Tax the Rich?

So BotanyBoy, you have no sense of humor at all. Also my grandma riveted the planes that won WW II. Both grandfathers fought for this country. My daughter was a tank gunner in Afghanistan. By brother is National Guard. Easy on the un-American McCarthyism, buddy

Humor doesn't translate well over text, that's why we have memes.

IDC what you family did....and you can cry about McCarthyism all you want but the bottom line is that you have taken numerous positions in direct opposition to core ideals of the USA.

You're anti-freedom of association, religion and commerce ......un-American as it gets.

Not to mention you clearly don't have much regard for equal treatment under the law.....also rather un-American.

I'm betting you're not a very big supporter of gun ownership either.

Why shouldn't wealthy people pay their fair share? I pay 17%. Why shouldn't they?

They paid 39.6% in 2017....when are you going to come up with another 22.6%??

Since you aren’t wealthy (implied from your comment) you feel entitled to use taxes to punish those who are. Redistribution of the wealth is a communist dream, perhaps you should go live where it’s in practice. We however live in a free country where free enterprise and a work ethic have value.

I am a middle class taxpayer who has never taken unemployment. I pay 17%. Why shouldn't wealthy people pay 17% instead of hiding money offshore? Tax dodgers are un-American.

In what way is it unpatriotic to want my country to fairly ask all citizens to contribute?

Because you don't ask for fairness.

You ask to punish those who are more successful than you, or work in ways you disagree with for whatever reasons.

You shouldn’t be paying 17%, nor should ANYONE ever pay more than 10%, which more than meets the NEEDS for the enumerated responsibilities of government. If you have WANTS, pay for it yourself, from your job.

The middle class are the self employed.

I pay 17%.

That puts you in the poor category, especially in NYC.

They pay more than twice that, as long as they paid to get it out it's not hiding it.

Tax dodgers are un-American.

Tax dodgers founded the USA, mostly because they didn't want to pay taxes. :)

I make 98,000 per year. I imagine that counts as middle class.

Again huge assumptions and logical fallacy. If the wealthy paid even 17% instead of 0%, (Warren Buffet pays 15%) the country might be able to reduce debt. What is the worst that could come from equal taxation of the rich? Are you aware of the current level of the stratification of wealth?

Then you should have paid 28%....not 17%.

Income is irrelevant to class, how you obtain said income is the real determining factor.

If you work for someone else, you're a slave.

If you work for yourself, you're middle class.

If you have others working for you so that you don't have to? You're an elite/upper class.

You do have what is considered a 'middle class' income though so I see what you're saying.

Not for much longer though, much like the bay area here in California 98k/yr is bordering on poor in NYC last I checked.

I’m aware that over 50% of Americans are below the taxable threshold and pay no taxes at all, shouldn’t we tax them at 17%? You do realize that increasing the taxes on ‘the rich’ is a fools errand as they already pay the bulk of taxes already, simply by the math of bigger numbers, do you not know this? Are you not familiar with the Laffer curve?

Immediately contradicts own huge assumptions and good ol'plain falsehoods.

The wealthy pay....you even admit Buffet pays, and he pays far more than 15%.

Where are you getting the idea that wealthy people pay 0 taxes?
Warren Buffet publicly stated that he did not think it was right that he paid less percentage of income in taxes than his secretary. At that time he paid 15%.

There are over 300 million Americans, are you going to be giving us the tax history of EACH of them?

Warren Buffet publicly stated that he did not think it was right that he paid less percentage of income in taxes than his secretary. At that time he paid 15%.

He paid 15% on his capital gains.

That's not the same as income.

And btw, the 15% on his capgains? Probably more than his secretaries entire life earnings.

So again, we're back to the real fact that the rich pay the vast majority of the taxes.

Where did you get the idea that rich folks pay 0 taxes?

Again skirting the issue. Let me put it simply. Tax evasion is illegal. Yet Republican cuts to the IRS have limited our nation's ability to enforce fair taxes on the criminals who cheat.

Yes. The rich should pay their fair share of taxes. Our country made great infrastructural advances when a progressive tax was enforced. Now the nation cannot even build a fence without begging Mexico.

Again skirting the issue.

Not at all.

Yes.

Now who is it you think is guilty of tax evasion and what evidence do you have?

Yet Republican cuts to the IRS have limited our nation's ability to enforce fair taxes on the criminals who cheat.

What are you on? Our nation is one of the most powerful tax collectors to have EVER existed in all of recorded human history.

Just short of going into exile in a few shit holes, most of which are ultra anti-M'arican, there isn't many places on the Earth you can run from paying US taxes.

Spending your life in a news vacuum is not serving you well.

I stated facts supported by Bloomberg and a host of other publications. Your personalisation of the discussion merely admits your lack of knowledge on the topic.
