Syria Is Falling, Assad May Be Finished

If Syrian, Iraqi and Iranians were able to Vote, they’d overwhelmingly vote for Democracy.

They dont want terrorists, fundamentalists, russian or chinese interests dictating their society.

Instead of driving these countries away from democracy and into the arms of the russians and chinese, the USA should be in each of those countries talking and helping, not bombing.

Try some sweet Aleppo pepper on your scrambled eggs some time and tell me I’m wrong.
Wouldn't that be nice?

The only successful democracy with a majority Islamic population is Turkey and that is only because after WWI Ataturk came to power and converted Turkey to a secular state (something that Erdogan seems to be in the process of undoing).

No theocratic Islamic state will ever be anything but a pain in the ass.

On a side note, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia is turning his back on the hard core Islamist's. I hope he has a well trained and faithful security staff.

True dat.

Bonesaw is much more interested maintaing the lavish lifestyle for himself, his harem and his entourage. He worships money, unlike his daddy King ibn Saud who was more interested in religious purity (and oil prices, natch). He does enjoy smiting his enemies, both real and perceived, and might be the most thin-skinned political leader on Earth today, which is impressive when you remember who leads Israel and who is about to claim the throne in America.

Bonesaw seems to be very adept at manipulating Tangerine Palpatine, behind only Vladmir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu but far ahead of Kim Jong Un and Recep Erdogan.

Back on topic: With Syria in disarray and the United States awkwardly transitioning to a crypto-fascist form of government, there might be a small window for Recep Erdogan and Turkey to reclaim the Kurdish region of northeast Syria as their own territory, using the Israeli West Bank takeover as a model.

Continuing on with the Iran underground bunker issue.

In Oct. '24 the US dropped two GBU-57's on Houthi underground bunkers using B-2's. The Houthi's had/have NO air defense whatsoever so good old fashioned (and cheaper) B-52's would have done the job just as well. The B-2's were used to send a message.

The GBU-57 is a Massive Ordnance Penetrator that weighs 30,000 lbs. and is capable of penetrating 200 feet of hardened concrete. The Iranian facilities are over 300 feet deep but the MOP is GPS guided and really, really accurate. So two MOP's dropped sequentially, targeted for the same strike point and with approximately a 1 min. separation gets down to 400 feet.

Each B-2 can carry 2 MOP's. So a nation that has virtually no air defense would be held at extreme hazard. Trump could order the Iranian nuclear facilities taken out with the slightest provocation and there isn't a damn thing Iran can do about it, and they know it.

Happy to see prisoners of Assad finally freed. Some of them have been there for decades.

The American obsession with Iran is interesting. The Iranian government has been a pain in every respect since they got rid of the US control of their oil industry which prevailed from the CIA led coup in 1954 to 1978. The Iranian Mullahs are totally horrible, particularly to their own people, but they are no where near as dangerous as the unstable Pakistanis who quite definitely have nuclear arms and have been willing to spread their knowledge to others. The USA should not be less watchful of Iran, but other more unstable nations should not be ignored. The world is over reliant on India to keep Pakistan in check.

And the Pakistanis cheat at cricket.

Don't let the lack of reporting concern you. The US press is poorly educated, so lazy it's a wonder they get out of bed, and nothing that is not overtly political will ever see the light of day.

That being said the US military is concerned right along with our new alliance partner, India. I'm quite certain contingency plans are being cooked up.

Good article, thanks.

the big worry with a weakened russia is the same as during the collapse of the Union….what about the nukes?

At some point, Putin could start using tactical nukes to shore up his fading power.
I doubt that. Putin's best chance to survive, politically or otherwise, is to cut a deal with Trump.

Heard a radio segment by some knowledgeable talking head whose opinion was that Putin started the war simply to have a focused enemy in order to maintain power and save his ass from being held accountable for crimes over the years. He also thought the nuclear saber rattling was simply that, that his allies (China and North Korea) would turn their backs on him if he launched a tactical nuke, which would be the opposite of shoring up power. He could always do it as a desperate FU move, I guess.

To recap;

The Syrian army, navy, and air force no longer exist. Nor do their tools of war or the infrastructure to support same. Iran is gone, Russia is gone, Hezbollah is gone.

It can be further said that Israel has not invaded nor damaged a foreign power because for all intents and purposes Syria does not exist as a nation any more, there is no government.

It's hard to grasp for some that Oct. 7th of 2023 would initiate a series of events that would have such a profound effect on powers both regional and distant. That even the Ukraine war would be so affected by consequent events. Even with the feckless policies of the Biden administration.

Are there chances that Syria gets carved up and dissolved?

Putting the political spatting aside, if either side want the credit, it is due, you can have it, but it does seem the new occupiers of Damascus are focused internally and focused on governing and I haven't seen them leading with a lot of Allah. I think this may be a positive sign towards ending the hostility of the region. Deep down, people are people, they have the internet too and they want what we all want but which we seem to have and we includes their rich Islamic friends in the region who have adopted peace for a model.

It may be a mountain sea-change internationally. It would be a great thing, international cessation of active hostilities, as long as fiat currency does not collapse.

We could start also changing the way in which we educate our youth; less hateful.
