Talking dirty in Spanish...

Hi!

I'm writing a story, and I need help. The woman in this story is from Central America, and I would like to write her dialogue while in the throes of passion in Spanish. Problem is- I don't speak Spanish and only remember a couple of appropriate words (eg "Ai, Papi!" and, if memory serves, "mi venga" (though I could be wrong - the lovely fuckfest with my personal Hispanic Hottie was some time ago).

So appropriate Spanish phrases and their translation would be helpful. Native Spanish speakers would be most helpful, for authenticity's sake. Thanks in advance!

I think the word you're trying to remember is verga, "dick."

Could you be more specific with respect to what the character says?

Is there a country that you're trying to represent? There are regional differences in particular when it comes to that type vocab.

Figure out what you'd like to say, then double check it with someone from the country your character is from. Lit's Spanish forum might be a good resource for that (most of the regulars there are bilingual).

The question is, how will you let your readers know what the Spanish-speaking character is saying?

Very true. There are dozens of countries that speak some form of Spanish, and the "naughty talk" is very different in all of them.

Your best bet is to find some generic Spanish slang words, and make sure that the meaning is clear from the context. For instance, if you wrote, "Stick your XXX into my YYY, you brute!" it wouldn't much matter what the XXX and YYY were; the reader would get it!

Sweet Erika - I'm writing the story from the man's perspective - kind of a "I don't know what the fuck she's saying, but it sounds pretty hot" kind of thing.

As I said before, back in the day I had a lover who talked dirty in Spanish while we were fucking. I didn't know what the hell she was saying, but it was hot as hell!

The first thing you need to do is identify the country of origin for your character. As others have mentioned, Spanish slang varies greatly from one country to another.

Secondly, when you write those parts of the story, keep your phrases very short. I used this technique--successfully, I believe--in one of my stories, "The BBW Chronicles, Ch. 2." In that story, the male character spoke very little Spanish and the female character spoke no English. No one complained that the Spanish was not translated into English, as it fit the story and was used in small doses.

I remember one time when I was in college, a friend of a friend brought his cousin to a party over the summer. She was visiting from France, and spoke no English at all. She and I communicated solely through her English-French dictionary, until late in the evening when words became unnecessary. Our conversation consisted of simple sentences of one or two words, just a noun and a verb. Our love-making was extremely hot, as it followed the frustration of several hours attempting to communicate in each other's language. That was one night I will never forget.
