Summertime Blues (for Zoe)

“I brewed it myself.” She winked, glancing down the bar at a man leaning quite dangerously far over to get their attention. Damn it.
“Busy.” She shrugged heading over, to the annoyed patron. Then another and another.

By the time she got back to her roommate she had to get him another beer.
“So how is our Ladies coop coming along? Did you make lots of progress once I left you alone?” She was leaning on the counter, not wanting to shout over the noise, except at the moment she saw a hand stretch over the bar further down, waving a twenty. She sighed, giving him an apologetic smile before heading off again.

“I got enough done for one day,” Tommy had said, and took a moment to watch her walk away. I hate to see you leave, I love to watch you go, he thought, his eyes drinking in her long, silky smooth legs, and just the slightest hint of cheek under those denim shorts, which clung to the rest of her round butt like a glove. Fuck me.

He pulled his eyes away, returning his attention to the ball game on the television above the bar. He wound up getting into a conversation about music with the older gentleman sitting next to him, even playing songs on the jukebox after the ball game had finished and going into the details of different bands’ histories and tales from the road. He had a very good buzz going as the night drew to a close.

“Hey, Ellie,” he said, waving her over to him. He held up his index finger. “One more?”

The hours had ticked away and she had barely been near him all night. Between customers always demanding her attention and Tommys new best friend their conversation had ended just as quick as it had began.

She nodded producing a beer. “Last one.” It had almost came out as a warning the last drinks being called shortly afterwards.

Perhaps it was better they hadn’t spent any time that evening together, after all they did live together and had been spending an increasing amount of time together anyways, they didn’t need any more.

Still, she was glad he was there to walk her home.

“So, how are you?” She asked, not really sure what else to say to him on the walk home, but wanting to say something to him, to talk to him!

Tommy raised an eyebrow as he looked over at her. “Pretty darn good, I’d say,” he replied. “That was a good night. The Cardinals won, we had some good music on the jukebox, life is good,” he said. “I am a little sore, though” he said, rubbing at his shoulder. “Chicken coop really is coming along nicely, though. I don’t know what color to paint it though. Any ideas?”

Ellie gave out an exasperated sigh, “Honestly Tommy is this how the work load is going to be shared out? Typical man builds the coop then leaves the woman to make all the decisions. Ellie name the chickens. Pick the coop colour. Teach our ladies right from wrong!” Her voice was serious but her face was amused.

“I mean I always associate red with a coop for some reason, but blue could be nice, oh or purple.” She stepped ahead, turning to face him as she walked slowly backwards

“What’s your favourite colour?” She asked, random trivia she did not know about him.

Tommy chuckled at Ellie’s commentary, and then took a moment. “My favorite color?” he asked, and looked up at the sky as they walked, and then he put his hand on her shoulder. They stopped, and looked at each other for a second, and then Tommy nodded towards the sky.

The moon was shining tonight, bright and full. The sky was mostly clear, save for a few small passing clouds. “Right there,” he said, pointing to the moon. One of those clouds was passing in front of it, but it wasn’t so thick as to hide the moon’s light. “That glow, in the cloud right there.”

As she looked up she smiled, it was very pretty,
“As nice as it is Tommy, I can’t tell the paint shop ‘the glow in the clouds from the moon’” She nudged him, laughing at her own joke. “That is possibly the most specific answer I’ve ever heard to the question. I mean I can’t even decide what colour I like best day to day never mind what specific shade.”She laughed before continuing to walk backwards slowly, in no real hurry to get home.

“What is your favourite sound?” She shrugged, why not.

Tommy chuckled. The sound you made when you were cumming on my dick, he thought, his eyes dragging up and down her body as she walked in front of him. “Uhh, remember that song I played for you in the truck the other day? That dude’s guitar.”

“Yeah,” he said, “that’s gotta be the most perfectly soulful sound that can be made outside of a bedroom.” He looked at her then. “What’s your favorite… movie?”

She answered without hesitation, “First Pirates of the Caribbean, I had my sexual awakening watching Orlando Bloom try not to fuck Keira Knightley.” She laughed, having never told a soul before, “Yeah I watched that film every night for months, threw a fit if the tv wasn’t working or when my illegal copy was given to a friend.” She nodded, laughing again “Or Love Actually for about 6 months in the lead up to Christmas.”

She continued walking, the urge to whisper, like they were the only two people in the world was somewhat overwhelming,

“Ok classic one, favourite food or taste?” Her mind wandered as she watched him. Wonder how his lips taste. She chased the thoughts away, it would be beer, and she knew what he tasted like.

Whatever that pussy tastes like, he thought, licking his lips as they came up to their house. He instantly regretted not burying his face in her crotch at some point during that third tryst of theirs, when things had gotten a little wild.

Okay, a lot wild.

“So, do you remember back when you had to lick your postage stamps before sticking them on the envelope? Nowadays you just peel them and stick em. I always loved that taste,” he said, as he unlocked the front door and headed inside.

Ellie had laughed, leaving her bag on the chair and kicking off her shoes,
“That is a good taste, weird but very good.”
She stopped in front of him, the two looked at each other. Silence.
She didn’t feel like going to bed, but she wasn’t sure what she wanted to do.

Eventually she broke it by heading into the kitchen, she felt so restless, so unsettled and so confused. The urge. The urge to touch him, to feel any small piece of his skin against hers, that would make her feel better, she knew it, every nerve in her body seemed to know it. As he followed her into the kitchen she stuck one hand into the back pocket of her shorts, the other had picked up her phone, thankfully.

“I think I might go to bed, you going for a smoke?” She inclined her head towards the back door but didn’t spend long hearing the answer, heading straight for her room instead.

“Uhh, yeah,” Tommy said, as he reached into the fridge for a beer, and she brushed past him suddenly. He heard her footsteps going up the stairs.

“Uhh. Goodnight!” he called out after her, very confused. Hadn’t they just had a fun evening, even if she was working? Tommy rolled his eyes and opened his beer before stepping outside. He was about to light a cigarette, and then said fuck it and pulled out a joint inside, and fired it right up.

Ellie was restless in her room. She wanted to go downstairs and talk crap with him until neither could keep their eyes open. A nice casual evening that they had never really spent together. Except if she spent any more time with him, she was going to to like him more. Perhaps a boy roommate was a really stupid idea.

Then a beacon emerged, the brown fucking envelope that had been sitting in her room since she moved in. The envelope that she had planned on giving him on Sunday, well actually since number three, but the fantastic envelope that was going to be her excuse to go back downstairs.

Except she needed a reason to stay. Then she remembered how often she noticed the cigarette stubs sitting by the hot tub in the morning.

She changed quickly, pulling on a one piece that had such large patches cut off from either side it may as well have been a bikini. Her hair she tied up in the messiest of messy buns. She got to the top of the stairs before having to go back for a towel and her bloody envelope.

As casually as you could she strolled down the stairs and outside.
“Tommy! I tried to sleep but couldn’t,” It had been five fucking minutes at the most, “then I realised why! This!” She held the envelope in triumph, “First months rent and the deposit, well the rest of it. I’ve been meaning to give it to you for days.” She stopped having blurted it all out with barely a breath.

“And then I also decided I am going in the tub, I’ve never been in there at night and well.” She paused looking up “The sky is really beautiful.”

Tommy had only had a few puffs on his joint when Ellie burst out onto the back deck. His eyes went wide at the sight of her in that swimsuit. Fuck, she looks so good.

It took him a long moment to process everything she was saying. “It really is beautiful,” he said, not taking his eyes off her body. He shook his head and looked up at her, and then up at the sky. “You know, I was meaning to ask you about that,” he said, slipping the envelope out of her hand. He looked inside, and saw there was cash, and he was in no mood to count it at the moment.

“I’ve spent a lot of nights in that tub staring at them stars,” he said. He laid the envelope down on the picnic table. “This stuff always helps, too,” he told her, before taking a long hit off the smoking joint. He held it up for her then, offering her a toke on it.

She had been about to make a joke, ask how he knows she hasn’t short changed him if he is not going to count it then and there.

But then he held it out to her. She stared at it and then him. Her arms came to fold over her chest before one hand moved to her face, she sunk her teeth into the side of her finger, considering it.
“I’ve never.” Finally came out of her mouth, not needing to expand as she approached.

Tommy raised his eyebrows, and pulled the joint away from her. “Well, in that case, don’t start now,” he said, teasing her as he stood up and walked over to her. “But if you do ever want to, it’s pretty easy. You breathe it in deep, and it makes you feel good,”

He raised the joint to his lips then, and drew deeply on it, sucking the smoke deep into his lungs, and as he held it in, he once more held the joint up for Ellie.

“Makes you feel good?” She muttered more to herself than him. She nodded her hand reached towards him, holding his own hand instead of the joint.
Without hesitating she brought it to her lips and copied him. Drawing deep and holding, her eyes watering a little until she had to let go. She took a deep breath in and exhaled. He was right, you did feel better.

“In that case,” She let go of his hand not wanting another quite yet, “You better come in with me in case i drown right?”

She dumped her towel beside the envelope and wandered past him towards the kitchen, “I’ll get the beer.”

“Happily,” Tommy said with a smirk as she wandered into the kitchen for drinks. He took one last hit off the joint before laying it down in an ashtray.

He made his way over to the hot tub. “Hey,” he called out to her. “Hit that light switch next to the door. No, the one on the left!” Tommy was just switching on the dim lights in the hot tub, and then he walked around and lit up a few nearby tiki torches in the garden.

He was coming back around to the hot tub when Ellie came back out of the house. He peeled off his shirt as she approached.

She had been quick in grabbing him a beer. It felt like everything moved so quickly, not that she was complaining, any longer and she may have chickened out.

“Oh how nice is that!” She squealed at the nights, “but we can still see stars right?” She asked looking up as she approached, pushing the beer towards him.

Tommy took the beer and looked up at the sky. With only the dim light of the hot tub below them and the torches around them, it was dark but comfortable.

Tommy looked back at Ellie. “I think it’s a pretty good view,” he said.

“Good.” She giggled holding onto his shoulder as she climbed in, “I want to stare at the stars,” She whispered as she sat herself down.

“You sit there.” She commanded softly, directing him to be the 12 to her 3 on the clock face.

“Sometimes, I think I don’t see the stars enough, you know?” She turned her head away from the sky towards him, “like at night I am always watching the streets for would be muggers, never look up!” She pointed one hand in the air

“And look how pretty it is and we just ignore it! All the time! I think I might move my bed out here from now on, what do you think?” She had rambled on alternating between looking at him and the admittedly very pretty sky

Tommy watched her as she rambled on, while stepping out of his shoes, unfastening his belt, and pulling down his zipper. He pushed his jeans down his legs and stepped out of them before stepping up and into the hot tub, sinking into the water in the middle for a moment, before turning and looking at Ellie, with just his head above the water.

His hands found her legs, at her calves, and slid up them under the water for a moment before he slipped away, and found himself a seat directly across from her, a little smirk playing across his lips as he looked at her.

“It is really easy to get all caught up in taking care of business,” Tommy said, “that you forget to chill out every once in a while. There’s beauty all around us, right? We just gotta stop and take a little time to check it out.”

He stretched his tattooed arms out on either side of him on the edge of the tub, and looked up at the sky. The moon was big and bright tonight.

Ellie looked down from the sky at him a puzzled frown on her face “I never told you to sit there!” She pointed closer to her, so they would be sharing a quarter

“Cause from there how quickly could you save me if I was drowning?” Even before she had finished she let herself sink some, stopping when the water reached just below her nose before getting back up, as though proving her point.

She tilted her head, looking at him. “Will you indulge my curiosity?” She asked, whispering into the night.

Tommy’s arms slid into the water and he sunk lower, and slowly drifted towards the middle of the tub. As he approached her, his hands found her legs, fingers sliding around her ankles and then calves, under her knees, and then she was suddenly being pulled from her seat, into the middle of the hot tub!

Their bodies came together, her legs spread by him, but she was sinking! Tommy leaned into her, wrapping an arm beneath her lower back and pulling her up and out of the water. “I think I can get to you in time,” he said, before easing her back into her seat, and sliding in beside her.

For a moment she thought maybe she might have been drowning after all as the seat seemed to fall out from underneath her, and something had pulled her except she didn’t fight it.

Then she really did feel for a moment like she was drowning, sinking down and even when he caught her, pressed against him she was sure she was dying.

When he had put her back she felt a little nervous, she had been nervous before and she had no logical reason as to why.

She turned her head towards him, happier he was closer to her, needing to be closer to him.

“You were too far away.” She whispered before continuing “what if all the lights had went out and I slipped under the surface?” She smiled a small smile, “too far away.”

She looked back up at the stars before turning her head towards him, resting it against the edge of the tub.

“Can I ask you something?”
