Stephen King: These Tweets Will Kill You!

I used to love Stephen King, I read him growing up and thought of him as my favorite author. I think The Dark Tower series was brilliant and the high point of his career. It was a complete series and didn't need any of the extra books he wrote. I bought the one about the sisters and can't bring myself to read it.

I guess when your writing can't speak for itself anymore you take to Twitter to find a new voice. I can't remember the last book I bought and read from him, but I do remember Tom Gordon...such garbage. I hope tweeting helps him write a better book. I hate thinking of him as a has-been author.

You will not be able to put 11/22/63 down until you are finished.

p.s. The Hulu miniseries version is nowhere near as good as the book, so don't watch it first.

Calling someone an asshat isn't commenting on politics. It's an ad hominem attack, and a weak logical argument

Just cause you agree... doesn't change what he tweeted.

JayCuck, please link me to anywhere I have stated Trump as being an 'asshat'. I find words being put into my mouth, equally as inappropriate and offensive as personal attacks.

You need to understand Twitter is not a forum for logical argument nor was it ever meant. It is a space for a casual blurt. I put these Tweets up simply for light relief.

Places such as political forums are the areas where there is potential for logical argument, in theory. However if you review many of the posts in this Political thread section, you will find there is very little logical argument and a high degree of ad hominem response.

I look forward to reading your logical arguments here on the forum. I may even contribute in response, if I feel I have any contribution of value to offer.

Edit: Silly me, here I was thinking I was speaking with someone who was concerned with thoughtful and intelligent comment. Then I looked at her Twitter as linked by herself. I won't be making a separate thread on Lit, it belongs in another area, certainly not in Politics. *sighs Here is Jay's Twitter, just a collection re-Tweeted Erotic/porn/artphotos

Dear gods I wish I could argue with you on this, but you've summed it up.

Democratic Americans now need to focus on three things.

Fighting Trump, including using the filibuster and the nuclear option. (to non-Americans, that's a Senate debate phrase that involves no actual weapons)

Making sure the next Supreme is at least a smart, moderate conservative, and not a mouth-breathing, inbred idiot.

And most important of all, trying to take back the state houses before the next round of re-districting in 2020. This one is really the key.

It's "inside baseball" and too wonky and boring for most folk, but I tell you true, unless we Dems can turn a few "red states" blue, we lose again in four years.

We lost, we got spanked hard, we've gotta deal with it.

We can be "whiney little bitches", doing our protests and demands for recounts...

Or we can roll up our sleeves and get the fuck to work on the real shit to take our nation back.

Peace,
R

And the fourth thing, which is the key to the third: Downplay social liberalism, refocus on economic populism. There's no other way to win back the white working class. For a long time there, many of them were actually wavering between Trump and Sanders, hard as that is to believe. Sanders represents the way the party needs to go to win. As for the culture war, liberals have mostly won that already, and generational change will finish the job; Millennials are very socially liberal, they're less racist and more gay-friendly and more secular and have more atheists than older generations. But the economic libertarianism of the RW can still appeal to a lot of them, and that's the front we need to fight on.

You're both wrong. Stay the course! Democrats need to continue to trust in the wise leadership of Hillary and Nancy. They are the future. They care about us. The only reason they weren't more successful with their port city strategy was because of a conspiracy by the FBI, the Russians, and the misogynists of America. One of their staffers said so!

I started the thread, I put up the post, you said "just cause you agree" (Trump was an 'asshat'). I want to know on what basis you assumed I agreed with this statement of King's that (Trump) was an asshat.

Stephen King...tweeted Trump was an asshat. It's in one of the earlier posts.

And it is certainly possible to make an ass of oneself on Twitter, which Steven King does...On A regular basis.

Twitter really shows up who and what people are. I will agree with you there.

My posts never dealt with you or your comments on the Politics board. Paying attention is optional, but it's generally a good idea.
Yes your post did deal with my comments on the Politics board, see above regarding your assumption that I agreed (Trump) was an 'asshat'. Please remember what you wrote, it makes discussions flow better.

And my Twitter profile is designed to draw attention to my books, not talk politics. Something else that's obvious...if you'd bother to pay attention. Thanks for the shout-out though.
I was simply interested to see the standard of your Tweets as you were so critical of another person's Tweets. I was genuinely looking forward to some intellectual content from yours.
You say you want to draw attention to your books but you do this by re-Tweeting other peoples' Tweet content. This seems a bit lazy, surely?

Now, you wanna quit stalking me, mate?
Since when is looking at a person's public profile and the links freely provided, classed as stalking? Added to that you thanked me for the 'shout-out' on the post. Why so aggressive?

Sadly for America, Hilary is out. She failed because too many people said she was going to win. It is always easier to win if you are the underdog. People are complacent when they think someone is going to win. Added to that she gave Trump the enormous gift of rallying the uneducated and non-thinking under the banner of the Deplorables. She rallied the complacent and ignorant like he would never have been able to do. Insult the few and they will feel hurt and demoralized, insult the many and they will mindlessly rally behind a united cause and kick back.

I believe Hillary lost because she highlighted minorities and the marginalized in the country, rather than addressed the concerns of the common man. Jobs are being shipped overseas because the government lets them go, ( NAFTA, TPP etc) education is being made unaffordable for the masses, the tax code is shaped to advantage those with the most money to buy the sleazy politicians, Citizens United has made our elections a auction. She couldn't object to that because her money sources are the ones doing it.

But the real reason she lost is that she came off as a shrew and that never makes you popular. She never came up with a concise and convincing argument for her path forward, she was just offering four more years of Obama, with a Syrian war and lots of drone assassinations.

Obama disappointed a lot of people, he was still better than Bush, but he was a pussy and the people wanted someone that would stand up for them. Obama never looked like he was fighting the McConnell's and Ryan's, he tried to be reasonable true, but you don't win the hearts of people being reasonable when the heartland is ready to revolt!

But back to Tweets.
They can be the death of Trump, if tweeters will hammer Trump relentlessly. Denigrate him, poke fun at his outbursts and egg him on to greater and greater anger and frustration, until he is carried off to a Treatment Center for the Unhinged. You Twitter users can do this but you only have a few weeks to save America.

Ignore every deflection the Rethuglican throw at you, just tweet about his small hands and limp dick, how he can't make up his mind until Ivanka tells him what to do. How he has lost money on all his Casinos(!? How do you loose money with a casino?), how if he hadn't defrauded his investors and stiffed contractors, he'd have lost the 10 million he actually has, everything else is leveraged to the hilt, probably to the Russians!

Come on Tweeters, let's see some team effort! :)

Won't argue with you Jack, you may well be right. Plus she had crap fashion sense with those horrible pant suits. I watched the last two debates live and her Cheshire grin gave me the creeps. To be honest they both gave me the creeps.

Not too sure I would want to be involved in this Jack, not after this article about stand over tactics being used on his detractors. Rule of Fear. Trump turns his Twitter attacks on private citizens, raising concerns.

Hillary barely lost the Electoral Vote in a few states.

Otherwise, she did win.

Republicans won big on the state level, but mostly because of Gerrymandering - which unfortunately was ruled illegal in Wisconsin after the election.

No matter what, Democrats lost because the majority voted for Clinton in the primary. Sanders did not have any baggage and was more focused on issues. Bernie would have gotten more Independent voters.

Trump got the votes he got because of a massive shift in American attitude towards gridlocked government not doing enough for the average voter. This is a result of social media reaching more voters than ever before, especially those who are clueless about politics and are incapable of fact checking. They weighed in on Trump's behalf because he was perceived as the Outsider who would shake up government.

Before Trump's term is up, there will be a massive spectacle. A bloodbath. He will lay the blame for all of his administration's failures on Congressional Republicans. There will be no Democrats to scapegoat. It will be Trump vs. GOP in a war over social media. A War of Tweets. The public exhausted by diviseness and bickering will be sickened to their stomachs.

And once again, those same ignorant voters will rise up and collectively dismiss the GOP in a wake up call. Because that's what angry ill informed voters do - vote the opposite party in to teach the incumbants a lesson.

A massive stockmarket bloodbath collapse perhaps Magnetron? I can see that happening.

No baggage? He isn't a Democrat and has no history of supporting Democratic candidates for anything. That matters to some worker Democrats who have to carry the on-the-ground burden of electing someone. He also is old, Jewish (but doesn't support Israel), a socialist, and has no record of accomplishments despite having been in Congress forever already. Name the last one with more than one of those bags to carry who won a presidential election. His campaign was 60 percent wishful thinking and 40 percent naivete. I do think his campaign was beneficial in that it moved some of the party positions to the left.

All those points was he reason he did so well. He didn't act like a typical servile Democrat who folded at the first mention of opposition.

I don't do multi-quote well and there are way too many points to respond to so I'm just going to do a steam of consciousness bullet-point list

* Hillary lost because she took certain states for granted and didn't campaign there (Wisconsin for one). She was also a bad campaigner - she didn't speak to people's hearts. The PACs running on the ads focused too much on Trump's character (which is what his supporters loved about him) instead of focusing on policy. If she won, she would have faced the same obstructionism that Obama has faced. Her pick for the Supreme Court would be blocked for some other reason (besides let the next president pick it).

* Obama accomplished little because of an obstructionist Republican-lead Congress that won't consider any jobs bill he proposed. On the first day of his first term McConnell said their goal was to make him a one-term president. After he got re-elected they continued to block legislation, knowing they could spin it in the election as the Democratic leadership has done nothing to help the country.

* The heartland voters who voted for Trump tended to be hypocrites. Saying the country is heading in the wrong direction, but yet re-electing the Senators, Congressmen and state officials that are responsible for that direction.

* Someone said there will be a revolt before Trump's term is up. That person is right. When the heartland voters lose their health insurance due to the ACA (aka Obamacare) being repealed they'll be pissed. When job and income growth isn't what they expected they'll be pissed.

* Stephen King, as a celebrity, is entitled to voice his opinion. Growing up I loved reading his books. The Stand still ranks as one of my favorite books of all-time. I need to read End of Watch the last book in the Bill Hodges trilogy (Mr. Mercedes, Finders Keepers).

Some in the know are saying that the Russians have a lot to do with Trump's win (when added to the stupidity of a large proportion of the American electorate, I would think).

Sorry but everyone outside of LA, SF, Chicago, NYC and DC is not stupid....that's the attitude that cost you smug twats the election and made your party damn near a fringe one.

Please....double down on your hatred, intolerance and narrow mindedness. :)

Trump's proposed cabinet is the worst in American history: a motley crew of plunder-monkeys.

'A motley crew of plunder-monkeys'. He has such a delightful turn of phrase.

There we go, another post to hyperventilate over, for the overwrought. :)

Some in the know are saying that the Neo-liberal wing of the Democratic Party had a lot more to do with the rejection of HRC by the heartland voters, than a couple of Russian hackers. Trumps victory was just a byproduct of HRC's second national repudiation.

You can't hang Hillary's defeat on individual voter preferences. She won the popular vote decisively. She was defeated on a state's rights system of built-in inequality.

She was defeated by her disregard of the working class in states hammered by the Democrats disastrous trade policies. (And the Repub's election counting manipulation, IMHO.)

Face it Pilot, she's a horrible candidate, as 'qualified' as she was supposed to be, she didn't win, not even with $1.2 billion in her war chest.

She had to swing way to the left to even get considered after Bernie pointed out her "Same Old Shit" plans for the future. Bernie was revitalizing the party, pulling in new Democratic voters and shaping a new New Deal, but Hillary was shuffling the same marked deck.

If the goal was votes...Trump would've run a different campaign.

Give me a break. Trump was criticizing the Electoral College system during the campaign. You're making up fantasy intentionality for Trump in campaigning that didn't/doesn't exist.

Pilot....Trump won. Hillary Lost.

I haven't disputed that. I disputed a post that indicated that Hillary didn't get the majority of individual votes--because she did. She won the popular vote by a larger margin than most presidents who have won the election did. I haven't disputed that the Electoral College is what votes in a president. I did dispute, however, your rewriting of history on Trump's stated views on the Electoral College system before he was surprised by winning the electoral college vote (if they all vote as instructed, as I think they should). You (and he) are already trying to rewrite history, and he, at least, has continued to be a congenital liar.

Yes. Trust in Nancy and Hillary. They care about US and they know what's best. Stay the course.
