The Batman

NAME: The Batman

ALIAS: Bruce Wayne

AGE: 43

RACE: Human

HEIGHT: 6' 2"

WEIGHT: 225 lbs

HAIR: Black

EYES: Blue

PERSONALITY:

Batman is a character study in dual personality. His public front as Bruce Wayne is an outgoing, charismatic playboy. Often a favorite on any social scene. Bruce at heart however dispises these type of events. His alter ego, The Dark Knight, The Batman, is Dark, intimidating, and not the one to be triffled with. The Batman is vicious. The Batman relies on fear, superstition and intimidation to give him the edge over his foes.

Bruce is a master of several forms of armed and unarmed combat. He has studied with many of the world's fore most masters. Batman is not without a moral compass however. He believes firmly in the sanctity of life. He believes no man should ever take a life lightly.

Many of Bruce's life lessons were taught to him by his butler, confidant, and mentor, Alfred Pennyworth. When Bruce's parents died Alfred became a sort of stand-in father figure. Like Bruce he gives off the impression of a refined gentleman, however there is more to the man than appears.

Batman tends to work alone, having seen the pain that his work brings to those he cares for. Batman, however, is not above joining in with a team for the greater good. However, allegiances are temporary at best in most situations. And often his paranoia, suspicion and pessimism get the better of him.

OOC:If the Joker is ever wanted in here, I would love the opportunity to play him. I just love me a whacko. And yes Dark Knight was badassitude of a whole new level.

Storytellers, the really good ones, the brilliant rare creatures that actually allow the story to inhabit them, take them over...

Story is a force beyond human ken. It predates our species, and it will continue after the stars are down.

And when one allows oneself to be taken over, if only for a moment, one is never the same ever again. This is something that is rarely survived.

God bless Brandon Lee. God bless Heath Ledger.

Tell good stories, you two.

Pending some adjustments but I wanna play!!!

Name: Kyle Greystone
Codename: Wraith
Physical description (human form): 6’2” 220 lbs Blonde Hair, slightly luminescent lavender eyes. He is clean-shaven and muscular and looks to be about 26 years old, with no tattoos, or piercings.
(Hero Form): Black organic armor covers his entire body, ending in a crown of horns around his head. There are no mouth or nose-holes, and his entire eyes glow a lavender color. (Basically, He looks very close to what Top Cow’s Darkness character looks like) He is pretty damn scary-looking in his armored form, a drawback that has affected him in the past.

Powers: Almost all of Wraiths powers are based on Darkness and shadow. Some will only work at night, others are active at will.

Offensive Powers: He can form his fingers into diamond-hard sharpened claws that can rip through steel.
His strength is enhanced (he can lift over 7000lbs) and has a greatly enhanced agility also (equal to Nightcrawlers). This effect is halved in his non-armored form.
He can fire blasts of solid darkness from his hands, which strike with a powerful blow. (sorta like cyclopse but nowhere near that strong)
He can also fire a webbing-like fluid from the tops of his hands, ensnaring foes in an organic mesh. This webbing lasts until Sunrise, when it dissolves into shadows.

Defensive Powers: His armor, which is of an organic nature, is strong enough to withstand the blast of a .357 Magnum at point-blank range, while not impeding his movement at all. It acts like a second skin to Wraith. Also, it is cool to the touch (about 65o)
When in darkness or shadows Wraith can shift himself into Shadowform, effectively phasing himself out of the physical plane. While in the form the only attacks that can touch him are light-based (not energy) attacks. Exposure to a bright light source will also throw him back into solid form.
Also, he cannot phase through energy fields. (forcefields, etc. magnetic fields count too)

He can also create a field of impenetrable darkness, centered on a location within ten meters of himself, that can extend anywhere from ten inches to one hundred meters in diameter. No form of vision can penetrate the field, including infravision. Wraith is immune to this field. (He can see normally.) He must concentrate to keep this up, so the only other action he can take while doing this is walking.

Telepaths contact is difficult with Wraith when he is in his armored form. Telepaths have said to get a “madness resonance “from his shields (a by-product of his connection with the plane of Shadow.). Attempting to break his shields takes a powerful and skilled Telepath. Wraith has no control over this power, and cannot lower it. It is always active in his armored form, and somewhat lessened in his human form.

Movement Powers: He can teleport from shadow to shadow (Shadowstep). The Range of this is up to 200 meters away. This Power only works if in shadows or darkness and he must know where he is going, and the shadow must be large enough to cover him (i.e. human sized).
Wraith can also shift himself and up to 7000lbs of matter to the Demiplane of Shadow. He can then move it back to the same location or a different one he knows well. This Power only works in shadows or darkness. This power will only transport willing passengers.

At will Wraith can extend wings from out of his back and fly, able to carry around 500 extra pounds at a maximum speed of 35 MPH. He needs maneuver room so this power will not work in confined spaces. (25' wingspan, so basically this is a outdoors in the open ability)

Miscellaneous Powers: Wraith Is Immune to aging. He does not need to eat, nor does he create bodily waste. He does not sleep, and does not breathe (hero form only). He is immune to most radiation, toxins and diseases & high and low pressure conditions while in his armored form, immune to a lesser extent in his non-armored form. attacks beased on these do affect him (ie Plague from the 4 horsemen of apocalypse can use her powers on him)

His sight is such that Darkness is like daylight to him. No form of darkness affects his vision (clouds, smoke, etc. do though). His eyes are sensitive to bright lights, so in human form he is usually wearing sunglasses at all times.

Vulnerabilities: Most of Wraiths powers are lessened or do not work in bright light or sunlight. His summon will only work underground (a building or room with no windows counts as underground for this purpose) or at night. His entangle disintegrates in light, the more intense the quicker it is destroyed. (About 30 minutes in sunlight, one minute in a light-based attack) Also, all of his powers except for his life support powers (aging, etc.) shut down completely if he is standing on Holy Ground.
He takes increased damage to his vision from light-based attacks, and bright light bothers him in human and hero form.
Attacks based on light (not energy) do more damage to him than other attacks.
Wraith is a mutant and is detectable as such by beings that can detect him as one.

Background:

Kyle Greystone was born in 1907 to Alec and Samantha Greystone, two of Gotham City’s rich and powerful, moving in the same circles as the Cobblepots and Waynes. They had an older daughter (Rebecca), and later had twins, (Collin and Elizabeth). He grew up a normal child for that era, until 1921, when the fire broke out in the mansion. It was never learned what caused the fire, but it killed everyone but Kyle, who survived without a scratch (his powers manifested when he woke, encasing him in armor that protected him from the flames until he got out his window and out onto the garden).

The next four years Kyle lived with his maternal grandparents, hiding his abilities from them and the world. He started wearing dark glasses to hide his eyes and experimenting at night with his powers. At 18 he manifested his full powers, and was taken into Shadow for a year of earth time, and ten years of Shadow time. During his years in shadow he learned what he was, a scion of Shadow and chosen consort of Llandra, demigodess and ruler of the plane. He also learned that he was part of a trinity of scions, one being the Celestial, or Heaven, one being Hell, and Shadow being the realm in between. Once a millennia a scion is born to all three realms on earth, and those three exist on Earth. In older times they existed to rule mankind, became Gods to ancient man. In this era the took a more subtle role. In this era, Gods were waking on their own. He also mastered his powers and learned what it meant to be in a war, as Hell was a constant threat to both Shadow and Heaven.

Kyle came back to Earth in 1926, and assumed the mantle of heir to the Greystone fortune. He spent the next five years in Harvard, getting a law degree, and the rest of the depression era working in a law office by day, and by night wandering the streets. Soon the criminal element came to fear this “Wraith” that fought crime and kept the mob in Gotham in check. Then Pearl harbor happened, and Kyle’s life changed.

In 1942 the president formed a secret team of empowered heroes to fight the Nazi’s on their turf. At that time there was The All American, a result of the American Super Soldier program who fought for American values and the war effort. Dr. Fate, master of powers obscure and arcane. Hotshot, a weapons expert with guns that could fire trick bullets. Athena, a female archer who showed up on the coast of Cape Cod one morning with no knowledge of who she was, the only ties to her past a magical bow and bracelets with a symbol on them. She also remembered living on a island called Themyscira. Over time bits and pieces of her memory resurfaced, but she never fully regained that knowledge, just her name & where she lived. Wraith was approached by Dr. fate with a invitation to join the team and take the fight to the Nazi’s, who were growing more and more powerful as the delved deeper and deeper into the occult. Being a red blooded American, proud to serve his God and country Wraith accepted, and spent the last years of the war in a constant battle facing Hitler and his Brotherhood of the Eagle.

During those years they faced many foes, one being a creature that could drain the blood from a man then raise his corpse as a zombie under it’s control. Wraith later found out that this was the scion of Hell, and they fought numerous times, neither gaining the upper hand. Wraith also found love for the first time, falling in love with Athena. Then Hitler acquired the Spear of destiny, tipping the balance of power in his name. During the final battle with the Nazi superheroes, the All American faced Dynamo, a Nazi creation of science and magic that was a living shell of arcane energy encased in a protective suit. He breached that suit causing a explosion that rivaled Nagasaki, killing the Nazi superheroes and also killing himself and wounding Athena. Hitler escaped, and the others were assumed dead. The next five years the remaining heroes hunted down Hitler, until in 1952 he was cornered in Brazil but during the fight Athena was killed by Hitler when he attempted to stab Wraith with the Spear of Destiny, and she threw him aside and took the blow meant for him. That was when Wraith took a life, killing Hitler for taking the life of the woman he loved, and their unborn child.
After that Wraith grew weary of life on Earth. Things were changing, old friends were dead or dying, growing older while time passed him aside. It was getting harder and harder to hide his immortality, so after making preparations should he choose to return that would last through the ages, Wraith withdrew into Shadow.

56 years passed on earth, 560 in Shadow, and Wraith, tired of the wars in Shadow and curious about the Earth, emerged from Shadow into the Narrows, and into a world he could not dream to exist. The next few months he developed an identity, activating the preparations he had made fifty years earlier (Claiming the Family home that his grandparents rebuilt and taking it out of caretaker status, activating bank accounts, etc) and learning about the new world he had emerged in, a world where Gods openly walked among men.

As our story opens Wraith is once again exploring the streets of Gotham. He has not let his presence be known to the criminal or hero’s of this modern world, and is learning more of his city and the man that took over the role of it’s protector. The Batman.

Oh you have the Amazon down hon!!

purfect!

The cool part about Wonder Woman is that she's been so many different things, it's almost impossible to play her in a way that's not some version of her. She's inspired by myth, and she's become a myth in her own right, and she's taken on that quality of myth that lets it change form countless times and still stay pure.

This particular version is heavily inspired by Greg Rucka's work on the title from a few years back.

I even went out this morning to Borders and I reread a TPB of his stuff to reacquaint myself with the style and the supporting cast. Couldn't remember the Minotaur's name, stupid me.

Also, while I was there, I reread the volume of "Superman/Batman" that had to do with the arrival of the current continuity's Kara Zor-El. :: grins :: Because it's been years since I've read it and I've been encouraging other folk to read it too, especially since this thread's evidently inspired by that tale.

And then I went to see "Dark Knight."

Which, it's not all that fun watching movies alone? But I had no-one to shush me as I cackled at all the cool stuff, or to make fun of me when I cried.

All in all, it's been a pretty good day for Little Crazy Me.

Imho

can i be him huh huh huh

http://www.comicvine.com/sandman/29-9292/

though i don't want to play him golden age like

he is jsa

Hm.

This is just my humble opinion. Just my stupid crazy opinion?

But I never liked Sand. I always wanted to like him. But I could never get behind him, not after they turned him into some weird sand-shifter.

The mortal, superhero version of Sandman isn't supposed to be a crazy powerhouse who can stop earthquakes with his mind or or or drag The Rock of Eternity around like a Jedi training exercise.

He's supposed to be a tortured soul with a gas gun and a little martial arts and a fragment of Dream of The Endless stuck inside of him so he dreams prophecy and fights to thwart the darkness.

Maybe I'm stupidly addicted to Matt Wagner and Neil Gaiman.

(There never seemed much room for Sandy Hawkins in their version of things. And theirs is the version I liked.)

The Matt Wagner Wesley Dodds would never have taken on a kid sidekick. He was sooo much darker even than Batman, or at least the things he faced were darker. With Batman, Robin makes a kind of sense, if you look at it from the right angle.

Sandy The Golden Boy never made sense. At least not to me.

(But that's just me. And I'm a nutgirl.)
