Strange place names

Here in Michigan we have both Hell and Paradise! The town nearest me is Germfask which is the initials of the last names of the 8 men who settled this area.

I've been to Hell. There were no brimstone fires on the main street, the mayor didn't have horns, and the kids shooting baskets on the playground didn't resemble Rosemary's Baby. Bummer.

Now, Fucking, Austria, on the other hand...

There have been lots of little towns with strange names, how about a big city? The name Los Angeles is shortened from "El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles de Porciúncula" (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of Porciuncula). [There is still some discussion as to whether the long name is still the legal name of the city.]

My grandmother used to claim that in Pennsylvania, close to New York, lay three towns in a row: Surprise, Climax, and Result. ;)

Haven't found them on any map, though . . . .

French Lick, IN - Home of Larry Bird

I've spent years searching for Bumfucked Egypt. It's apparently all around the city I live in, but I have yet to see it on a road sign.

It's not a town, but here in Massachusetts we have a lake named:

Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg

And no, I didn't drop anything on the keyboard, that's the real name. Try saying that three times fast.

Supposedly it actually means, "English knifemen and Nipmuck Indians at the boundary or neutral fishing place."

It's more commonly calle Lake Webster nowdays. (How booring)

Bald Knobs, Ballstown, Bourbon, Buddha, Correct, Cumback, Dark Hollow, Dead Mans Crossing, Disko, Easytown, Fickle, Gnaw Bone, Hooker Corner, Massacre, Pleasure Valley (I wonder how close this is to French Lick?), Santa Claus, Sleepy Hollow, Toad Hop.
