Starship Troopers OOC (also a casting call kind of)

I think that is one way of looking at it. After the attack there will be wounded and we will need to get some working radios to take along to the base so yeah we will be at the LS for some time

Encounter-less trek to the base sounds good.

But I have to ask:

I watched Marauder last night. Surprisingly I enjoyed it a hell of a lot. I think they used the fact people thought 2 was crap to keep that Starship Troopers comedy and acting, but I enjoyed the storyline and writing of this one much more.

What did you make of the Singing Psychic Sky Marshal? :D

Hilarious!

I must admit, the religion aspect made me laugh a lot. But I guess that's what it was meant to do. I hope.

At the end of it I was like, "So they only just figured out Religion is a great way of controlling the masses? No wonder the bugs are kicking their ass."

It was funny. And the last scene with the praying women and the Maurader apocalyptic fires was cool.

It's a good day to die...nah it's not as catchy as: "Come on you apes, you wanna live forever? "

I might be quiet for a little while, folks. My wife and I live in the threat area of Tropical Cyclone Yasi and the latest forecast has her headed straight for us. We're gonna be a bit busy with battening down the hatches.

Good luck Fel and if we do move from the LS, I will just assume that you move along with the group until you can post again

And I'm back! Power came on a few hours ago, and it took my wife suggesting we reset the modem to actually get us back online. I'll catch up with the main thread as soon as I can but Internet access is crap right now.

Welcome back Fel, good to see you online again. We are basically still killing a planet full of bugs, so we are where you left us :)

Thanks folks! You betcha - just as long as my 'Net connection lets me load the threads properly. I've had to hit "Reload" heaps of times just so I could read and reply to this one.

How is everything where you live Fel? They are saying Yasi wasn't as bad because you all prepared well. And that no deaths were reported. I think you Queenslanders are getting used to these things.

We came through pretty well, Dormant. I'm not a long-time tropical northerner, so I can't really speak for everyone, but as much as preparedness and experience factor (and they certaily do), it's just sheer blind luck that Yasi didn't smash into Cairns. Heck, there was a point sometime around Monday when the BoM forecast track map had plotted Yasi's path as directly toward us, and I was thinking, if she hits here, we may well be entirely screwed.

I think most of what got Cairns was wind. I don't know whether the storm surge they were predicting eventuated, but it certainly didn't look like it on Friday morning. In fact, aside from the sandbags, taped up windows and the odd destroyed awning, Cairns looked like it had hosted a regular tropical storm the night before.

We did wind up with one death, though - a young fellow down in Port Hinchinbrook set his generator up in the same room he was staying in and died of asphyxiation.

Yeah, I forgot about him. Sad news to hear that. I'm surprised people don't know more about that danger.

Everything seems to have quietened down on the IC thread. Is everyone okay?

Stitch and Lester still have to fall back and Talon gots to lay the smaketh down on the bugs with the nuke. I see Leo went quiet in the thread and our eagle eye is still killing bugs, so she doesn't really need to fall back due to her position.

Just waiting for the fall back and nuke before I can post and everything is kinda ok on my side, thanks for asking

I'll post now saying we've fallen back to merge with the sniper, which is higher ground enough for me to get a angle on the bug warren entrance.

There's still place for another unfortunate trooper? Interested as well!

I'll agilise things here:

Name: Roderigo 'Bowling Ball' Delmonte
Height: 1.78 m
Weight: 78 kg
Eye color: battleship grey
Hair color and style: No hair whatsoever. Roderigo shaves all of his facial hair except for a groomed mustache, tanned.
Body build: Muscular, lithe physique, broad chest and shoulders, thick arms.
Speciality: Heavy Short-ranged Weapons Speciallist - elected to test plasma-based weaponry, which so far proved to be very powerful in close-range - but also very unstable, due to weapon overheating when in constant use.
Short Bio/Long Bio: Roderigo was 'inducted' into service after a heated-discussion with a miner colonist that called him 'bald'. Roderigo is actually 'bald', but takes offense easily and turns out to react violently. But he is usually easygoing and a well-liked friend by his squadmates. Become cold after losing his late sergeant due to a late shot from his prototype plasmagun.

Well where would you like to hop in? Be part of the base? Or come down with the Marauder support?

I'm thinking on another drop pod that happened to mishap during planetfall. Crash killed some, bugs killed the few others, and now "Bowling Ball" is running towards the shootout noises.

Coming alone and bloody, how'bout that?

That can only work if you're on a covert mission and not controlled by a brain bug.
