The Academy

Jessie awoke with a start to Fielding screaming at them. Her training kicked in immediately and she started running on automatic. She dressed quickly and followed Jake to the door to get the news.

2 Kaiju with a third on the way.

"Shit. I'll be there in a moment sir." Jessie bolted to her room and grabbed her go-bag, packed and ready for such an emergency. She met Jake again hurrying to the helipad where a chopped waited to take them to the coast and the place where they would take up their hunter. They were being thrown in at the deep end but they had to respond to the need.

Jake looked calm but she could feel his nervous undercurrent as they climbed into the helicopter. Just a little nervousness would help to keep their edge.

"Three Kaiju." Jake muttered.

As they flew to dployment they passed over Washington where the destruction had already occured.

Fielding said, "You are going to deploy into the Mark VI then we will fly the hunter inland where the two Kaiju have gone. They are being slowed by military craft but it is a losing fight. These Kaiju have already taken out three Hunters. Dont be nunber four. Sorry for this kids. But we have no options."

Jake closed his eyes and let the anger boil away from the pit of his stomach. "Lets kill these fuckers." He said.

Jessie stared at the devastation, it brought back some bad memories that she fought to suppress. She couldn't let fear get in the way of their mission, her judgement had to be clear. Fielding filled them in on the details and Jessie felt her insides turn to ice.

A cold, calculating rage filled her. She answered Jake's declaration with a sharp nod of her head. These bastards wouldn't know what hit them.

They landed at the base and were hurried into the giant hangar where the Hunter waited. Jessie barely took it all in as she got ready to pilot, preparing her mind for the drift but she noticed Jake's appreciative glances as he took in the massive feat of engineering.

An hour later he and Jessie where in the real Mark VI walking down what used to be Hillsberry Falls, MA. The Kaiju obliterated it and the military trying to stop them. Jessie and Jake moved in perfect sync, easilly moving the Hunter down the road. Everything was going great with their link and the hunter moved without a hiccup.

"Sensors show nothing. But they have to be close." Commander Grey said. Grey took charge of them the moment they hooked into the Hunter. He watched them on monitors and informed them of what scanners where showing throughout.

Jake nodded, "Underground maybe?"

"Possible. The ground is made up of swampy seddiment so digging wouldn't be hard. However those Kaiju are some big fuckers to just dig like that. Besides there would be a hole."

As he said that the Hunter reached the top of a small rise and they could see off in the distance a massive hole in the earth. "Looks like we found it."

"Holy shit." Grey said.

There was no time to really get adjusted to the difference between a simulator and the real thing but they were doing well, moving smoothly together. Jessie could feel the increased strength of their drift but could only pray that it was strong enough for what was coming.

Jessie saw the hole in the earth at the same time as Jake, following the Kaiju underground would massively restrict their movement but they couldn't wait around for them to resurface. The hole would easily accommodate the Hunter. As they approached it, the ground started to rumble, the first Kaiju erupted from the earth behind them. They span the Hunter quickly to face it as it struggled to get to it's feet.

Jake and Jessie surged forward to strike the Kaiju before it could get up, the hunter reared it's leg back and kicked the beast as it got up. The Kaiju roared and tumbled back to the ground. "Jump!" Jake yelled, and as one they jumped, causing the hunter to leap up and land on the Kaiju, pinning it to the ground.

They grabbed the creature's face and pushing it into the ground, forcing the entire weight of the hunter into it. The skull popped like a melon, right as the second Kaiju tackled them to the ground, sending them tumbling.

They rolled over with the Kaiju on them but found their balance quickly and landed on one knee grappling the kaiju off their back. They pulled it forward over the shoulder of the hunter and smacked it into the ground. Jessie brought her foot forward to pin down the Kaiju's neck as they both pulled off it's head, straining hard until the neck snapped and the head parted messily from the body.

"Two down, one to go." Jessie said grimly. "Any sign of the third, commander?"

"Amazing job you two. Wish we had you guys months ago." Grey said over the headsets. "The third has just surfaced a few miles outside of Manhattan. I have transport already on the way, if we're quick we should make it."

As they looked up their jumbo plate was heading toward them. Jake turned to Jessie and smirked. "I've never been to New York."

Jessie gave him a funny look. "I know!"

She let her mind wander back to her childhood, before the kaiju came when her parents took her to New York for the weekend. Through the drift link she showed Jake the city in it's heyday as they were picked and transported. She knew it wouldn't look like that now. Thinking of her parents almost caused her to flash back to the day they died but Jessie squashed it before it got out of hand.

The Hunter was dropped on the edge of Manhattan, the Kaiju clearly evident as it attempted to breach the island but was just held back by the shots from military aircraft. A badly damages Hunter lay a little to the west of them.

Jessie felt for their weapons, intending to shoot at the beast at this range.

"Fire up the cannon, Jake!"

Jake already had the cannon charged and ready, knowing her intention before she voiced it. They took aim and fired. The explosion shattered a lot of windows in the city, but when the dust settled the Kaiju was on the ground, sinming I to the Manhattan bay. They could hear the cheers from the military from inside the Hunter.

"We are going to be famous." Jake said with a grin.

The exhilaration of a battle well fought coursed through her. She recognised how lucky they were to be alive and yet a lot of it had come down to skill. They were beyond good, no one had taken down 3 Kaiju in one day.

Jessie grinned back at Jake as they waited for their pick up to take them back to base. What a way to start off a new life. Some pilots were stationed with Hunters for weeks before they saw action and here they were straight out of the Academy and into battle.

Jessie knew how she wanted to celebrate, she looked at Jake to see how he received her thought.

Jake was flashed a mental picture of Jessie riding him, moaning and grabbed her tits. He glanced at her and smirked, "Turned on by battle honey?" He teased.

She coloured a little as he teased her, knowing their comms were monitored.

"Just happy to be alive, can't think of a better way to celebrate!" she laughed, hoping there wouldn't be too much of a debrief. Nothing had gone wrong on the mission and there were no faults or damage showing on the displays inside the Hunter.

Jake laughed, "True enough."

Back at base they were treated to all the personel crowded up to the hunter and cheering for them as they exited. Jake spread his arms in triumph. Fielding came up through the crowd a d saluted them. "You two are goddamn heroes. You are what humanity has been needing all these years."

He turned to the crowd and yelled, "THE DAYS OF THE KAIJU ARE NUMBERED." The crowd roared.

Jessie retreated, the crowds and adulation made her uncomfortable as Jake lapped up the attention. She wasn't in this to be a hero. She waved timidly and tried to make her way out without anyone stopping her. Fielding caught her arm and dragged them both round, introducing them to the engineers and support staff they would be working with. Jake gave them all his best hero grin while Jessie tried to go unnoticed.

They had done well for rookies but she wasn't ready to take on the hopes and dreams of an entire world yet.
