Tell me why I don't like sundays.

They do close the liquor stores.

They don't here. They are open 10am to 10.30pm. Public Houses usually open at 11am on Sundays and stay open to 11pm.

They close the supermarkets after 3pm but the convenience stores are still open.

If you are really desperate to buy drink after 10.30pm on Sundays, hop on a ferry to France. Bona fide 'travellers' can drink 24/7 while in transit. Return trips for a foot passenger can be as low as one pound sterling for special offers. They also do 'park and shop' - drive your car on the ferry, shop on board, wait in the bar while they unload the genuine travellers, shop some more and drive off (if you can) when the ferry returns to Dover. The downside is the police car with breathalyser waiting outside the docks.

I live in a dry county...no liquor, and no beer - EVER.

Get in the bar hun, and fill up while you can. Birthday champagne is on ice, just waiting for Lou to finish falling off the pole.

Mat

PS, Abs, did anyone get the cake? Oh, yeah, Vella-mia brought it in early.

Did you know that Tony Blair's government is planning to relax the licensing laws so that pubs, clubs etc. can be open 24/7?

I am a licensee under the current legislation. As an existing licensee I have preserved rights (Grandfather rights) to any type of liquor/entertainment licence after the new laws are in force.

I think I'll organise a permanent 24/7 rave near Dover. The ferries can bring the booze. A dozen heavy trucks a day might be enough. Music? Who cares?

Oh, yes, I knew that. I'm a former licensee, and when we had our pub there was talk back then of us going 24/7.

Madness!

Apparently, it will cut down on binge drinking. Yeah, right! My arse! It just means they'll be out of their heads right through the night, as well as right through the day.

(If you get the rave set up, let me know, I do a nice line in glo-sticks. ;) )

Lou

Ok, here's the deal.

Imagine you have no family to spend time with, no pet and you don't go to church.

If so, could there be a day more boring then sunday ???

I love Sundays! I don't do the typical obligatory religious and familial thing either. Of course, I live in the U.S. and all of the shops are open, there are 500 channels of available televison (though I'm not a television watcher) and being that it's summer, there are many art and cultural festivals to attend.

However, my favorite thing to do on a sunday is to take my big-ass-laptop (I didn't have the good sense to buy a lap-top appropriate to mobile use and instead got the biggest arm-numbing 17" display desk-top replacement I could find), go to my neighborhood coffee shop and hang out in their sidewalk cafe, availing myself of their complimentary (Free) WiFi connection. I'll often buy a couple of really good cigars (H. Uppman's or Romeo Y Juliettas) from the tobacconist across the street and drink coffee, chat, write and post inane entries on internet message boards--as I'm doing at this very moment.

Today is the last of 14 Sundays for me (back to work tomw.) and they've all been good. Snoop, get OUT and walk around, sit and watch people, read for hours at a time, listen to a whole symphony with headphones, think without interruption...

Perdita :)

p.s. Quilty, I have an image of you now, it's delightful.

Sunday has always been the perfect hangover day. What Friday is to the weekend, Sunday is to the work week. That's probably why we don't like it.
