State Abortion Amendment Results

I don't think so. How would they? If the propositions did well, as they did, then it suggests that they drove more abortion supporters out to vote than their opponents. The three states in which the measures were defeated were states in which Trump was guaranteed to win, regardless.

In some ways I think this result helps Trump, because it indicates that democratic processes at the state level can protect abortion rights, and I think Trump is much more interested in just not having to deal with the abortion issue at the federal level than trying to ban it. If Montana, Nevada, and Missouri passed laws to protect the abortion right, then it suggests that even in Republican states there's little interest in restricting it further, and there's nothing to be gained by pushing for a federal anti-abortion law.
I thought Harris lost. :)

We’re a republic which consists of 50 unitary states not a central form of democracy under a central government where mob rules.
Republican government does not mean decentralized government. There is no connection between the two, none at all.

France has a unitary system of government. Germany has a federal system. France is just as good a republic.

Correct...the word republic is used. And a republic is a form of democracy.

Maybe they could add an appendix to define words
A highly refined, decentralized, and disciplined democracy. The founders objected to the notion of three wolves and a sheep deciding what's for lunch.

Democracy is not three wolves and a sheep deciding on lunch. Democracy is three sheep and a wolf deciding on lunch -- because the sheep outnumber the wolves. Numbers and democracy are the only defenses they have.

Speaking of decentralization, I'd like to see some of these federal agencies moved out of DC and closer to the American people they serve.;)
They all have offices in every state already. In your local federal building or federal courthouse. Or military base.

You seem to need to qualify how it's a democracy.

It's a democracy.

The founders had no issue just admitting that it is..because they knew that a republic is a form of democracy

Other way -- a democracy is a form of republic. There are democratic republics, and there are aristocratic republics (like the old Republic of Venice, where only the nobility of the Golden Book could vote).

State abortion amendments did well last night overall:

State Constitutional Right to Abortion PASSED
  1. Arizona (Passed 62-38%)
  2. Colorado (Passed 61-39)
  3. Maryland (Passed 74-26)
  4. Missouri (Passed 52-48) (!!!!)
  5. Montana (Passed 57-43)
  6. Nevada (Passed 63-37)
  7. New York (Passed 62-38)
State Constitutional Right to Abortion FAILED
  1. Florida (Got majority (57%) of votes, but failed to reach 60% threshold for constitutional amendment)
  2. Nebraska (Defeated 63-37%)
  3. South Dakota (Defeated 60-40%)
missed this thread and posted this https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/poli...p&cvid=383f838fb40548c688d420d43bd96e3a&ei=93 over in the other one :)

More to the point, Trump won, and I don't get the feeling Trump wants to spend any more political capital on the abortion issue.
He doesn't have to spend much if any political capital on abortion anymore.
He's got the US Supreme Court to do the dirty work for him.

The Supremes have essentially jettisoned the concept of "precedence" and "stare decisis" as a legal framework entirely, in favor of getting out a Ouija board and diving what the Founding Fathers "really meant" to justify their legal pretzel logic.

That may be your interpretation, but it's not mine. I'm not as cynical about the Supreme Court as that.

Roe v. Wade itself was not in any meaningful sense based on precedent or stare decisis. It was basically pulled out of thin air, and that's why until Dobbs it was criticized by so many legal scholars. Despite being personally pro-choice, I think the Supreme Court did the right thing in Dobbs in reversing Roe v. Wade and sending the abortion issue back to the states.

The Supreme Court is now done with the abortion issue, having turned it over to state legislatures. It has no "dirty work" to do for Donald Trump at this point.

Yes, it was a phantom penumbra only a liberal Justice could detect. ;)
