Today is the day that we celebrate all the wonderful teachers in our lives that pushed us to be the best that we can be, to achieve that goal and go out there in the world and put that good knowledge to use.

I know there are teachers and instructors on here. It's time we showed all of the ones in our past that we are thankful for all that they did, taking that extra time to help us when we needed it the most. And the ones that distracted us because they were too hot to teach. Let's hope that none of them know we're on here.

So who was that special teacher in your life?

For me it was my HS English teacher. He saw potential in my writing and never gave up hope. I still see him from time to time and he couldn't be more proud of me that I published my first book. Oh, and he's still hot.

for me it is my mom.....she left teaching to start a family, then went back to school to get certification in a different field, and taught for 19 yrs before retiring.

Sixth grade teacher, and my HS English teacher, too.
And, a certain History and Law teacher I currently know... I appreciate him for all he's taught me.

I appreciated my middle school Art teacher and the scooped blouses she wore to teach me.

I was actually going to mention this because I know we have a few schoolteachers here so I'm glad you made a thread about it. To answer your question there have been a few who really helped shape the person I am. My parents, especially my mother, weren't the greatest people in the world and when I was a kid I was not always easy to deal with. I got in fights, I was a bit of a delinquent at times, and I had almost no respect for authority. That last one is still true in a sense but it's evolved into a healthy distrust of authority and that's largely due to one of the people I'm going to mention. Sorry, this will be a little bit long because my past schoolteachers really have a lot to do with who I became as a person.

The main one I guess would be my fifth and sixth grade teacher. He moved up a grade the same year I did and fixed it so I'd be in his class again. He and I are friends to this day, actually. We talk on the phone and sometimes hang out. He's met several girlfriends of mine and I would only keep them around if he liked them. He's actually probably the person who had the biggest impact on my life other than my family and my best friend. He's getting pretty old now so he doesn't go out nearly as much but we still talk. He always wanted me to call him by his first name but I just can't. I just call him "sir." His wife loves me, too. She's great as well. There's really not a ton to say about this one because he impacted my life in so many ways I just can't really get specific about it. I'd have to write two pages so I'll just leave this one here.

But there are a couple more too. My tenth grade history/civics teacher did a lot for me too. It was a small private school so he taught two of my classes. I've always loved civics and he was fucking awesome. He taught his classes like college courses and I really excelled in that environment. We kept in touch too, though I've not spoken to him in a while. I think I'll give him a call now that I'm thinking about it. Then I had the same teacher for all four years in high school for my religion class. It was a Catholic school. So she usually taught freshmen with one junior class. Well, the year I was a sophomore she had one sophomore class and asked to have me in it. Being a small school they worked it out. Then she switched back to the one junior class the next year and I was in that, and then she had one senior class (the only one she's ever had, like the one year she taught sophomores) my senior year and I was in that too. It was a weird coincidence but she taught me a lot, and not just about the Bible and the Catechism. I think my dad had a crush on her though, which was creepy but I digress. I also took French for a few years and though I'm not fluent I can still do somewhat okay. That teacher, who again taught every year I took, was very supportive and I would stay after school a lot because of the nature of my father's job so she'd let me hang out there. We had a lot of conversations about a lot of things.

And finally, in high school I discovered my love of public speaking, acting, all that. That's because of my communications teacher who also ran the debate team. I was the only freshman invited to join and in all of high school I never once lost a debate. And I had to argue for things I definitely did not believe. My first final was trying to justify why kids should be tried as adults and get stiff prison sentences for committing crimes. That is so far from what I believe as a person but I won that hands down so she actually asked me if I really believed what I said. The most I ever brought into a debate was a 3x5 note card so while I think I do have a natural talent for that she really helped a lot in developing my skills there. That's also a big part of how I learned how to write. Written and verbal communication are very different but there are many, many similarities too, so I learned how to translate one to the other and develop my own style of communication that flowed across both venues. She also got me the opportunity to help conduct the school mass, even though I was openly atheist even then, and set up a whole thing where the school held an event to honor me for everything I did with that, helping the debate team win titles, and a few other things. They didn't tell me about it beforehand because they knew I would object (it's kind of embarrassing) but she did it. They held an assembly in the middle of the school day for it. She's the main reason I started to learn so much about communications and how media works. I probably never would have gotten into radio for the few years I did that without her.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. This just happens to be a subject that has had a big impact on my life.

My Year Three English teacher. My, was she a pretty lady. And very good at her job, too! :rose:

Bumping this because I know we have some people on here that need the appreciation and love. And maybe an apple pie instead of just an apple.

Thank you!

I appreciate my preschool teacher Miss Naomi. I was a really sick child and she really went above and beyond for me during my hospital stays.

Me too. I've been dealing with health shit my whole life. I spent a lot of time in hospitals as a child. A lot. A few of my old teachers sent me letters and things when I was in.

I know James Lewis and DoRaMe are educators, so I'll make sure they're noted today. ;):)
