Story Criticisms

I think maybe I'll register an alt, and every time a story doesn't contain a kilted Scotsman I'll vote it down.

Eeesh! Whatever happened to variety?!

but.....didn't we realize that this is his own personal story playground? ;)

I actually have gotten alot of impregnantion emails.... I just scanned my email account, I lost most of my feeback when I left lit for a while but out of 10 I read, 3 were impregnantion related.

Weird.

Who IS this guy?

Oh just you wait. I'm sure you'll be inaugurated into the club soon. :)

He will vote down any story that doesn't have impregnation in it. Obsessed?

Just a wee bit.

well.. I think I'l become obsessive and vote down Colly's stories from now on- all the ones that DON'T have Golf settings... :p
oh, and PS- what about the stories that don't have sperm in them- at all?

Welcome aboard, Angel! We're glad to have you here. I think most of us have had the bizarre non-sequitur responses to things we've written, and other posters have shown you a good model for responding to it. Learn to see the humor. The SO and I still howl with laughter over a relatively innocent comment, really; we quote it to each other when we're looking for an example of a bizarre comment on anything. The comment was just "needs more sex," but in the context of the story ("Will"), we both found it hysterical.

Still, I think Carson has that beat. I love CV's comment on one of his: "Too gay." ;)

Didn't you get the "death to all poofs" comment? :D

No sperm? :D

I think that category has its own resident troll, but don't quote me on that. ;)

Yes, McKenna: Don87654 is Literotica's number one weirdo.

We've all been privleged to receive his strange feedback.

Damn. I feel genuinely left out. I mean, I have published stories ... all right, one story - in which pregnancy was actually physically possible. No, wait - two! Three if you count flashbacks. Why have I never been visited?

*laugh* I was just coming back to the thread to mention that! Of course its original capitalization should be preserved for best effect: "DEATH TO ALL POOFS."

The story, needless to say, was in the "Gay Male" category. Right where poor unoffending heterosexuals could accidentally be horrifically offended and violated by it. Shame on me.

*Homer Simpson voice* Mmmmm....Scotsman.

Shanglan - you probably publish your stories during the full moon. That's when Don is out howling at the moon.

When you write a story, it is not actually one story but many.

1. The story you THINK you wrote.
2. The story you wrote.
3. The story you REALLY wrote but didn't know you were writing ('The Return of Dacia' caught me by surprise over it's real content after I had extricated myself from the situation.)
4. The story the reader READS.
5. The story the reader WISHES you had written.
6. The story the reader WISHES you had not written.

I have found my life easier when I worry about 2 and try to figure out 3.

I won't discuss 1 4, 5, or 6 unless the reader proves they can read first.

A surprising number of readers can't.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Hello! Where did you go?

Where has thisfadedangel gone? Frightened off by the responses to this thread? After the first and only post, 'faded' has faded...

Where was I?

Oh yes. I sometimes, only sometimes you understand, include sheep in my stories. Some have dared to suggest that I should desist.

My response:

Baa!

Not quite so Dickensian. That would have been 'Bah!'

However a black and white mint humbug would be appreciated.

Colleen Thomas' comment was a perfect example of how out of control the interracial stories have gotten. I read this story and I rated and commented on it. Colleen is an excellent writer with a vivid imagination. She also isn't afraid to take a chance on a different type of story. These are all reasons I enjoy and participate in this website. I gave Colleen a 5 and made some constructive comments. I was close to giving her a 4 but the story was so erotic I had to go with the 5.

Now if the racist comments that have been written about her story are allowed to come in unpunished (expulsion from the group) how is this writer going to be motivated to write under this subject again? The owners of this website have a great thing going but if they continue to refuse to police their site they are going to lose writers to other sites.

You mentioned some ways to keep the various trolls at bay. It is much more simple really, no annonymous rating or comments and ultimately if you want the right to rate a story you will have to have contributed at least two stories to this site before you get the priviledge. Put these two rules into effect and the trolls go away tomorrow.

There are a number of rampant racists commenting on the public comments board. Perhaps the operators of Lit feel they have enough on their plate without worrying about this problem. But I do think it would be more than appropriate for the individual authors to drop all racist comments from the public boards. They are offensive.

So my question is this: Do you other, perhaps more experienced writers, run into this sort of thing a lot? Or do I just attract the nutters?
I'ven gotten the "this story would have been good if she got pregnant" comment from that one guy too.

Certain categories people are much more willing to try to tell you the story you "should" have written. Loving Wives springs to mind. Incest.

I've done mental edits myself while reading for my own enjoyment. Physical details in particular, as we all have our own preferences. Of course I never told the author how I defiled their story in my mind ;)

I do that, sometimes. It's amazing how often big tits are not a plot element.

I prefer to sketch in only a few details of physical description. A big man. Long brown hair. Freckled skin. Blue eyes. not much more than a few details. That way, the reader can put their own image into the story. Places, too- the bed is brass, or made of heavy beams, the room is dusty or richly furnished. And I've gotten feedback telling me how well I described the character, how visual I am!

I agree with you on the racists. We as authors should just delete the shit.

But if your 'reform' goes through as you state it, evry vote here will be political. Factions will vote against other factions, cliques will vote up favorites. That stuff is happening now, but it is masked somewhat by the mass of unwashed casual reader votes. It would be all that was left if you did it the way you suggest. Better no votes at all than authors-only. Especially for contests!

And what did happen, after all, to thisfadedangel? That was the only post ever from the identity.
