Submission time changed?

Hey all,

Just a quick question about something I'm a little confused/unsure about, if anybody can help! This isn't a "why is my story taking so long" question, just to head that off at the pass.

I submitted a story roughly 24 hours ago. It's still in Pending without a publication date and hasn't been sent back or anything like that, which is fine, but it now shows as having been submitted an hour ago.

I'm just wondering if this means anything or whether it's just a quirk of the system? Fwiw the story is for a challenge that hasn't started yet and I also left a note/question for Laurel about the category of the story, so I suspect that might have something to do with it, but I'm just curious to know what might be going on.

To reiterate, not a complaint of any kind and not something I'm at all worried or concerned about, I'm just genuinely curious!

I think people first started noticing this around the same time that people began to complain about being rejected for AI. One theory is that it means your story has passed the AI scan and is now up for the regular review.

If you opened up the submission and saved any changes, that woudl cause a change in the submission time. Aside from that, it sounds like a glitch

I haven't opened it or touched it, though I did that with my first submission so I'd seen that that's how it works.

That makes a lot of sense! Seems as good an explanation as any, anyway. Thanks.

Challenge that hasn’t started yet?

Does that mean it’s been announced though with the updated Notes to Admin magic words?

That's happened to me three or four times. I think it's either a glitch in the publishing software or possibly a toggle that went untoggled or something like that when Laurel approved the story. I messaged her about it, and in each case the story had the proper publication data within a few hours. You may want to message her the details.

Generally, when people's sub time was changed, they get it back with an AI note attached soon after, or it goes through shortly afterward.

Good to know! I was happy to just keep waiting until you said this but if it's a known thing then maybe I'll drop her a message.

It's been about 10 hours at this point. Do you think that would still fall under "soon/shortly after", or should I think about messaging Laurel as per the reply I've quoted above this one?

I wouldn't, it can be two or three days from what has been passed around here. However, some languished in hell for a month or longer.

Had this happen to me on a recent submission of mine. I got curious, since I know the timer resets when changes are made.

I copy/pasted the text from the control panel into an advanced text editor and ran a comparison with my original text.

Someone, or something, had indeed made a change. A double line break had been removed.

That's hilarious for some reason. Unfortunately I always upload my stories as .docx rather than pasting the text in so I don't think I can look for changes, but now I'm very curious!

You can after it is posted. Copy and paste, and run compare.

For anybody who was curious about this, the story is now live and I figured out what caused this issue. I'd submitted it to NonCon/Reluctance and included an author's note at the beginning with a sort of content warning that this is a M/M story.

In the submission notes I asked Laurel whether she thought it would be a better fit in Gay Male and mentioned that if it was, I'd want to update the note to warn people about the non-consent content. It looks like she made that edit for me and changed the category to Gay Male, and this is what caused the submission time to change.
