Downtown is the last place I want to be for the next 2 weeks... I get enough people watching in on my commute home on Lamar. Waterloo Records on 6th is always a fun gawking spot :p

I do. :)

Wanna go downtown and gawk at the out-of-towners?

It's not great for gawking, but I hear Blue Star Cafeteria is a good place to go... ;)

Hey. Van et al. Nice weather today in my area. Anyone attending SXSW?

Hello LV. Nice weather here too, but think we have a chance for rain this weekend. I won't let it ruin my weekend though.

I have never been to SXSW but from the sound of it from Stacy, it might be something I want to avoid. :D

Never been to one myself. I heard they have more streets blocked off and less cops this year.

Help wanted.

As I shall be visiting Texas next month for a 12 day vacation, purely social and pleasure, starting off in Dallas, then to Houston; Galveston; San Antonio; Austin and back to Dallas. Can anyone, politely, tell me where to go in the evenings, I will have transport.

That's not a good combination.

It's supposed to be workable. Saves the Austin PD $150,000. They've had budget cuts of course.

Wishing you a great trip! You should get some good info from this thread.

I understand it will save money and I doubt the crowds would get out of hand but anytime security is cut back it always makes you worry.

I and other Houstonians in this thread probably can help you with ideas if you let us know what are you interesting in seeing and doing.

Then the others from Dallas, San Antonio and Austin can help you there as well.

SXSW is awesome, don't get me wrong.... But living here in Austin it's a battle to do anything else for 2 weeks.
It's a love/hate thing :)

I hear ya.

Kind of figured it would be a love/hate thing. Normal traffic there is not that great anyway from what I hear. The last time I was there was last year for a protest and it was a Saturday, and it's been years since I was there before that.

Where's a beautiful Texas woman that wants to play tonight? That's what I want to know.
