The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Quick catch up while I can...
How do you make your tuna salad? I've seen recipes using plain greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise. I haven't tried this yet.
I've been subbing Plain Greek Yogurt for both Mayonnaise and Sour Cream for over a decade. Sometimes you need to thin it out a bit for consistency, but it's a great hack. Less fat and salt, more protein. Yum!
I use mayo. Qnd 8 doctor it up with salt pepper onion and garlic powder qnd a splash of pickle juice. I add celery and a little onion too...yum
New recipe just dropped
So, do you wear a frilly apron while making them? Inquiring minds... 🤣🤣🤣
When my mom passed, my youngest brother requested her Holiday Apron. It's a full length, handmade beauty that her older sister hand-crafted. Photographic proof exists that he does wear it at the holidays when cooking/grilling. And good-natured teasing ensues... still, lovely memories there.
Got tossed to the wolves first day out. My direct supervisor is laid low with flu. So, Wat had to rely on previous experience. Good thing there is some.
I almost prefer it that way - makes a really stellar first impression.
Plus, you dodged a bullet by their staying home sick. Who needs the gift of influenza on their first day at a new job???
I can't believe I caught up after missing a couple of days! I think I was on a bit on Sunday, then must have gotten distracted by something. (A very important youtube nail video, perhaps?)

I have no idea why I skipped yesterday. 🙄

Well, it's Wednesday now! Halfway to the weekend for you wage slaves. Just another day for those of us who are retired. I was talking with my SIL today and realized we're at the END of January! How is the year nearly 1/12th over?!?
Absolutely no requirement to keep current here. Jump in when you can - just happy to see folks when RL allows for some online frolicking. 🫂
No taxi for me this morning as doing so tomorrow. Protect grandpa from the dreaded norovirus.

The old dog has stage 2 kidney disease. We are keeping him comfortable as he is presently doing well. He is in dog hospice. Although sad his time will come to an end, I have so many fond memories of him.
Keep up the good work on that Anti-virus Campaign!!
Poor puppers! 😥 Cherish the time he has left and all those great memories. Hugs and tummy rubs from Auntie Likes... for you, too, if needed. ;)
Today is weigh in
You got this!! 💪
Off to the airport, well after taking the kid to school. Saying goodbyes. Never gets easier…after all these years. Hope everyone has a nice HumpDay…it’s either my first day at work or first day off…so I get two good ones
Makes the Welcome Homes that much sweeter. Safe travels
Of course! Is there any other way??
:ROFLMAO: All ways are the Queen's way...
yesterday's house drama
Is the house still standing?
Either that goes in the Win Column... or you're not trying hard enough if on the Slow Tear Down Plan 🤷‍♀️
Sounds like you need a hug!! 🫂
Morning all. Last night was crap. My gut is all messed up (stress) and I couldn’t sleep (anxiety). Yeah, some days it doesn’t pay to get out of bed. Hope y’all have a great day.
Dang it! So sorry BSK. Stress is definitely evil!!
I will be bringing you live coverage from the event riots!
Like you I haven’t been keeping up (hanging my head in shame). Between work and real life I don’t get a chance to troll Lit as much as I’d like.
Nope, no shame in that at all! Hang your head high... and join us when you have the time to spare
So, maybe it's my turn to sneak by unscathed... 🤞
My turn to catch up on the thread! Extra long zoom meeting this morning...

I think I'm starting to get it now. Really exhausted this morning. AND chills, then too hot, then chills, then too hot...
Dang it! I was so hopeful your first comment was going to stick. Sorry you didn't get a hall pass and are now feeling sick. ☹️

Extra hugs for all who need them...

So, WTF happens when you're on cortisol?
your body makes cortisol to fight inflammation control blood sugar maintain bp and helps you wake up and stay awake.... so if you have too much or out of balance it can cause weight gain or loss high BP sugar problems fatigue etc.....

Night shift people stay awake when cortisol production slows and melatonin takes over in normal.people so that is why night shifters have more fatigue weight gain higher bp etc... they r all out of whack

Cushing and Addison disease are caused by cortisol imbalances... Can't remember which is which

Like is it a thing that people take?

If so, I was not aware of it. I know your body naturally makes it when you’re under stress and it’s not a good thing for you.
Yes

Yes if you have a deficiency they will give you corticosteroids to treat

Hydrocortisone is lab created cortisol.ised for inflammation

Aka
Solu cortef ( lungs)
Proctosol hc ( hemorrhoids)
Anucort hc ( hemorrhoids)

Right, I understand some of this.

On cortisol morning dose right now (low-ish dose). Using it to fight inflammation, and it does that pretty well. Not sure what the side effects might be, or how that would play into sleep.

From what I understand cortisol is normally higher in the morning, and should taper off during the day...

One of the functions of cortisol is to wake you up and keep you awake until melatonin (another hormone) helps you go to sleep

To check levels it is a first thing in the morning lab

It should be taken in the am or will affect sleep.

If you have too much cortisol it can cause weight gain high BP increased blood sugars thinning skin grumpiness fatigue diarrhea
