Anybody dabble in the stock market.? Any tips, tricks or ways to make some money?

Find a very large construction project. Invest in booze and hookers in the area of said project.

But really, be smart about investing. Get advice from professionals.

Diversification is a smart thing.

Booze and hookers always is a good investment…as Thor mentioned…

Seriously though…find a Pro…don’t take advice from people on sex sites…you’ll end up playing guitar in whorehouses like me…

Start reading and educating yourself on the stock market. No one gets rich overnight or quickly in the stock market.

yes, someone might hit a hot stock once in a while, but the odds are greater than 10 million to 1 that someone will know what the "hot" stock will be.

Slow and steady is what wins in the market. Time and the miracle of compounding is what wins and creates wealth.

Day trading will make you go broke.

"The millionaire next door" is a great book to read to learn.

A couple of small tips:
  • Never invest money you need for maintaining a comfortable life. Investing comes with risk and you might lose it or have it tied up for a prolonged period of time
  • Never buy an investment product you don't understand how works
  • "Past performance is not a guarantee for future performance" - this disclaimer is standard and very very true
  • Set realistic expectations. Investing in the stock market will not make you rich overnight. If done well, it will help you grow your money with an average of 6-10% per year. Better than putting it in the bank, but also more risky
  • If you are not investing very large amounts of money, it's difficult to get good diversification (which is needed to lower risk). There are products designed to help with that - read up on index-based ETFs

i do not dabble in the stock market lol lol

but there are dark sides to the stock market

Problem is if you have any sort of workplace pension then undoubtedly they are investing in the stock market for you.

You need to look to navigate it (the stock market) because leaving your money just idle in a bank or bonds is risky to, because of the risk of inflation!

Good advice.

I've dabbled with my own pension pot and savings and done quite well with individual stocks as well as a couple of blow-outs. But overall way more up than down.

Just starting to get into ETF's but I would surmise the returns won't be as good as my own hunches on individual stocks.

Bitcoin etc is something I don't understand so just steer well clear of.

Most people who have dabbled in the stock market the last 15 years will have been making a very nice return. However, it's important to realize that this is (at least in part) due to an unusually long upwards trend. If you look at historic developments going further back, it's easy to find stretches of 5-10 years with very little increase or even drops.

This graph is sobering: https://www.macrotrends.net/2324/sp-500-historical-chart-data

"Dabbling" is totally different from "investing." Don't expect to make money speculating. Expect "bets" to go like they would in any casino. Or worse.
