story comments (lacking)

Someone posted this a year or so ago in another thread and I've reposted it a few times. Paraphrasing-

"Readers comment on really good stories and really bad stories. If your work falls into the bell curve between those two points, comments are scarce."

I've found this to be very true. My work falls in that range and I've learned to be okay with it.

I understand where @Helgamite is coming from, especially for a new writer and the lack of comments. How does one know where their strengths and weaknesses are if no one comments? But, he has come a long ways since his very first chapter. He's gotten an editor, he's slowing down and going over his stories, plus he's not hesitant on asking for advice. He's still got a lot to learn but he is getting better.

This is the category I fall under, and like you I'm okay with that.
I'm also aware that the lack of comments on my part is because it's a fantasy romance that's based off a video game. That's a hard one for some readers to want to read, especially on literotica.
But I am in the process of working on a different genre story, erotic couples, that's completely different from my Hawke and Elayne story. I hope it will let readers know that I do know how to get down and dirty and not be so mushy mushy lmao. But more importantly, if I have another story in a different category and a different style, it will bring in new readers. At least that's what I'm hoping anyways lol.

The other trick is to keep readers waiting a little between installments/chapters. Then you get loads of comments telling you to hurry up and post the next Chapter.

This makes up 90% of my comments. Which I supose is a good thing yhat people want more. Sometimes I just wish they would tell me more about why they want more.

tho I'm not sure what would be a better category for either of them, as Group isnt giving the comments as I had hoped.
I've found Group to be the least responsive category. A very low Vote/View ratio and very few comments, so there's very little clue as to how a story went down. I won't post there again.

Company was out in there by Laurel, I trust her to know where stories go. But yea, I'm not very fond of group. I was thinking of putting my harem story into romance but didn't know if it would fit in there. Since it contained cheating spouses, I had even thought of loving wives category for it.
