Sounds like fabulous together time!!Yesterday I drug SheWhoMustBeObeyed to to a new nursery across town. I say new because it’s new to me. It’s been there in one way shape or form since ‘76…cute place, about ten maybe 15 acres on the busiest street in town. How I’ve never been here…
We go in and she finds the perfect pot for my project. Pay the nice lady and run back home to get a start on the transformation of this neglected plant before it gets too hot! Once back and getting ready to head out into the yard, she says, “honey, grab that bottle of champagne and let’s make some mimosas!” My mind is telling me…we ain’t gonna get no work done, but…she must be obeyed….she’s the SWhoMBO after all.
Now…there’s a story behind this champagne. Twenty Odd years ago (or more) our company would buy new clients a gift basket when they signed up for our services. It was the usual “stuff” but it always had a bottle of Dom Pérignon in it. One client gave me that bottle all those years ago, It was promptly stuffed in the back of the liquor cabinet and forgotten about.
About 10 yrs ago we had a HVAC failure…in August…and didn’t rescue our wine. Most of it shipped from Europe when we lived there, so I bet I pulled cork on $5k worth of wine and dumped it down the drain.. The bottle of Dom, well, I couldn’t bring myself to do it. So all these years later, SWhoMBO, says it must go…so I bought a fresh bottle of some cheap ass champagne to compare the “pop”…just in case…well, I “popped” the cork on the Dom and it just slid out…no pressure and I poured this vinegar concoction down the drain
…we promptly popped the cork on the cheap stuff and made mimosas…five mimosas later we did manage to make it to the porch but decided it was way too hot to do any serious gardening and went inside and cuddled and napped in the chair for a couple of hours…
THAT, my fellow Spooners, is how we garden and roll in the Carolinas!
I eventually made it back out…ya know…Daylight Savings and all…and got this project kicked off. For those that weren’t around last year I documented a repotting of one of my bonsai plants. This was going to be a similar type project of a very neglected juniper plant that by my guess has been in the same pot, in the same spot, for close to twenty years. I did repot it once around 10-12 yrs ago, but other than that, I’ve added soil every other year just on the top and have at times pruned it but not to the extent that I should.
It is at this point I was going to include some pix…but they’re too large and the new iteration/update I can’t figure out how to make the pix smaller? Any help on how to do this…I’ll post them.
I pull the plant and it’s a mess. Start taking out some dead wood and lo and behold, the process I documented last year (making a Shari) has happened naturally on this specimen!. It had a dead limb I was going to leave for effect but SWhoMBO came out and promptly grabbed it and ripped it out
…drunk girls…
Her reign of terror didn’t stop there! After I get it how I wanted in MY new pot…she decides she wants MY new pot for HER pet project and I go through the whole potting process over again…Drunk girls.
So what have we learned here today Spooners? Never ever preload your SWhoMBO with mimosas too early in the day?
FWIW…the project turned out better than I could have hoped for…I grudgingly admit her idea of swapping pots was the better plan. If I can figure out how to drop the size of the uploads I’ll post…
