The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

It’s about 430am Monday. So, good morning early risers. I don’t think there are any insomniacs.

Catching up: lots of meat grilling, best wishes to Mrs RJ on her back pain, hoping MissK feels better as well. Wat’s grieving and the other cats are distracting him. Great to hear Wonderer had a good reunion. And Likes2 as always summarizes the best.

Still in the heat dome. Taking grandkids this morning. Then staying cool until PT. Poor old dog is still sleeping.

Mornin spoonies.

Been up since 430 so I guess I ain’t falling back asleep.

Time for a workout and then a swim I think.

This is our last year for the pool. It’s a bit older and it needs two pretty large upgrades: a new liner and the return pipes are leaking badly. I have rigged a large hose over the concrete to return the filter water, but I think this might be the last year…

We’ll see. Those are both fairly large ticket items.

Good morning. Pool repairs are money sinks. I know as I sank about $10K into mine. The buyers of our house wanted to hire me as their pool guru. I said no thanks as I had enough of pools.

My mom calls the orange day lillies ditch lillies...because you always see them growing in ditches alongside the road.
Yup! Thats what I was brought up with too. I wrote a poem abt them a few years ago.

Ditch Lilies

It’s that time of year
Where low-class flowers bloom
Ditch lilies erupt
Orange and yellow
Imaginary fires in the irrigation ditches
Along the road
And by the fence in our back yard
Each flower gets it’s one and only day
That one singular day to strut its stuff

It’s a signal and reminder to me
That my birthday is coming up
And my wife’s birthday, a few days after that
The first day of summer
Is banging on my door
Magic
I remember being a kid
Knowing that school was over
Hazy hot and humid days on the way
A summer of possibility lay ahead
The Califon Carnival looming
A summer of baseball
Fishing
Exploring in the woods
Capturing lighting bugs

Suzie and I lay naked on our back patio
Taking in the summer
Watching the lilies
Orange bodies, yellow stripes on each petal
They have their one day
To cum
And then wither and die
