The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Ahhhhhhhh Billy Bishop's Neuiport!

It wasnt Rickenbacker's but I got to touch a S.P.A.D. XIII that was from the Hat-in-the-Ring escadrille....

WWI Aviation is one of my favorite things
I like anything old… but old airplanes are cool.

And those things were really basically flying boxkites with a motor.

I work near Cincinnati sometimes and I have always been told to go to the Air Force museum at wright/patterson AFB.

it is a great museum, and I will resist the urge to start rattling every fact I know about those planes... but I have Billy Bishop's biography
I was into it when I was a kid.

If you ever get a chance get to Rhinebwck NY aerodrome. They have old ww1 planes there. Triplanes, D7 and D8 and a bunch of allied planes. Maybe a camel? I have some pics somewhere.

I think they’re reproductions but pretty cool. Those old aviators had balls of steel.

Finally - work is done and I'm caught up (for the moment)...
So, what did I miss today?
Btw... wat is on lit vaca... he will be back soon
(He forgot computer at home)
Oh, good!! I must have forgotten.
Very glad he was away on vacation!!
And one should leave the computer at home for vacation IMHO.
He was feeling poorly last I heard... so was worried that new flu was kicking some wattage
Loooonnnnggggg day. Accepting suggestions on what to drink
 Maybe reverse engineer this chart.

That's Juneau. They got a pile of snow. Rain on that snow will crush some buildings.
Swamped a fuckton of boats too ☹️
We like a mint julip, sweet iced tea,and a breakfast that has a whole weeks worth of calories and carbs! Buiscuits and gravy? Dont mind if I do!

😀
Even the bread is sweet!
I had such a difficult time eating in the South.
However - redemption...
Fell in love with grits
I make them savory and no shrimp
My fave used to be the leftover Christmas tenderloin and cheesy, garlic grits for breakfast. The cold beef would cool down the lava-like grits and the grits would take the chill off the meat. SO delicious!!
What kind of apple is the best to use in a blueberry pie??
Oh hell, it is 33 here and I didn't cover the lemon or lime tree! Be back later. Hope all are well
 Just read a headline that Florida is on the razor sharp edge of massive crop damage from frost right now.
Hope you warmed those babies up 🫂
I believe the answer is .... vjdjebtboej5592
It.is like a word problem. If 2 trains leave at the same time 1 travelling at 30 mph and the other at 44 mph . What time well the monkeys have breakfast
Exactly!!! :ROFLMAO:
I am out of sorts
Hug_2.png
I need some sorts and to shut this computer off...

I want to be left alone at the same time as wrapped in a blanket with soft jammies slippers a bottomless cup of hot chocolate and someone to brush my hair while watching baking shows while someone cleans my house and fixes shit....

Is that too much to ask
When you find that neighborhood, you let me know so I can buy a place on your street... yes?!? 🙏 :ROFLMAO: 🥰
Last few seconds of this trailer:
So, we need a crew. I nominate Boat as Cpt. I’ll be first mate (as long as I can wear the Gilligan hat!😁), we need a purser, a bartender, a hostess…any other Love Boat crew I’m forgetting?
I gots skillz

Oooh... I'm gonna 🥰🥰🥰 working with you!! 😁
My favorite repair bill was for this one below.

Vehicle repairs have gotten to the point that before I shop for something new, I look at what the cost to repair them is.
For those not aware... many public libraries buy some level of subscription to the ALLDATA database.
It is considered an industry-standard resource for OEM-level (Original Equipment Manufacturer) labor times.
In addition to the main Repair/Collision software, ALLDATA Estimator is a specific, lower-cost, or companion product designed specifically for creating estimates with built-in labor times.
I’m sorry you’re having a rough day. And management is always in a reactionary mode - very stupid.
💯 agree... current management is... less than ideal
Fuck dem kids! (By kids I mean everyone)
💯 approve
Oof. That is a lot of suck
Yep - good thing I like the actual work.
For anyone who just needs to beat something against a wall & needs a soundtrack to do it.
YASSSSSSSS!! 🫶
It’s Friday nite! Hope you don’t haveta work late!
Only a little bit - help a coworker out w/ some testing... and record some phone tree scripts. Then come to find out... they want to just clone my voice now. 😩
Show up in a costume .... clown cones to mind
I like the way you think...
They didn't care for the year I came dressed as a Firefighter 🤨
Wat got home....and the keyboard on computer doesnt work.....
Fhl
Glad he's home safely but really?
C'mon! So not fair...
Those old aviators had balls of steel.
💯 agree!!
The recoil was so strong it stalled the plane when it fired
We had a car like that once... all of a sudden, if you took a left turn? The engine would die.
Ever try navigating somewhere with no left turns?

It’s sorta retro. Didn’t the old school battleships from the olden days have a straight bow??

Can I be the bartender??
I think you’re right. We need boat to close the loop on this. Or L2 the Resident Researcher could look it up…I’m waaaay too lazy for that! 😂

OK…you can be the bartender! Wat will be alone in the engine room I guess!🤣

Wright-Pat is a must. You’ll be blown away. They break everything down by era’s so WW1/2/Korea/Vietnam/Gulf War and Space.

Funny story…

One of my coworkers was a Col in the USAF. One of his classmates has a “trophy” in Wright-Pat. Now that sounds cool until you realize that having a trophy in a museum usually means you bent metal and the aircraft couldn’t be returned to service…or unless you’re Chuck Yeager or Scott Crossfield and your bird was flown once in a historic mission.

So he takes his current group of classmates at our company and sneaks some stencils and paint into the museum and when nobody was looking in the Vietnam wing…posts a few lookouts and he and another painter, stencil his old buddies name on the plane!😂.

Took some pix and sent them to him!

What are friends for? 🤷🏻‍♂️

History and Technology A Survey of the American "Standard Type" Battleship By Joseph Czarnecki
NavWeaps: Naval Weapons, Naval Technology and Naval Reunions

AI Overview:
US battleships evolved from traditional clipper/raked bows for seaworthiness to more modern, fine-entry designs for speed, culminating in the stealthy inverted bows of the Zumwalt-class destroyers, but generally featured Raked (sloped back) and Clipper (sharp, curved) stems for early strength, transitioning to Schooner (fine, cut-away) bows for faster WWII-era ships like the North Carolina & Iowa-classes, and finally the unique Wave-Piercing/Inverted bow on post-battleship designs for stealth and efficiency.
Here's a general progression:
  • Early Battleships (Pre-WWI & Interwar): Often featured classic Clipper or Raked bows for good sea-keeping and to handle heavy seas, providing buoyancy and reducing pitching.
  • North Carolina-Class (BB-55/56) & South Dakota-Class (BB-57/60):* Marked a shift to a faster design, incorporating a more streamlined, Schooner or fine-entry bow for improved speed and efficiency, a departure from older designs.
  • Iowa-Class (BB-61-66): Continued the fast battleship trend with highly refined, fine-entry bows, optimized for high speed and stability in ocean conditions.
  • Post-Battleship Era (Destroyers/Cruisers): The Zumwalt-class (DDG-1000) reintroduced an extreme Inverted Bow, inspired by early warships but optimized for radar stealth (low signature) and slicing through waves efficiently, a design controversial but effective for modern needs.
Key Bow Types in US Warships:
  • Clipper/Raked Bow: Sloped backward from the waterline, offering good sea performance.
  • Schooner Bow: A finer, cut-away entry for speed, common on WWII fast battleships.
  • Inverted Bow (or Wave-Piercing): Cuts under waves, reducing slamming and providing a stealthier profile, seen in modern destroyers and earlier designs.
