Statehood for Puerto Rico

The Puerto Ricans have voted yes to statehood in four referenda:

And nobody ever seems to state a good reason to say no to them. It's just something Congress never seems to get around to. This year, let's make it a midterm issue!

Now, of course, admitting PR is a different decision than admission of previous states. They were all admitted only after white Protestant English-speakers had become the majority -- or at least, as in Hawaii, clearly the dominant culture. That will never happen in PR, it will always be a Catholic Spanish-speaking island, part of the Latin American culture complex. So, making it a full state means, in some sense, redefining what it means to be American. It's a big step.

But, hey, if we ever want Cuba to be a state, we have to show it's possible.

I am a hardcore staunch supporter of making the US Commonwealth of Puerto Rico as the 51st State of the United States!

I am surprised that Donald Trump hasn't tried to take over Samoa to add to American Samoa. Damn sight more attractive than Greenland and the various islands particularly of the much larger independent Samoa would give the USA control of a huge chunk of the Pacific.
