"uh still" Jase said shaking his head before a faint smirk tugged on his face

"I did thats when we first met" Jase said shaking his head and laughing "we had met on a dusty planet she with her team and I with the map I got there first and stole it then noticed her team fly in I took out the pilot and gaurd and hacked the turret so it would cover me as I made my escape the last thing I heard was her yelling at me"

"Ha!" Ashlyn laughed at the story, "That would have sent most guys running. A woman already telling at them even before a relationship? You're brave! How did you gst together then?"

"we met again on a space station run by a pirate queen" Jase said getting the sense she had already heard this story from Vera but trying not to let it bug him "she busted me trying to learn about the map I am sure she had every intention of killing me however we were interupted by a small little coup she would have died but I jumped in saved her even lost the map for a while I couldnt let her die even then I felt drawn to her hell I think I was even in love with her right then and there"

Ashlyn nodded as he spoke, the two sides of the story matching up perfectly. Though, she found it interesting that for Crestfield it was almost love at first sight.

"So now ee know about the past, what about the future General?" She asked, knowing that anything else he said about their time together would match Starborn's story. "You've swept he most eligible bacheloress in the galaxy off her feet. Any plans to make an honest woman of her? Are there wedding bells in the near future?"

"Marriage?" Jase said snorting and shaking his head "We are an entire galaxy at war! As much as I would love to it seems like the wrong time"

"Of course I hope to one day" He said sighing and leaning back "When this is all over and we have won to get married and settle down one could only hope right?"

Ashlyn's eyes widened at Crestfields confession and she latched onto his words.

"An entire galaxy at war is the perfect reason to get married General!" Ashlyn declared enthusiastically. "We're going tk win, of that I have no doubt, but what if something happens? Neither of you should live your lives in regret of the fact that you didn't get married when you had the chance. And sheish- you gotta do things in order if you know what I mean," Ashlyn then made a motion with her hand over her belly and a suggestive wink. "I can't even begin to imagine the relationship sacrifices you and the Chancellor are making becaus of the war. Take a little back for yourself! The universe would swoon fir it all"

Jase noted her hand on her belly and shot her a look "I think you may be onto some thing there" Jase said sighing "but what with the preparations for our new JOINT military task force with the species council we have barely had the time!" He said playing it up a little.

"Maybe we should go out to the frontline together as husband and wife? Spearheading the attack force together joined as one" Jase said watching her and raising an eyebrow.

"You can hardly expect the universe to commit to follow you both, if you aren't completely committed to each other first," Ashlyn probed, eagerly prodding him along. "Surely with all of the resources at your disposal you could come up with something. It doesn't have to be flash, you just deserve the chance to make your love known. Just like anyone!"

Ashlyn could imagine it now- the wedding of the milennia. The handsome star smuggler turned General and his beautiful, strong Chancellor wife (ripe with child as well). The masses would have a field day. Oh, what she could do with such a story.

"Your right" Jase said playing along even though he sent her an eye roll "I see no reason not and since the ship is in dry dock...." He said trailing off and letting it pause dramatically.

"Of course the question is.... Do you think she will say yes?" He asked pretending to say it in a hushed whisper.

Score! This was just what Ashlyn needed.

"Oh General," she said, shaking her head and laughing, "there is only one way to find out!"

Ashlyn pulled up a schedule on her wrist watch.

"You have both been invited to appear on a talk show tonight. I declined it because I know you re both busy, but there is still time for me to change it..."

Jase starred at her his eyes wide. What the hell was she doing! That would mean going on air in a few hours and asking her to marry him even though they hadnt even spoken about it. How in the hell was he even going to find a ring.....

Yet now it had been said

"Set us up for it" He said trying to sound more brave then shitting nervous bricks "Im going to do it im going to ask the empress to marry me for the world to see!"

"How romantic," Ashlyn purred with absolute delight. She grinned at the General- his lack of suspicion towards her had been so much easier to work with than the Chancellors damn constant assessment.

Ashlyn made a show of stopping the recording on her wrist watch.

"So General, will the Chancellor have to watch her back from here on? How many jilted ex-lovers will want a piece of her now that the universe is going to see your proposal?"

Jase glared at her eyeing the wrist watch

"Uh huh and some how I doubt that thing is really off" Jase said getting up and crossing his arms "do you realize what you just did? Now tonight on top of every thing else going on I have to go track down a ring and get ready to propose to Vera on galaxy wide TV and while I very much doubt she will say no we havent even talked about it!"

Ashlyn looked up at the General. So, his claws finally came out.

"Women love surprises," Ashlyn got to her feet and smoothed her dress, making sure to run her hands over all of her curves. "Nervous, General?"

Ashlyn walked out of the room, heels clicking on the smooth floor noisily.

"I'll have a shuttle waiting for you both at 5 PM sharp." She called out just before she turned the corner.

"Mother" He said growling and shaking his head "frak!"

"Well you did well " Samantha said her voice sarcastic as she appeared next to him.

"You could have warned me!" He said turning to her and hissing

"And miss all that!" Samantha said laughing "no way! I like her"

"Shes a snake" He said to her shaking his head and stepping out "now you going to help me or not?"

"Well I was hoping to give them to you with some ceremony but...." samantha said sighing "your moms wedding rings there in the Falcon"

"WHAT?!" Jase yelled causing several people to jump

"In a lockbox that your mother said you were to open when you were ready" Samantha said as he began to jog the Falcon "and so now seems as good a time as any"

"Babe did you hear" Jase thought as he huried down to the falcon "about the talk show?"

Vera heard Jase's voice in her head and she stopped reading through the progress report on the Coalition election.

"Hmm? No, sorry, I was busy with the reports. Are we doing a talk show? When?"

She had already told Ashlyn that they didn't have time for a talk show, but Vera wasn't surprised that the little vixen had managed to get them into it anyway. She sighed, almost ready to kiss goodbye to the long evening of love making that she had planned with Jase.

"Yeah turns out I underestimated her" Jase said stepping on to the Falcon and closing the door behind him "I will meet you at the shuttle I guess were leaving with her around five PM which means we only have an hour" He told her sending her a mental I love you before he turned to Samantha.

"Come on" She said taking his hand and leading him down to the engine room. There hidden in the crawl space was a simple black box that blended in with the pipes. Jase and Samantha both carried to back into the living space sitting it down.

"Here let me" Samantha said nodding at Jase to sit. She waved her hand and the electronic lock beeped unsealing the small black box. Jase ran his hands over it nervous energy causing his heart to beat erratically. It had been a long time since he had any thing new of his parents. He had tried to go back to their home after he left Korlift but their stuff was already scattered to the winds. He had managed to track some of it down over the years but not as much as he would have liked.

Yet this was left for him

He reached over finally grasping hte box and opening it. Inside was the ring box laying on top of a picture of his parents on their wedding day. He starred at it for a long second his eyes welling up before he finally turned to see if there was any thing written on the back.

There was

"I'll meet you at the dock," Vera sighed, sitting back and rubbing her eyes. She got to her feet rather reluctantly, then went to the kitchen and rustled up some left overs to eat before she went. Her stomach was already heaving, her nausea rising. It was going to be a long night. Her hand went to the her swelling belly amd she smiled despite feeling sick. It would all be worth it. She just had to think of the end goal.

~*~

True to her word, Vera arrived at the dock. She had pulled on one of her nice, yet sensible gowns that skimmed over her body, yet the red fabric was full enough around her hips that her bump wasn't obvious. She smiled at Jase, making her way over to him as the crew did the final preps on the shuttle that would take them to the broadcasting station in the surface of Laverne.

"So, did Ashlyn give you a brief on what to expect on this show?" Vera asked as she gave Jase a chaste kiss on the cheek.

"Uh no" Jase said returning her chaste kiss and ignoring the men both smiling at them. He threaded their fingers together and sighed glancing over at her one more time.

"I think you should be prepared for any thing though" Jase said leading her to the shuttle "Knowing her at least" He said helping her on and following after her. The shuttle was one of the luxury classes and so Jase slid onto the couch and brought her into his lap.

"I missed you today" He said leaning in to kiss her deeply.

Vera gave Jase a thankful smile as she settles onto the couch in the pod. His kiss got her heart racing and made her cheeks flush. She leaned into him, her body pressing up against his. She relished the contact.

"I missed you too," she said when she pulled away. "I miss our time on the falcon... Just you, me and a whole lot of sex and snuggles..." Vera sighed, leaning back and resting her head on his chest. Before she had gone to the shuttle she had ordered a special dinner for them, so that Jase wouldn't need to cook when they returned. She had sent the request to the chef personally, so she knew it would be better than the usual ship fare.

Vera looked up at Jade and frowned, he looked off.

"Are you okay Jase?" She asked, sitting up properly. She frowned, knowing that neither of them were the type to get sick easily due to their enhancements. She pressed a concerned koss against uis cheek.

He groaned his fingers slipping up and down her body rubbing caressing and keeping her tight. He felt her snuggle into his chest and sighed leaning his head back and breathing her scent in with his nose. The ship they were on lurched and then began to move gliding smoothly out of the launch bay and down to the planet below. He was so wrapped up in her and relaxing that he almost missed her words.

"Oh im fine" he said chuckling nervously feeling the weight of the rings in his suit pocket.

"I am just nervous to be on camera" he said softly looking down at her and giving a weak smile as they sped down to the planet "I cant believe Ashyln tricked me into getting involved with this!" He murmured shaking his head and burying his nose in her hair once more.

"Told you she was a snake!" Vera laughed, turning and giving him a kiss, pouring all of her reassurance and warmth into it.

She couldn't remember her first broadcast appearance. She'd been doing this sort of stuff her whole life. She could understand why he was nervous though. She squeezed his hand as their shuttle descended to the planet.

Twenty minutes later Vera and Jase got out of the PEACe shuttle and stepped directly into the channel's private hangar. Ashlyn was there, beaming as she greeted them, a mischevious glint in her eye.

"You know, Miss Greyjoy, the best PR staff I have had have always forwarded me the questions for the show at least a day before," Vera said, her annoyance clear in her voice.

"Yes, well, this was unexpected for all of us," Ashlyn said with a dismissive wave of her hand. Somehow, Vera highly doubted that.

One of the station executives bustled over with a datapad in his arm. He was just about to introduce himself to Vera and Jase before Ashlyn stepped in his path, taking his hand and shaking it before he knew what had happened.

"Hi, Ashlyn Greyjoy, private PR consultant for the General and Chancellor. Sorry about the late notice, we can just never be too careful, with security being what it is these days and all."

The man introduced himself as Jack McKenzie, personal assistant to the show host Tina Barker. He soon had Ashlyn under control and ushered Jase and Vera towards hair and make up. He was satisfied with what they were wearing. It wasn't PEACe branded, he said, but that was good. Tina was hoping to get something a bit more candid from them anyway.

Within ten minutes Vera and Jase were seated on a two-person sofa opposite of Tina Barker. Vera had met the woman a number of times, and they exchanged pleasantries as the lights and sound departments went through their final checks.

"Live in five, four, three," The stage manager counted of the last two number silently and then Tina sprung into action.

"Good evening everyone, I'm your host Tina Barker, welcome to Universal Live! Tonight I am thrilled to announce that we have not one, but two special guests joining us. Not only are they impressive in their own right, but together they have taken on one of the most harrowing tasks yet to face our universe. None other than General Jase Crestfield and Chancellor Vera Starborn!"

Tina turned to face them with a smile that was almost brighter than the glaring lights.

"Now, welcome back Chancellor, it is always nice to see you. And General- this is your first time on my show! Welcome, welcome," Tina leaned forward in her seat, eyeing Vera and Jase eagerly. "Now I have no doubt how busy you both must be. Tell me, how did you manage to find time to forge and maintain your brilliant love affair, let alone come on this show?"

Tina turned straight to Jase and Vera felt a pang of sympathy for him. He was the new, mysterious person that the universe was curious about. She sent him a reassuring tug down their mental communication line.

Jase knew it before she even turned and gave him his question. He was the new guy and he had no doubt Ashlyn had given the woman a hot tip of what was going to do down tonight. He sighed mentally preparing himself as best he could as he cleared his throat and leaned forward.

"well we were in the nieghborhood" he said waving up at the space above them. It earned a laugh from the audience and he sighed before continuing on.

"And we were happy to be here we cant do this without every one else involved so were spreading the word as much as we can about how every one can assist in the war effort and do their part its important to us that every one knows that we need them that we cant do this without them" He said turning to nod at the audience before looking back at Vera. He took her hand bringing it up and kissing it and looking into her eyes.

"As for our love affair" He said leaning forward touching their foreheads together lightly "when it burns as bright as ours then even with all thats going on you find a way"

Jase said exactly what he needed too, as usual, and even won the crowd over with a joke. He was charming, of that Vera had no doubt. When he turned to her and kissed her hand she blushed, so unusued to such public displays of affection. He then leaned closer again, his forehead pressing against hers, his breath hot on her lips as he spoke. She tried to ignore the lights, the crowd. She tried to ignore the hungry look in Tina's eyes and the way that Ashlyn was practically bouncing on her toes on the sidelines.

"Yes," Vera said, rather breathlessly. "Sometimes you just have to make things work." She said, giving him a gentle kiss on the lips before drawing back slightly, not breaking eye contact with him. It was her natural reaction, her true desire to be alone with him, she decided that it was also what every one needed to see, so she threw propriety to the wind, keeping his hand tight in hers as she smiled at him.

"And I know all of us are pleased to see you two going so strong in the face of every thing going on" Tina said nodding her head solemnly before gesturing at the cameras "I know all of us have seen the footage of the attack all of us have reeled as the enemy has made it self known to us I have no doubt that every one is wanting to do there part"

"Of course were here tonight to talk about happier things" She said nodding at them both "Empress you and Jase have both been busy securing alliances and getting every thing ready I hope your...... love life has not suffered to much" Tina said as there where some whoops from the audience.
