Syria Is Falling, Assad May Be Finished

On the contrary, some sort of balance between Turkey and Israel is the best hope for the region. The fact that both Erdogan and Netanyahu lead governments of murderous butchers means they at least understand each other. The Turks have the second largest army in NATO and are not Arabs when it comes to fighting quality. Israel is formidable in the air but the Turks ground troops would crush them. It is in both countries interests to avoid mutual conflict and bully the Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians and Kurds as necessary.
What is in both their interest is in nobody else's.

If it's in the interests of the strong players to have stability, the rest will put up with it, they are too weak to count.
Let's not have any more of cynical Realpolitik in connection with the MENA, here has been entirely too much of that already.

The UN is a great idea.

What lets its down is the power of veto held by some.
Really?
When only 24 countries in the world are full democracies ( and even some of those are dubious as they're under the EU which is not democratic yet EU law has supremacy over their national laws ).

I don't like the idea of democracies being told what they can and can't do by dictatorships.
