Actually, it looks like the OP had ADD (or is doing a reasonable job of faking it). Caffeen has a calming effect on folks with ADD so OP should drink *more* coffee.

Why, sure I'll have some more coffee! Wouldn't you like some more coffee? Try my Starbuck's Blasting Cap Extra Caff Superheated Subterranean Lava Blend! They make it special for Seattle Suicide Prevention in January and February!
What?!
No??!!
Out???!!!

Here's the EMS unit from Barney's.

You want it, like, intravenous?

I believe you're wrong.

Since you're only allowed one vote anyway (try to vote twice in succession on any story and see what happens - you can only "bump up" your rating by that one vote.), it's absolutely not unethical to vote on your own story. In fact, I'd venture to say that most do that exact thing.

Why shouldn't anyone vote on their own stories? The author has just as much right to an opinion as anyone else reading it, after all.

I would say that by writing the story in the first place, you are already voting on it. You have presented the piece, and let the wolves and lambs have at it.

The whole point of a site like this is to let others read your work and assess it on their own. Trolls aside, there should be no bias . . . especially our own.

If you want more votes on your story then just send a link out to various friends (RL or online, whichever). In my case this usually doesn't translate into a perfect score, since many of them are brutally honest and won't give me above a 4 in case I think that means I don't have to improve my writing <rolls eyes>
Oh well. As long as they enjoy it.

IMO, the people who know you from the boards will be biased when voting for your story. They'll vote you a little higher. The trolls will vote you lower because they're sick individuals. Someone will vote you low because you had rape in nonconsent. Someone else will vote you high because the way you described your heroine reminded him of his first girlfriend and only true love. It all balances out. I think there's very little objective voting on Lit. Very few people will look at a story and vote on it based on how it's written, without being biased.

Voting for your own story -- why not? Don't you think you can be objective? If you're voting for someone else's story, don't you think yours deserves an equal chance, i.e. your vote?

Do what I do and leave it for a month or so, then go back and pretend it's by someone else. Usually I'm so turned on/impressed by my writing that I reckon I deserve a 4 or 5. Once I gave myself a 3 cos it could have been a lot better structure-wise. It's amazing to read something a long time after you wrote it - it always seems far better, but then mistakes are more glaring too...
