Summertime Blues (for Zoe)

He took the money and slipped it in his pocket. “This old thing? I bought it a few years ago from this old farmer down near Jeff City. I think it had only really ever been driven around the farm. Anyways, I do sound for some concert gigs every once in a while, and it helps to be able to move a lot of gear. Hence, the truck. This old chevy’s got a lot of miles but she still runs great,” he said.

Tommy turned the music back on as they pulled out of the parking lot, but not too loud. He was getting excited for the show tonight.

“So, English Lit, huh? What made you pick that? That was in my top three, actually. I’m glad I chose what I did, but really making music is just another form of storytelling, right?”

She had been surprised he had taken it so easily, having been prepared for a fight to get him to take the money.

“Umm I don’t know, I just love books and so why would i not pick something that I can get some delight from. I love getting lost in a book, when you just can’t stop yourself, you know?” She shrugged leaning her head against the window.

“Do you not think you would miss home though, if you were touring all the time?” It had been something she was wondering about from earlier on.

It was no time until they were back at the house unloading the truck.

Tommy shrugged as he grabbed some of the groceries. “I don’t know. I like travelling, I know that. Seeing new things all the time. I’ve got a whole list of different concert halls around the country that I want to make it to for a show,” he said. He looked at her as they opened the front door.

“But I guess I might feel different about it if I had somebody waitin’ for me back home,” he said.

“That’s what I was thinking! I mean you never know, what if you end up beside your ideal girl tonight, the one that ticks all of your boxes.” She exclaimed walking past him to the kitchen, dumping the bag on the counter.

She paused for a moment to consider it, if he did meet someone would she be ok if he brought her home? It had never occurred to her that one night she may be forced to listen to her roommate and another person.

“Well actually if you do meet dream women tonight make sure you go back to hers, I want a good nights sleep.” She grinned pulling items from her bag.

Tommy scoffed as he helped her unload the bags. “Hang on, now, this is my house. If I want to bring my dream woman home and fuck her brains out, I will!” he said, and bumped his hip against hers before taking the meat and eggs and stashing them in the refrigerator. “Hey, hand me the cheese,” he said.

Ellie laughed holding multiple packs against her with her arms, before turning to the fridge.
“If you do that I am going to come in and watch, but not in a nice way, I’ll be creepy in the corner or stand right beside the bed breathing loudly!” She was even amusing herself.

“I need to stick my clothes in the dryer, but then I want to see your veg!” She caught a sliding pack with her knee, handing another to him from between her arms.

Somehow, they successfully juggled the gorceries into the refrigerator. “My dream woman loves it when you come in and watch. The creepier the better!” Tommy said. “Okay, hurry up though. I gotta get a shower before I head to the show.” They finished up with the groceries and then Tommy led her back down into the basement again.

“Listen, I swear there’s no sex dungeon down here, unless there’s something in these boxes I never knew about,” he said as he flipped on the light.

She had nudged his back as she passed him, “For all I know you already have your dream woman in bits in one of these boxes.” She laughed before adding “Sorry. That’s sort of mean, but you can stay here, I think I know where I am going.” Which she did, successfully picking her way through the darkness to move the wet clothes into the dryer.

She turned and made her way back to him. “If you have turned the light off there I would have had to kill you.” She grinned heading back up the stairs, practically bouncing at the top,

“Right come on, I’m excited to see these veggies, I’m going to have them for dinner I think.” She was quite hungry and something about eating something he grew added to her enthusiasm.

“All right, all right,” he said, following her up the stairs, taking the moment to indulge in the sight ahead of him: a firm, round buttocks wrapped in soft material. His mind flashed back to the night before, stroking his dick with those well-oiled cheeks, slipping and sliding their bodies together. He shook the thought away. Just a happy memory.

He led her outside and gave her the grand tour of the garden, showing her all the different crops he had going, pulling out a few carrots as he went and handing them to her to carry. He pulled a red onion out of the ground, and then picked a bell pepper off its vine. He showed her where the tools were kept in the shed, and before they went back inside, he cut off a head of lettuce, and piled it on top of the carrots and onion and pepper for her.

“That’s the start of a salad, I suppose,” he said.

She was beaming with delight at him, “Tommy, you don’t understand how impressive this is! These are bigger than what I would have bought!” Her arms were full of produce as she headed back into the kitchen, dumping them by the sink, “You should be proud.” She spoke to him as he entered behind her.

There was something strangely enjoyable about tearing lettuce leaves off, the crunch and snap, the indescribable fresh smell. In no time she had cleaned and chopped them up, raiding the fridge for bits of meat and cheese to put on top.

“Thanks,” he said, scratching his head for a moment. “I’m gonna get cleaned up,” he said, excusing himself and heading up to his room. He was soon showered and shaved and dressed, in blue jeans and a black tee shirt with a pair of guitars emblazoned in white across his chest. “Hey, I’m headed out, don’t wait up,” he called out to Ellie as he made his way to the door.

By the time it got to Tommy leaving, Ellie had grown slightly concerned, it was a long drive and knowing his love of a drink and other substances she became increasingly concerned, perhaps she should have went to keep an eye on him.

“Tommy wait!” She had called out, running to the front door, her hands automatically went to his arms
“Just be careful! Drive safe, rest if you get tired and stay away from drink and other substances ok? It’s a long drive, and text me when you get there so I know you at least arrived safe.” She rambled on, her hands sliding up to his shoulders. He smelt so fresh and clean, it was all she could do to stop herself leaning in and inhaling.
“Of course have a nice time.” She smiled, “You’re looking good, I hope you get stuck next to dream woman.” Her voice soft and gentle before she let go of him.

Despite all her best efforts she thought of of him often. She had taken her phone to the bathroom, sitting it on the side, practically running to it when he pinged to say he had arrived.
“Remember behave 😝” she had messaged him back.

When she finished off the leftovers of the salad again her mind drifted to him, he did spend a lot of time in the garden and now she understood why.

Even when she had settled down with Netflix she couldn’t really concentrate, messaging him again at 8,
“So how is it? Any dream women nearby?”
Ellie couldn’t help but feel a little sad, it had been nice just hanging out with him that morning, it would have been nice to just chill together that night.

Tommy headed over to Duane’s to pick up the tickets, and then drove straight through to St Louis. He had the music cranked up, and with every passing mile he got more and more excited about the show. He wished that Ellie would have joined him, it would have been nice to have her along for the ride and for the experience.

He had messaged her when he arrived. There were already a lot of folks milling about near the venue. Tommy had been here a few times before, and after finding a parking spot he made his way to a nearby tavern, where he got some dinner and enjoyed a couple of beers, and struck up conversation with some other people there that were also headed to the show. They were easy to find.

Later, Tommy wound up giving away his spare ticket to a random hippie on his way into the show.

The band was incredible, as expected. Tommy didn’t even notice his phone until the band took a break at around nine. He shook his head and smirked. Finding Miss Perfect was the last thing on his mind right now. He messaged Ellie back: “helluva show tonight.”

Despite something playing she couldn’t concentrate, checking her phone for messages, double checking she had an alert on so she would hear it. When it did arrive she smirked, no mention of women, but even if he had met one would he have told her? She doubted it.

She was tempted to reply to him, but didn’t want to distract him from the band, ruining his night with her concerned texts, so she left it, staring at the screen not fully taking in the show on it.

Instead she decided to brave the basement, standing at the top she turned the light on, it didn’t do much to make the impending darkness look any better. Shining the light from her phone only made it look like things were hiding in the shadows, but eventually she crept down the stairs, ready for a hand to grab her whereby she would have lept up the stairs, to switch on the light. It helped but she didn’t stay long rushing to collect her clothes, passing what felt like his parents ghosts on her way, and sprinted up the stairs turning lights off as she went.

Eventually she fell asleep on the sofa, waking at 2 with a start, still where she had been left. Ellie crept upstairs, thinking he must have come in without her noticing but his room was still empty. She checked her phone there had been a message 3 hours before to tell her he was leaving, but nothing since, it wasn’t that long a drive. Heading back downstairs she thought about calling him, she wouldn’t want to distract him if he was driving though and even when she did try calling there was no answer. She had no idea what to do, call the police or was it too early?

That’s when she heard the truck pull up in front of the house, briefly she did worry someone was coming to break in till she saw the familiar figure heading towards the house, pulling the door open she met him on the porch, flinging her arms around his neck

“Where have you been! You are late! I was getting worried you had died!” Before realising she was holding him tightly, her hands dropping down his arms until she let go altogether

“It was just my phone that died,” he explained, quite surprised by her tight hug and amused by her concern for his well-being. He squeezed her right back, enjoying the way her breasts felt, mashed into his chest. “Ran into some friends at the show and gave one of them a ride home, which was a little out of the way but not a big deal at all,” he told her.

“Enjoy your nice quiet night?” he asked as they walked inside, curious what she had been up to.

“I thought I was going to have to find somewhere else to live!” She laughed brushing it off as she walked inside.

“Yeah it was nice, I was even brave enough to go into the basement as well.” She grinned sitting down on the sofa. “Not done much just watched some tv, more importantly how was your night? As good as you hoped?”

Tommy smirked, watching her walk inside ahead of him. His eyes were drawn to her butt, firm and round, and he vividly recalled giving that butt a healthy spank the other night.

He followed along behind her and shut the door behind him. “I’m glad you were able to put on your big girl pants and brave the basement,” he teased her, and gave her a swift, light smack on the butt in passing!

“The show was incredible. They’re so good. I’m glad I went,” he smirked at her. He was about to start telling her all about it, as he’d even gone as far as to write down the different songs they played through the night, but he could see that she was tired. “You really didn’t need to wait up for me, goofball.”

She had nodded her eyes heavy. Her hand went to her butt, rubbing it slightly but not sure if she had bumped him or he had done it on purpose.

“I just wanted to make sure you got home, that way I could alert someone quickly!” She teased grinning despite her head telling her to sleep.

“Besides I fell asleep on the couch anyways so basically I had a nap, but I am going to bed soon, let you wind down in peace.” She lay back a little, getting herself comfortable eyes drifting closed
“Might just sleep here though.” She mumbled, sleeping just for a moment before jumping with a start, “No, going to bed.” She walked past him, pausing to grab his arm, “I’m glad you got bad safe though.” Before heading upstairs to her bed.

Tommy followed along behind her, the exhaustion from four hours of driving with a three hour concert in the middle catching up with him. That is a really great butt, he found himself thinking as he walked up the stairs, her ass practically in his face.

“Good night,” he said, as they got to the top and were about to open their respective bedroom doors. He looked at her and smiled softly. Part of him just wanted to hug her, but that probably would be an overstepping of appropriate roommate boundaries.

As if we haven’t already gone well past those boundaries… he thought.

Ellie woke the next day in the late morning, stretching she peeked out the window, it was a beautiful morning with clear skies and bright sun. She had such an urge to get some sun before her shift that evening, opening her bedroom door a tiny bit she looked out into the hall, his bedroom door still being shut.

Quickly she dashed around her room, putting on sun screen, fixing her hair, grabbing some shades and pulling on a bikini. Finally grabbing a towel and book she crept down the stairs and straight to the garden. Dumping her stuff by the hot tub she went back in, pouring a glass of juice before heading back to the garden, setting the glass at her side, settling in the hot tub to read her book. Bliss

Tommy let himself sleep in, finally dragging himself out of bed just before noon. He pulled on a pair of gym shorts and headed downstairs. Hunger drew him to the kitchen, where he started a pot of coffee and put a bagel in the toaster, and pondered his plan for the day. Looking outside, it was bright and sunny, and Tommy knew it was going to be a rather warm day.

He sipped some coffee and munched on his bagel, debating whether or not to spend some time in the garden now or later, but as he was cleaning off his plate, he looked out the window and spied Ellie relaxing in the hot tub. He smiled to himself, deciding then and there to tend his garden now.

He went and threw on a tee shirt and his denim gardening overalls and shoes before heading out the back door. He stepped outside. It was getting to be pretty hot out, actually. He looked around the garden, sipping on a fresh cup of coffee, before glancing towards the hot tub and giving Ellie a little wave.

Ellie had been quite lost in her book, losing all track of time as she soaked. The sun beat down on her, the garden was quiet except for the occasional bee or bird singing in the distance.

Until she heard the door and footsteps, she had jumped a little, the water splashing around her, turning round slightly to see Tommy there.

She had quite forgotten he was still in the house never mind that he might wake up and come down at some point. Sinking down a little more in the water she gave him a wave, watching him in his gardening clothes.

“Morn… eh afternoon.” She called, turning her back to him

“Hey, good afternoon,” he said. “Gonna be a hot one.” He looked around the yard again, and then walked towards Ellie in the hot tub.

“Now that’s not a bad way to spend the day,” he said, nodding as he approached her. “Sleep okay?”

She nodded at him, “Yeah I slept fine, you are awake much earlier than i expected.” Looking briefly down at herself she laughed “obviously.” Ellie paused lifting herself out the water enough to put her book on the side.

“I’m slightly devastated I have to work tonight to be honest.”

“Gotta make that money, right?” Tommy mused, his eyes drinking in the sight of her cleavage in that tight bikini top as she momentarily came up out of the water. “I don’t work at the Blue Note again til Wednesday. Thinking about getting started on that chicken coop,” he said.
