmured softly as he freed the corpse from the door.
Noticing the nearby rifle, Michael approached it warily. Just as Michael was about to grab the rifle, two Hydralisk’s dove out of the ground beside Michael. Reacting purely on instinct, Michael jammed his pistol on the Hydralisk’s open jaws to his left, firing a dozen rounds into it’s brain and gutted the right Hydralisk from it’s stomach to it’s mouth with the gauntlet blade.
As both Hydralisk’s fell to the ground, dead, Michael grabbed the rifle on the floor with his right hand.
“That was close… at least I now have a rifle… what the…” Michael started when he heard something unsettling.
Glancing at the floor, Michael realized that the floor he was standing on was giving way. Just as he was about to move away, the floor crumbled below him. As Michael’s tried to grab ahold of something, he released both the rifle and his handgun, but to no avail as he plummeted down the hole.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Michael’s suddenly woke up in the dark.

“Where am I?” Michael asked himself, before checking on the PDA to realize that he dropped right down to the third basement level.

Activating the built–in flashlight on the helmet, Michael gazed at the roof and when he became aware of another source of light approaching him from behind.

Instinctively Michael turned around abruptly and raised the hand carrying his handgun when he realized that he dropped his handgun. Michael was further amazed to find to find Dr. Hanson approaching him.

“Governor… What are you doing here? We aren’t safe here…” Michael started to say when Dr. Hanson quieted him.

“Captain, it’s good that I finally found you. Your lucky that the fall didn’t damage anything major. I take it your wearing the customized armor that Van built?” Dr. Hanson asked.

“Yes, but what happened here? And how long have I been out?” Michael asked Dr. Hanson.

“We shouldn’t be talking here but to answer your question, I estimate you’ve been out for 15 minutes more or less. As to the blackout, I imagine that your activation of the defense system caused the eventual blackout when the reserve powers where finally depleted. I hope you’re not the only one who came to rescue us, captain.” Dr. Hanson chided him gently.

“Huh? Oh don’t worry about that Governor, I already radioed for backup awhile back. They should be here any minute now.” Michael assured her.

“Good… we’ll then. Let’s get back to the others, shall we.” Dr. Hanson said before leading the way across the darkened corridor.

“Alright, wait up.” Michael replied as he followed Dr. Hanson.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the pair traversed through the darkened corridors which were pierced by the flashlights they both carried, Michael became aware that unlike the other floors of the building, this floor was almost devoid of any signs of death. They stopped outside a large sealed door.
“Hmmm this might pose a problem for us. This door leads to a secured chamber where the others are staying; unfortunately this will only open if there is power. Unfortunately…” Dr. Hanson started to say when the lights flickered on.
“I guess this means the cavalry has arrived, governor.” Michael stated, relieved to be out of any imminent danger.
“Yes, I guess so, captain. Now let’s just get out of this stuffy corridor.” Dr. Hanson told him, as she accessed the terminal on the door.
As the sealed door slowly opened, “So what happened here, governor?” Michael asked.
“It’s quite simple… Oh my god!” Dr. Hanson started to say when she briefly glanced inside the room and discovered it to be covered with blood.
“What is it… what the hell?!” Michael gasped out loud as the door fully opened to reveal a giant gold – colored Hydralisk.
“What the hell is that?!” Michael asked the governor, as he unsheathed the blade within his gauntlet, wary of any movement the giant zerg will do.
“He released it?! We’re all dead, captain!” Dr. Hanson stated as she began to pull back, frightened by the monstrosity.
Suddenly the intercom sounded, “I hope you like my surprise, Dr. Hanson. You should never have pulled me out of the project. Now my pet will kill you and all those who oppose me. Bwahahahahahahaha What the… who are you?! What are you doing… aaaaaiiieeeeeeeee…”
“Who the hell is that…” Michael began to say when the giant zerg suddenly charged at him.
Gabriel Thorn
The transport pulled to a stop at the science complex
"All right men, dismount"
The militia quickly got out of the transport and Gabe followed, he surveyed the science complex and whistled, zergling bodies were strewn everywhere, he hefted his rail gun and made sure it was primed and ready
"OK listen up! Somewhere in there is Captain Forrester and Lieutenant Johnson is in there with marines. We are going to stick together and sweep this building, if you see a zerg and it moves, shoot it, if it looks human, but can't identify itself shoot it, if you can't see it and it moves, that means there is a draft, don't shoot it you'll just waste ammo"
This draws a few nervous chuckles
"OK men, let's saddle up and stay frosty"
Gabe enters the front doors and is followed by the militia, their weapons sweeping everywhere, the reach the stairwell and quickly proceed to the top of the building. Beginning at the top of the complex they start to make their way slowly downwards, making sure that no zerg is alive. On the ground floor Gabe decides to scan the Western level first and then the Eastern level before heading to the lower levels. In the Western level they find the bodies of the dead Marines in the reactor room, but no sign of the zerg that killed them
"I don't like this one little bit"
Gabe nodded
"Neither do I, think we can get that reactor operational again?"
Two of the militia quickly starts going through the screens and then reports back
"Sir there is a breaker that we will have to kill in the Eastern level, there is a major short circuit on that level, then we should be able to get her fired up again"
Gabe nodded and headed for the door
"OK men, let's get going, I want power restored to this facility before we head into the lower levels"
Gabe noticed that one of the Marines' suits didn't seem damaged, he knelt down next to the Marine and rolled him over, the faceplate was destroyed. This is interesting, why did these zerg and also that huge creature know where the soft spots were in the armors? Rolling the Marine back onto his face Gabe leads the way out of the room
(First off, a curse the day wireless internet failure was invented. My system blew out and I haven't had a connection in nearly a week. *Sigh*)
It was a peaceful morning in the mining encampment. Only two days ago, the transports had arrived to carry in supplies from off-world and pick up their weekly haul, so the intial binge drinking had worn out, and the miners where fixing themselves into their machines before a hard day of work. Still, for security if nothing else, the sensor arrays still had to be monitered, much to the delight of the operatiors. Nothing much happened over the channels, that is, until today.
"Captain," one of the voices went over the primative radieo between stations. "We've got a light Terrian vessel inbound, lightly armed, uncloaked."
The Captain, a rugged formor miner in his late 50's grunted out of his nap. Damit, coulden't those offworlders just leave him alone? Then he remembered... the message from Him. Could it be these people where the ones he had contacted. "Let them through," he mumbled back. "HE needs to see them."
A message was patched through the radieo channels, up into the approching craft. "This is Mining Base Y-9274611, requesting ID for permission to land"
"This is Mining Base Y-9274611, requesting ID for permission to land"
Donovan frowned, he already gave that
"Alpha Zulu Sierra ten since when did you change your call sign? This is X-Ray Whiskey seven, I'm carrying supplies, your order number Yankee Yankee eight three seven dash four six eight, over"
Donovan rubbed his jaw, normally the Mining bases wasn't this strict on protocol, also last time he was here they didn't check into his ship this badly. He sighed and leaned back into the seat, well let them waste time, because time is something he's got loads of.
"Negative, we just had a supply drop two days ago," the voice over the radieo came. "And we use Dominion Standerd, not that independent spacer jargan." He sighed audably. "Despite that, I'm under orders to give you clearence to land, report to docking strip 7,X-Ray Whiskey seven, if you would be so kind."
"Base Alpha Zulu Sierra, I am using Dominion Standard. What did you guys do, go backwards?"
Donovan gritted his teeth
"Just hold on a minute Mining Base, let me confirm your order number with Base"
Donovan switched on another channel and flipped a switch to patch the two channels together.
"Base this is X-Ray Whiskey seven come in"
"X-Ray Whiskey seven this is Base over"
"Base Alpha Zulu Sierra ten states that they received a shipment two days ago. I have Order number Yankee Yankee eight three seven dash four six eight, over"
"Hold on X-Ray.......computer states that Yankee Yankee eight three seven dash four six eight, was ordered three days ago. There is no records of Base Alpha Zulu Sierra ten receiving any other Dominion freight since their last delivery 30 Standard days ago, over"
"Thank you Base, X-Ray over and out"
Dovovan switched off the patch
"As you heard base, I am here on official business, I don't care what you smoke, but don't drink the bathwater, it's really messing up your mind"
Dovovan chuckled at his own joke
"Can I get the coordinates to docking strip 7? This mother needs to bump down somewhere, but she have no idea where to go"
" I have yet to hear Whisky getting a legal standing in our Standard," he mumbled off the mike. "Coordinates are grid spaces T8 and T9 on the basic grid. You do know where that is, correct?" He asked the last with a ting of annoyance. "We did recive our shipmants, however, so you're going to have to talk to the stockboys before you unload anything. Set your wepons on stun and set down."
Dovan typed the coordinates into the computer and felt the ship lurching forward
"Thanks Mining Base, just don't overwork yourself, X-Ray over and out"
Donovan cut the link and set his weapons to stun, then he sat back and watched the base drawing closer, at the edge of his vision he could see something strange, but didn't know what it was. He just shrugged it off and waited for the ship to land. After landing he switched off the engines, unbuckled himself from the seat and grabbed his Order Computer, flipping a switch to open the storage compartment's doors, he walked out of the cockpit.
"Same for you," the radio wound down quickly. This guy had some serious problems.
"Send in the escourt squad," the new message went onto the blockhouse frequencey. "THe probers have landed."
When Dovan imerged from his ship, he met with a dozen tough looking armored brutes, each equipt with a militery surpulse Gazater Rifle. "Come with us sir," one inditifably spoke. "We have somebody who'd like to see you."
Donovan eyed the thugish looking men and raised an eyebrow.
"Listen guys I am not here to eat your crap OK?"
Donovan toed a crate
"This is section is your delivery, so either put down those guns and start offloading or get a crew to do it, I'm on a tight schedule here"
The brutes just looked at him and the leader cocked his rifle and leveled it at Donovan with an evil grin
"Please sir we would really appreciate for you to come with us, we are under direct orders for you to come with us"
Donovan sighed and slammed the sturdy little Order Computer onto the crate and stomped out.
"First your control tower acts like an ass high on some sort of drugs, now you bunch on knuckleheads are here, threatening me with guns. You can be certain that Control will hear about this"
His words was met with stony silence as the men closed around him and started marching him away. Donovan looked over his shoulder at the cargo
"And you god damn will answer to me if anything but your cargo has been removed from my ship"
(OCC- Please don't godmod my characters, it is rather annoying. But, to make things fair, I get to do it in one post too.)
"We aren't intrested in whatever you're carrying, we just got our deliverey two days ago," two of the guerds moved to flank him, cutting off his route of escape. "I assume as the captian, you have an inventory. Feel free to bring any complants to Base command after your check things over. We just have somebody, off base he needs to have a word with you. Now, move it."
Leading him along, the troops took him out of the main compound, past the chain-links fences, out of the range of the beating drills and hammers in the mines. It was an errie silence, on the ball of rock. A lifeless silence, broken only by the sounds of their feet and the occasional sniffel.
Then, the came upon the Zerg lands, and small signs of life started to be noticed. Vauge hints of the Creep, the occasional zergling, later on visable spawning pools and insect gardens. The troops marched, unfazed, past it all, holding their charge's arms so he could nto get away.
Finnaly, they came to a hole in the ground, where a pair of Ultrlisk's emerged, towering over them. A few of the troops felt their trigger finger twitch, but kept themselves from firing. "Your requester is down there, in the center. He's not particularly happy about what you did. Go on, " they prodded his back with the butts of their rifles. "Go in"
