The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

I went to a local dry cleaner/laundry today (my guy is further away, so we used a local guy). He was an older guy (50 plus but not sure how much plus) and said that it was he and his wife, and that the hours are long. It's a little shop but he definitely had a good sized moving rack full of cleaned clothes. One doesn't get super rich doing the work (we do the books for a larger dry cleaner so I know they aren't making a killing), but there have to be a bunch of people for whom this would be a great business. I keep seeing businesses like this close when the owner retires. Kids in town would never see this as an opportunity.

At same time I give to a charity for students in the poorer sections of Boston that provides one on one tutoring. These are hard working studious kids (someone from 1994 is now a morning anchor at big Boston TV Station), but they will never see the opportunities in my somewhat affluent suburb (it wasn't that affluent when I moved here in 1990, but it is now). More to the point, no one talks about starting a small retail business to students.

In them vintages the tire doesn't matter so much. The inner tube holds the air, the tire keeps the inner tube from rubbing on the ground, which would then let the air go. It's one of those symbiotic relationship type thingies.

(@Wonderer67 ... I'm waiting. Yeah, Yeah. Inner *what*)...
You said inner tube.

I hate tires with inner tubes. When my tractor gets a flat tire, I just take the whole fucking wheel off and take it to the tire place. $35 well spent.

Last night at darts, I was paired up with the fairer half of a husband and wife couple. We had scratched back and forced a third and final match, and were behind. She puts an earworm on the jukebox that he couldn’t stand! 🤣. He literally walked out of the bar! 🤣.

Turns out it was on a loop of songs where he works and he couldn’t take it anymore!

It was a good plan but all for naught…after his short walk out he came back and drilled three shots that ended the night! We were all laughing so hard…

Just in case you were wondering…

You’re welcome🤣
I like this song! DMR were a good band and up there with the specials I always thought.

So far I have dodged COVID. My daughter tested positive after symptoms appeared on Tuesday. She stayed away from me but who knows if the grand kids got it and I was exposed. So, I start testing tomorrow morning and do it for 2 days. If negative, I may have dodged it! 🤞
Fingers crossed!!

I’ve had it a few times. The first time esp was not fun at all.

I have tried to support small or family owned businesses for the past 20 years. Few have survived as no family member wants to take it over or the founder sells it. I go to a local grocery store whenever possible, my barber is locally owned, and my doctor has her own business.

It takes effort to find them but the service is so worth it.

I thought this (work) day would never end!
What are y'all up to?
It dawns on me, there's an Imperial Shittonne of shit at Dr. Tyler's which needs to be packed up, because we have a house to empty out and prep for sale. I'd like to have it on the market by March or April and get it off the books. No time like the present to start in on that, especially since I can pirate some boxes from work.
You got this! Take no shit and clear the deck! 🫂
You have my empathy about your mom and the tasks ahead. There will be feelings that will creep up and my advice is to ride them out like a wave in the ocean.
Yep. I recall holding a trinket in my hands in my parents' bedroom.
After the 3rd sibling gave me side-eye...
Me: I just need a minute to process before I can let this one go.
All of them: You can have it - we don't want it.
Me: Either did I... it just brought up a memory of a time that I wanted back. But taking that engraved silvertone gee-gaw wasn't going to magically make that happen.
Thank you OM for the coffee and memes. It’s cold out but getting colder down to single digits. The windchills are wicked today.

It is. I just got my lab work back. I need to drink more water and take some iron. 🙄
Let’s go have a drink together 😂. I am taking iron supplements but ultimately had an iron infusion. Things are back to normal for iron.
Be careful with iron as it can bind you up . . . .
Hey B2…do you cook on cast iron? I’ve always heard you can get some iron just by eating what’s cooked on cast iron.
I use a Lucky Iron Fish (now Lucky Iron Life) - basically a cast iron ignot. My iron is always on the low side but not low enough for supplements or infusions, so a little passive iron when cooking something with broth or liquid does the trick for me.

What? Binds you up? Ah, geez
Placed second in the big dart throw last night
Win Column! 🏆

Can relate - worked for a top 40 radio station... they had the station piped through speakers everywhere in the building. There was no getting away from it. 8 hours a day... with the same handful of songs playing over and over again
She uses the Spanish term…Borracho…as in; “did you get all Borracho tonight? Yes, yes you did get Borracho!”
I am very familiar with this term!
- also very Irish :ROFLMAO:
I also have lots of meds on board.... percocet gabapentin scoplamine
Oooh... ride the wave!! 🌊
Ok. Let’s do a transfusion!😂

Trade you... we need all the precipitation we can get. But the temps have to go w/ it. 10 F here with a "Feels Like -13 F) 🥶
Weaselstan!! 😂
Anyone else?!?

I haven’t been around for three or four days. Working in Philly… planning and budgeting for 2026. Long fucking days.

I do not like our COO. She’s a nice person and all (that sort of the problem) and she is really between a rock and a hard place. But she’s at this point where she needs to fucking lead. You don’t get that high of the corporate ladder by not being able to lead teams and people.

Maybe she’s just mailing it in and waiting to retire. But she seems to care too much and to care too much about small details that are not important in the big scheme.

She annoyances me.
