"The Altered One's" The Beginning.

The super-battle raging around him was none of The Hunt's concern. The four dogs raced off after Hokage, still not certain what the wolf intended to do with the girl. The other two dogs anticipated the wolf's path from the trail the others were following. They led the Spirit in the direction of the girl's home.

Hokage panicked as he neared the house. He knew that his main priority is to get the little girl home, but then the consideration of the stalkers was getting to him. What if they wanted him to bring her back home?

Hokage shook off the thought as he jumped over an parked car and crossed the street.

OOC: That has to have been the most poorly contrived excuse to cover up the use of OOC knowledge I have seen to date. "What if they wanted him to bring her back home", I would have preferred, "Using my omniscience to detect a villain at the girl's home I decided to completly superscede it." Christwagons. Real post to come later.

OOC: Bunnies prehaps an PM would of been a better way to tell Hy that. Constructive critisim is good and all but, if it's to help him, theres no need for the rest of us to read it.

IC: 'You're wrong about me. I fight for the good of others, my life is only worthwhile as long as I'm doing my duty to protect them. And I've done that. The girl is gone, probably back in her parent's arms as we speak. And I have no quarrel with you, for now. But perhaps you should take off the blinders and see where your loyalties lie.'

This person is a slow learner. I am not blind and thats why I don't trust her. Mind tricks will never work on me. She took a step forward and I ready my sai to impale her flesh. She pulled out the knife and imdeatly my wound healed. 'You fight well, and though I'd prefer to fight along side you, you will make a formidable opponent in the future.'

I took a step back not fooled by this jerks kindness. 'She's right, you are being blinded by some body...' I hadn't noticed the otehr one had climbed up already. "You two are right," I put my sai away. "About one thing at least."

I opened my eyes and hit the masked woman across the face. "The girl isn't here." I made a run for it and jumped down the building. My legs buckled under my landing and cracked but within a second they had healed. I ran to the wall grabed the otehr sai and ran in the direction the wolf went.

OOC: Oh Sky, I'm happy you read my last post corectly, I was afraid I made the coregraphing to confuseing. So I'm impressed.

I saw the masked woman get hit in the face right before her opponent jumped off the roof and got up almost instantly. "I thought I was the only ne who could do that," I muttered to myself. Iwalkedover to the woman who got hit. "Are you okay," I asked her.

The Hunt's six dogs joined up before the wall of the girl's mansion. They looked up at Risque, snarling, but he remained out of reach. The dogs huddled together, becoming for a moment an indistinct pool of shadow. Then the shadow raised up into the shape of a man.

The Hunt pressed the radio button on his collar. "This is The Hunt requesting police backup at 123 Orchard Ave. I've found the kidnapped child, but there are several Altered Ones battling over possession of her."

The radio had been customized to disguise Michael Sparrow's voice, but the Special Crimes division had learned that the Hunt's anonymous tips always paid off.

Jack Hampton

The telephone rang. It usually did at this hour. It rang twice, and before the third, Hampton picked it up.

"Yes?" Hampton said. Despite only having a few hours of sleep, his voice was crisp and firm.

"Chief, this is Sgt. Collins at 911. We just dispatched several cars to 123 Orchard Avenue in reference to an 'officer in distress' call. Here, sir, let me play the call for you."

Hampton then heard the recorded call: "This is the Hunt requesting police backup at 123 Orchard Avenue. I've found the kidnapped child, but there are several Altered Ones battling for possession of her."

The Chief of Police was out of the bed and on his feet in an instant. He held the cordless phone to his ear as he walked to his closet. "Tell the watch commander on-duty to set up a perimeter and find a location for a command post. Page the Special Crimes unit members and have them respond. Also, page all SWAT team members and have them go on stand-by."

Hampton hung up. He dressed quickly in a t-shirt, blue jeans, and lace-up boots. He put on a ball cap that read "POLICE". He grabbed his duty weapon, a Glock 22, and tucked the paddleback holster into his pants. On the way out of the bedroom door, he snatched up his handheld radio and cell phone from their charger bases. He was almost out the front door when he turned around. He leaned his head back into his bedroom and whispered, "I love you." to the sleeping form of his wife.

John jumped in the black Ford Crown Victoria and sped away. He turned on the car's siren and headlight strobes. His police radio was busy with traffic. Some units had already gone "10-23" at 123 Orchard. He heard them speaking to each other, telling their positions on the perimeter.

Hampton had never met the one called The Hunt. But, he trusted him. And, as a result, the police department trusted him as well.

Orchard Avenue was across town from where Hampton lived. He met up with a marked patrol unit on Main St., and together they traveled, sirens wailing, into an unknown situation.

Gunther was about to give chase after the girl, but stoped. "It may not be worth it..." Gunther muttered, as he turned around and walked torwards the masked woman and the new guy. "Is she okay?"

Mya

The blow hit her across her jaw, grazing the bridge of her nose. The woman had made full contact with her face and it hurt like hell.
Through the daze she watched to woman run off in pursuit of the girl and cursed silently, she needed to get up and go after her....
But her head was swimming.
She heard a voice,
"Are you okay?"

She tried to nod but couldn't.
Then a second voice,
"Is she okay?"

She reached up and gingerly touched her jaw, "I'm fine...I just..I have to go after that girl."

OOC: Thanks, I'm glad I got it right I was worried for a moment.
My character wasn't wearing a mask was she....oh well we can work with it..

The black leather catsuit was skin tight, but with microfiber ribbing at the joints to allow for movement. For the most part it was strapless, looking like a corset bodice with black sheer sleeves that were just off the shoulder. On her feet she wore knee high lace up steel toed combat boots, and her hair flowed free hiding the spine sheath that carried her katana.
Finally she slid on the wrist gauntlets that carried her throwing knives and placed her gadgets in a discreet lowslung belt on her hips and she was set.

"What girl? What is this all about?" Benjamin asked her. "There is something very weird going on here. Maybe you can explain to me why that woman was fighting with you and then just took off."

OOC: Sorry my mistake, when youstarted talking about hair, I placed a mask on her in my mind, one that let her hair flow out of the back.

IC: "Damn wolf. I'll catch him." Tree's rushed by me. The damp ground left under my feet and I was out of breath. I stoped and rested. I had run a mile or possibly two into these woods.

My lungs burned from exhaustion. Had I not been used to completely ignoreing pain then I would of fallen down a half mile or so back. I kneed down to look at the ground. "Wait a minute these aren't wolf tracks."

I stood back up. Infact I don't think there tracks at all. That means. "Crap, I jsut ran miles in teh wrong damn direction." I started walking again.

Chief Hampton

Hampton arrived on the scene. The patrol units had positioned themselves at cross streets, effectively blockading the scene and setting up a perimeter. One of the patrol officers directed the Chief to a vacant lot across from 123 Orchard, where the command post had been set up.

The patrol commander, a leiutenant, had already called the mobile command van onto the scene. Hampton stepped inside and got a run down of the situation. He found out, much to his dislike, that no one really knew what was going on.

"If it is a possible barricaded situation, then I want the SWAT team here now," he said aloud. He then picked up a radio. "Five-oh-one to Swat One. Mobilize and be enroute my location."

Swat One, the SWAT team leader, acknowledged. Having been placed on stand-by already, the team was in the process of 'gearing up' at police headquarters now.

"We need intel on what is going on inside," the Chief said. "Where the hell is Special Crimes at?" Then, as an afterthought, he picked up the radio again. "This is five-oh-one to The Hunt. Do you copy?"

OOC: I guess it seems that I am pretty much controlling the police dept. and the police-realted NPC's. Is this ok? I don't want to intrude on any of you guys' characterizations, just trying to be realistic in the police areas....something I know a little about. PM me with any ideas about what you might want the police to do in this situation. Thanks.

Risque grit his teeth and fitfully rapped a gloved fist against his Derby hat, this fiasco was far outside the realm of order and control. Cursing the loud and disturbing nature of these...freaks , he fades away into the shadows, making his way back to the city and away from the police, he had never been one for rescues anyway.

Portia had already been alerted to the involvement of the police when a few of her pet policemen (some simply bribed, others with subtley reprogrammed minds) called her up. Using the old adage, "Your only as fast as the slowest man on your team." these various officers do their best to mislead and obfuscate matters to give Risque and Rydia a clear path. Meanwhile, Portia called Rydia on her hands free and whispered into the phone, "That's more than enough for one night dear. You will come home at once, avoid all contact with the police."

The Hunt watched the wolf from the shadows as it returned the girl to her home. He pressed the radio button on his collar.

"Thegirl is being returned to her home. Surround the area, don't let the dangerous Altered escape."

The shadows flowed then, and the six dogs made a circuit around the house. Nothing. The man in the derby hat seemed to have vanished.

The Hunt returned to human form, and found a quiet spot to change back into hisregular police uniform. Then Michael Sparrow joined the other officers on the scene.

IC: I had been walking for a while now. "Where the hell are the streets?" I stoped and look around again. Wich way was it? I decided to head a little further right. I'm bound to hit something sooner or latter.

The phone rang. Could be Portia, well who the hell ever calls. Risque on ocasions, and some of her eployees, I guess. I pull it out and flip it open. "Hello"

'That's more than enough for one night dear. You will come home at once, avoid all contact with the police.' "Okay." The police, well her god daughter is safe and thats whats most important. I took a look at a tree.

I simply stayed there and looked at it. I didn't blink, but with eyes open wide and my body stiff, looked at the tree. "The kidnappers get oof eassy." I puched the tree, and it shook for a second before the pain entered my fist.

I contined walking down my path hopeing to hit a street. When I do, I know where to go now.

Police

Chief Hampton turned to the SWAT commander. "Get your sharpshooters on the rooftops. Tell them weapons hold, but keep the scopes looking. We need to find this son of a bitch before he breeches the perimeter and we lose him for good."

Hampton didn't give the SWAT commander time to think about the fact that the SWAT team stood ready just outside the van. They were all dressed up in their black uniforms, Kevlar helmets, and Nomex masks. They were primed and ready, already formed into an entry team complete with MP5SD submachine guns. The chief wanted recon of the area. He wanted to find this Altered One before he escaped. They would enter the house soon enough, if nothing more than to do a clean-up building search.

Chief Hampton turned to the patrol commander. "Send some officers out on foot inside the perimeter. Pair them up, and put a canine unit with them if there's one available. I want this one found. Now!"

Mya

She rose slowly to her feet, her boots scraping softly against the uneven concrete of the rooftop.

"What girl? What is this all about? There is something very weird going on here. Maybe you can explain to me why that woman was fighting with you and then just took off."

"You know I'm not exactly sure if I can answer either of your questions. I came into this in the middle of it all. All I know is that a young girl had been kidnapped. Then some Joker roughed them up, took the girl and it seems that several of us have been in pursuit of him. Though I don't belive this Joker has any intentions of hurting the girl, people just tend to jump to conclusions...." She paused and cracked her neck.
"As for that woman. I have no idea who she is, but she seems rather confused about who the good guys are here..."

She paused again, hearing the sirens wail throughout the city.
Some coming in their direction.

"Well it was a pleasure meeting you both, but I'm going after that little girl, and avoid the police as much as possible. You're more than welcome to join me if you wish, but we'd better get a move on..."

OOC: sorry it took me so long to post...end of the semester crap ick...

I listened to what the woman had to say. "It's not like I have anything better to do," I said, shrugging my shoulders. "Let's go." I then looked over he edge of the roof and jumped, landing on my feet and causing a crack to form in the concrete. I stood there for a moment, making sure everything was okay. I then looked up, waiting for the woman and guy to follow.

"Oh great... Who else is after me?" Gunther muttered a little too audible. Now he was concerned for Hokage's sake. "Lets go!" Gunther taken a step back, and jumped off of the roof, landing on one knee and one foot with out making an sound. He then stood up and began walking forward with his hands shoved in his pockets. He didn't really care if the others would follow him, he just wanted to find Hokage and the little girl.

***
Hokage ran through the forest with lightning speed, but came to an screeching holt seeing an whole set of police oficers. "Oh you have got to be kiding me!" Hokage muttered to himself, now fustrated. "Now what am I going to do? If I try to go in there, they'll try to shoot me down like I'm an rabid dog!"

Mya

A wave went through her and she felt the wolf's fear.
She nodded and leapt down, grabbing onto some piping on the side of the building and coasting down the wall.
"There's something wrong," she murmmered, "we have to hurry."

I went back out of the alley and grabbed my bike. I rode it up right next to the woman. "Hop on and point the way," I said, revving the engine.

Officer Michael Sparrow stepped towards the wolf and the girl.

"Don't shoot." he said to his fellow officers. "Hello?" he called to the girl, "Are you alright? It's okay, you're safe now. You're home."

That was all that she needed to say, that something was wrong. Gunther shot through the ally way like an fire ball, taking the scent of Hokage so he could find him. His voice was faint when he called back, yelling "If you want to help, you better keep up!"

***

Hokage growled with anger, warning Michael not to come any closer. At this point, Hokage didn't trust any body. Hokage then taken up an familar scent. "Dogs... Those Mutts... But where? I don't see them any where!"

Hokage searched with his eyes, and since he seemingly had no pupils, it looked like he was still staring at Michael. After a few seconds he just gave up.

Hokage then taken a step forward and stared directly into Michael's eyes, not knowing if he could under stand him or not. "Let me pass, now"

The wolf just growled at him. Michael stepped back, allowing the wolf to reach the girl's house, right in the center of the ring of cops.

Hokage carefully taken an step froward, past Michael. Gaining more confendence each step, Hokage finaly made it to the steps of the house. "Ok, come on, get up." Hokage said, even though he knew she couldn't under stand him, all she heard where whimpers as he lightly shook his fur. The little girl yawn and rubbed her eyes as she got off.

"Are we here?" Hokage nodded, and then moved his head torwards the door. "Aren't you comming?" Hokage shook his head, and then began to nudge her torwards the door.

"This is as far as I go child, These people do not trust me, so staying is not an good idea. Plus I need to find Gunther, wait, why am I explaing this to you? You can't understand K-9!" This time, to make his point even more clear, he nudged her harder. He then and began to walk away, only looking back once.

But Hokage notice that the police was not letting him go so easy, they still surrounded him. "Oh shit..."
