"Ehh I just wanted to make it hurt a little before," was Laz's scowling response as she felt her power blocked. "You're no fun," she said just before he disappeared in the rent he made in the sky. Oddly enough, she wasn't at all concerned about whether or not Jackie would return.
But there was something else nagging at her and she turned on her heels to greet it.
"Holy fuck that was awesome," Nicky shouted as she rushed over to her. The storm had settled to a drizzle and the wind to a gentle breeze. Laz knew that the volume with which she spoke had more to do with the fact that she couldn't hear herself than concern that she couldn't be heard. As soon as she was in arms length, Laz put her hand on either side of her head and heard the ringing in Nicky's head as if it were in her own ears.
"You think you're some kind of bad ass now, pushing through shields and shit," she teased as she corrected her hearing and Nicky laughed a little. "Don't do that Ghost it's dangerous," she added once she knew Nicky could hear her.
"It looked like you needed some direction," Nicky said with a smirk and Laz slung her arm around her neck. "So what the hell is up with your boyfriend?"
"Who knows...he'll be back though," she said and shoved Nicky away when she felt her probing but all the girl did was laugh.
Third watched the exchange closely before he turned to Edward and shrugged. "It seems there is more at play, fledgling. But perhaps you should be more concerned with the troubled look on your mates face." Third directed Edward's attention to Lem, as she paced her furrow in what was left of the dock, with a well manicured finger. "Who would have thought the threat of your offspring crossing into this plain would be the thing to strike fear into such a cold heart?"
"I heard that correctly? His spawn?"
"That's crazy I didn't even know he had a kid," Don said with a chuckle, then flinched back a step at Lem's hard look. "What's Thornton? Forty...the kid's probably at least a teenager so it's not like you'll have any diaper duty..."
"I would slit your throat if I knew I didn't need you," she seethed through clenched jaws and Don threw up his hands.
"Alright, settle down old lady that's the last one I swear," he said honestly as he gave her shoulder a squeeze. Don dug his smokes out of his pocket, lit up, and took a few slow drags before he continued. "A kid isn't gonna change what you have in each other Lem...I know I know that's not your concern..."
"I had a father Don. I remember how much his opinion of me mattered, and mine him. If she doesn't like me...I won't put myself between a daughter and her father, no matter how much he means to me. What do I know of dealing with pubescent girls..."
"Well you could start by not caller her that," Nicky said with a smirk from behind her. "Judging by her father I bet she's not some prissy little princess, so I wouldn't worry much. Beside you have me to help break the ice a little."
"That does nothing to soothe my anxiety child."
