The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Finally, a break in the hot oppressive weather. We had a little rain yesterday as the cold front went through and the dew is sparkling on the brown grass this morning. The tea kettle is on the back burner for those who don;t drink coffee.

Coffee. Thank you. Stomach is a little upset this morning, so it's going to be oatmeal for breakfast.

C and I took lunch yesterday at the local Applebee's. Sky was in the car basking in the A/C, watching us through the windows, the primary reason we choose this restaurant. He was behaving himself, sitting up so regally in the front seats making damn sure I was visible to him. He barked at a couple of passers-by, but it wasn't a serious bark, just his usual, "Hello. I'm here," request for attention.

Conversation over lunch was about him, of course. We are committed to our game plan, but after much discussion are wanting to make changes that might make a difference. So he gets a reprieve for a couple of weeks. First is a big adjustment in his meds protocol. We had backed-off of maintenance dosing, only "pilling the dog" for events. We're returning to maintenance dosing as of this morning. Second is taking the smaller car up to the cabin. He seems much more relaxed in that car, sometimes resting his head on Daddy's shoulder as we drive. Challenge there is smaller packing, but if we can rearrange to take less, then it'll work.

We hope beyond hope this makes a positive difference. He's been a total sweetheart this morning, underscoring that he is worth saving. We'll work on the other impacts to our lives later, there are some adjustments that are possible, just not easy.

I am very gradually losing capability in several areas' right now I am forbidden to drive at all; I gave up sewing a couple of years ago except for sewing machine (mostly repair/patching) as a vision issue. Reading is either on the computer or Kindle (no longer handheld books).

I can still garden a bit, but am forbidden to get in the herb/tomato garden to pick or weed. So most of the things I enjoyed (reading/sewing/gardening/cooking) either are forbidden or have to be modified.

At least no one has prevented me from cooking! Kiddo is having a big party this weekend and I need to go gather up the ingredients for a big cheesecake!

I'm sorry for my continued absence from here. I haven't even checked in since Friday until today. I'm just swamped with writing for pay and me. I'm trying to build up my stories at all the sales sites. I'd lost a lot of regular sales when I put stories up. Wherever they went, they left me in February. I'm attempting to put one new story up at least every week. I got three up last week and saw an immediate increase, and some of the older stories also started selling. Nothing to brag about, but I'm pleased with the previous week's production and sales. It also helps not to be here and not see the void Tex filled in my daily routine.

I love all you, mooks. But for now, I'll just stick my nose in, from time-to-time, spray a few drive-by postings, and get back to writing. I might like to share a cup right now. What's on the brew?

About the same here Millie. I'm cleaning up old stories I wrote years ago and squeezing them into books and updating the timelines of several stories plus two Summer fun stories.
It's all fun

@Duleigh, I'm very envious of your successes in the voting end of the pool at Bookapy, both in terms of the number of votes and their quality. If I paid more attention to finding a way to get votes, maybe I'd have a few more.

Really? I didn't know anything about that! I'm just worried about the Ka-Ching! if you know what I mean, and I have been spending most of my time learning to edit gooder.

Morning all, and especially to Millie. Not sure what's in the pot, but it smells good.

It's whale migration season here, and there's pods of southern rights, humpbacks, and orcas wandering through. You still have to be lucky to see them IRL, but we have a lot of dedicated amateur photographers who post on FB. It's amazing seeing 30 tons of animal leap out of the water.

Tourist season at the beach, Rusty? 😀

:coffee:🐳🐋 and water! I have enough for the first cup today. With the drought so well into its extended season, even whales carry bottled water across the desert– no time to 'humpback' a whale in these conditions! 😚

It would be great if it wasn't so cold.

The Port authority sent out their bright orange pilot boat to make sure tourists kept their distance. Problem was, it attracted the whales. 😂
Whales have discovered that they no longer attract harpoons and have become curious about those noisy creatures who can't swim.

Currently working on several stories, one set in December, one set in June. When I'm concentrating on a story the real world seems to drop away. I spent quite a bit of time on the December story yesterday and was surprised to find it was 95 degrees in the real world.

Got a quick burst of rain this morning, probably enough to keep the grass from getting any browner. Sipping my Earl Grey as I contemplate how I'm going to take care of the weeds in my garden. I just wish the deer would stop munching on my bell pepper plants.

Most of the time, at that site, one or two votes are all you get. The long-established writers from SOL get the most votes. I go through stages on the site; sometimes, I sell a lot of books in a short period, and other times, I have a quarter-long drought. My last week there has made my quarter, but it is one book at a time, and eclectic sales are up and down my offerings, with each of many titles having one sale and a few having two. My Smashwords sales have dwindled recently, and my pub and I are at war with Amazon over the refusal to publish (republish) a book. It seems to get it up; we have to change the title a smidgen.

Anywho, whats in the pot?
When I looked earlier book 2 and 3 still had nothing. Guess I been editing really gooder!

I have a new ear worm, so I'm going to share it :) It's Chabrier's Marche Joyeuse (aka Marche Francais). Don't listen unless you're in a good mood, or want to be.

Interesting. Never played it. But certainly appreciate the break. Working on a transcription of the last movement of Bruckner's 8th and my head is full. 🤯

Four French horns. Gotta do something to get those whoops in there.

I thought you were working on a Mahler thing. Is that done?

Four French horns plus four Wagner tuben! Wagner tubas are basically French horns with bells up you don't stick your hand into. Timbre is halfway between a horn and a trombone, with emphasis on the trombone-style presence. I've been toying with adding one to the arsenal.

Still working on the Mahler. The foundation is in place and it's playable from beginning to end. What remains is the question I asked of Russ a while back, what to do with the saxophones. I talked to a horn master and a sax wiz in the winds group and they suggest scoring as reinforcement. I want to have it ready to go at the start of the season in August. The Bruckner is a big project and is probably going to be worked on in phases.
