Thanks for the answer on the votes. I don’t really understand all this IP address, ISP, BT, and masquerading router stuff but am happy to learn that at least one vote should count.
I’m not sure you understood the second question though. If any computer that makes an ‘illegal’ vote is blackballed forever as you indicated, won't that mean the one ‘good’ vote that was counted will also be erased on the next sweep when its identified as coming from the blackballed computer?
As to what I’d do about vote spamming – now that’s a hard one. However I do know that no voting system in the world works where there is no transparency and where many people simply don’t trust it.
My belief has always been that if we can encourage more readers to vote most of the problems will disappear. On a story with only 30 votes, just one vote, whether a 1 or a 5 can have a huge effect. On a story with a thousand votes it hardly causes a ripple.
Re Kilts: I’ve often worn the family tartan to various gatherings of the clans, and can confirm its efficacy when speed is needed. And of course the curiosity it engenders in the minds of pretty girls, who are dying to know what, if anything you have on under it….

Your three possible reasons omit the real one – That there simply isn’t much interest in the contest among our readers, that there never has been, and probably never will be. As I noted above, the response to these threads has been pitiful. Even among the inner circle the response has been tepid at best.
Given the thousands of authors who contributed a story this year it’s extraordinary how few have been nominated in the various categories. Checking just now I found we have only 3 nominations for Best Sex Scene, 6 for Sexiest Male, 8 for Poet, 5 authors for Most Literary, 9 for Sexiest Female. Over three weeks! And even with this paucity of nominations it seems that every second nominee declines to run.
And when you read the seven threads one after another you see the same names nominating each other. It’s almost embarrassing to read. And you guys complain about Incest stories!

Angela Lansbury? You’re comparing Stephanie to Angela Lansbury? Jeeezus! How come you didn’t pick Pamela Anderson or Jessica Simpson? I’m pretty sure dear Angela wasn’t the most popular to Playboy channel viewers.
Seriously though, you do address the question I like to raise every once in a while. My problem with these Literotica contests has never been with the winners, instead I’m irritated by the fact that they’re called “Readers Choice” awards.
Again and again, monthly and special contest winners come from categories with limited readership, stories with 32 votes and a 4.96 rating are declared “Readers Choice” winners over stories like your “Montana Summer” stories that draw huge number of readers and hundreds and hundreds of votes, if not thousands.
As to correlation between most ‘popular’ and most ‘sexy’; my own guess is that, on a site that draws most of its readers because of the sexual content of the stories, the correlation is remarkably close. If our male audience hadn’t found Miss Stephanie quite enticing there simply wouldn’t have been the outpouring of votes, comments and e-mails.
The interesting thing about the story in question is that if 2000+ votes were removed during the various sweeps because people voted twice (or more), it probably means (and my e-mails confirm it) that many readers come back and read the story a second time. This is the greatest compliment a reader can give me.
