Tall Ships in town

The Tall Ships come to different cities every couple years making for an instant festival down by the water. There are old ships from lots of different countries with young sailors dressed in uniforms, sometimes period uniforms. The sailors spend a bunch of time at sea, then pull into the next port and often get some "shore leave” to go be tourists. In the city I’m most familiar with, young local women would often go for a tour of the ships, and, in the evening, hang out, available for the sailors to ask for a tour of the city (and free drinks and dancing). Some are simply hookers, but, some young women just can’t resist handsome young men in uniforms with foreign accents.

Anyway, our story begins many years later when a wife gets an invite from her old sorority friends asking if she’s going to the college reunion “back east”. The girls start planning… and one points out that the Tall Ships are going to be there during the reunion. Back in school one year the ships were in town and the sorority went down to “show foreign sailors around the city”. The alcohol started flowing and it quickly got out of control. They returned each night while the ships were in town, keeping track of who had hooked up with the cutest guy, most muscular guy, best accent, least English, biggest cock, etc. It was the stuff of sorority legend and wherever they chatted or got together, inevitably, some reference to that week would come up.

So, she heads off to the reunion, confident that now that they were grown women, a) the young men wouldn’t be interested in them and b) they were more mature and unlikely to do anything more than a little harmless flirting. It turned out she was wrong on both counts.

All the standard variations could apply: Is it a “girls only” trip, or does the husband go? Does the husband know about his wife’s previous Tall Ships experience or not? Is he on board with it this time, or in the dark?

I don't have a strong opinion about the "girls trip" aspect of this idea, but the mental image of the traditional tall ship sailing into port is wonderful...

There's an old video of the tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl coming into a port and the crew are all manning the yards, singing a shanty at the top of their lungs and...

I can absolutely see the draw of welcoming those lads to shore 🥵

They’ve been working hard… they deserve a nice night ashore and some hospitality from a local lass like yourself.

If I might make a suggestion as far as the setting of this terrific idea. I was in NY Harbor for OPSail 2000 as part of the Coast Guard's safety presence there for the event and it was astounding. Check this out.

The upcoming "Sail4th 250" event in July 2026 will feature the largest parade of tall ships ever in New York Harbor,
celebrating America's 250th anniversary.

Overview of Sail4th 250

From July 3 to July 8, 2026, New York Harbor will host the Sail4th 250 event, marking a monumental celebration of America's 250th anniversary. This event is expected to attract 8 to 10 million spectators along a 15-mile stretch of the New York and New Jersey shoreline. The parade will showcase over 30 tall ships from various nations, alongside naval vessels, creating a spectacular maritime display.

Participating Ships: The event will feature a diverse fleet of tall ships, including historical vessels and modern sailing ships from around the world. Notable participants include the Queen Mary 2, which will serve as a focal point for the celebrations.

Cultural Significance: This event not only celebrates maritime heritage but also aims to foster international goodwill and cooperation among participating nations.

Tall ship parades have a rich history, often associated with significant national celebrations and maritime festivals. Events like Operation Sail have previously showcased tall ships, promoting maritime history and training. The upcoming Sail4th 250 is set to be one of the largest gatherings of its kind, emphasizing the importance of tall ships in American culture and history.

So many young men coming ashore… needing a little American / NYC hospitality! Women, serve your country! Make us proud!

Then there's also Fleet Week involving the Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. Do a Google search for those locations.

I like this idea of the "many years later" episode. But I think the original backstory of the young women entertaining the sailors in the first place would also make for a good saucy story! Maybe both could be written.

just the term "Tall Ship" makes me think that the sailors are exceptionally well endowed...

Yeah… either as chapter 1 & 2… or as flashbacks.

Maybe she tells her husband about how wild and crazy they got “back in the day”, but assures him they are older and wiser now and wouldn’t cross any lines… besides, those young sailors probably wouldn’t be interested in us now that we’re older...

I like the idea of young women going down and not knowing that the men coming off the ships are accustomed to being greeted by “pros”, so, through broken English keep pushing the girls for more than just the fun night of dancing they were looking for.
