The American Dream

Yeah.....

The nation’s population of American Indians and Alaska Natives, including those of more than one race. They made up about 2 percent of the total population in 2014. Of this total, about 48 percent were American Indian and Alaska Native only, and about 52 percent were American Indian and Alaska Native in combination with one or more other races.

Sounds to me like they should have instituted a more restrictive immigration policy. You know, like the one that existed in the United States before 1965. Was there a point that you were trying to make that would benefit your side?

You can certainly argue that the United States has plenty of wealth to pass around but if we're simply doing it as a welfare program for the impoverished of the world why don't we just simply spend the money on antipoverty programs in the countries they currently live in?

BTW, it was the "off the top of my head" part that was the lie since you obviously missed it the first time around.

No one believes you. No one ever believes you. You already looked a fool in the conversation about unions and you're struggling here too.

And the information isn't widely reported. It was a specific date range on a specific polling site.

No one? Anywhere? You certainly speak for a lot of people.

The widely reported number is still 72 million no matter who happens to mention in passing because it is common knowledge in the debate on immigration. The fact that you don't know it is not probative.

To me the Marican dream is being able to live the life you want without the collective taking it from you because they are a bunch of jealous haters.

BTW, it was the "off the top of my head" part that was the lie since you obviously missed it the first time around.

Well I couldn't very well recall a fact with the top of your head because your head does not contain that fact and I don't have access to your limited storage capacity.

I gave the correct figure in an offhand manor in the midst of an actual discussion. Hypoxia who is just as ignorant as you demanded a citation I Googled found a the first citation which contained that widely-reported information and posted it up. I don't know what part of this you're not following.

Where else would I get a random piece of trivia to include in my post other than my general fund of knowledge?

Did I use my DeLorean to cleverly make that post before hypoxia demanded a citation which I subsequently dug out?

it amuses me that you were astounded that anyone else's head would have actual facts and figures inside it.

I don't know about all that shit but I do know this.

The only reason I am not rich and what is considered highly successful is ME.

I only have a couple of handfuls of collage credits spread out over the last forty years. I have not looked into it but I'm pretty sure I have made at least close to a couple of million in my lifetime..It doesn't mean as much as it use to however, back when I was in High school it was reckoned that we probably could make a million in a lifetime without a degree and a hell of a lot of luck.

I was in my twenties during a time when Industry started shutting down, Moving overseas or to well south of here. In my thirties when Buyouts and takeovers of other large companies started..and continue to present day.

I maybe out of work tomorrow but consider this...

I have been married and divorced four times.

I have owned.
Two houses (a third of another)

One cabin

Fifteen acres of land.

Five new vehicles (not counting the ones I bought for spouses) and a host of other used cars.

Five boats ( Not new but not cheap!) BOAT stands for bust out another Thousand...

At some point in my life I owned probably fifty head of cattle and part owner of another fifty.

Was Part owner/partner in a Mechanics shop.

Three weeks of Time Share

I have been lucky enough be able to afford to help out several people that needed it...I don't even know where to start counting THAT money.
I have been able to pretty much buy any material thing I really wanted even if I did have to make payments...

And a crap load of other stuff I don't even think about.

Maybe I don't understand the American dream.

If a person is willing to work and try they can really do wonders have a great life for themselves and family if they so chose.

Or they can sit on their ass drink and do drugs an bitch about how they are being held down for whatever reason.

Over the years I have watched people with far less than I started with work and plan while raising a family pass me like I was setting still.

THE AMERICAN DREAM?

It's still here if you really want it.

On the other hand, I must then suffer the ignominy of ignoring the maxim about never arguing with an idioticrat.

Union members never complain?

:)

I am a union supporter. Was a member for many years until switching careers. Never complain?

That is bullshit.

I knew a guy who emigrated with nothing from Ukraine long ago. He settled in northern California, worked hard, built a business, raised two sons: one a successful housing developer, the other a federal judge. Lou says he's honored to pay taxes in the America that let him succeed.

That's an American Dream: paying dues for your success.

Luk's going to be a full 5 feet high after you've finishing stretching him to twice his size on the Lit Rack.;)

Oh please, chump. He still hasn't even figured out what I called him out for. You coming in to slurp up the mess is quite vette-like of you.

Happiness and the chance to do what your heart desires. Happiness and freedom????

Sounds wonderful to me.

This mural, one of the industry series in Detroit by Diego Rivera, is the first thing that comes to my mind when I think of the American Dream. It depicts the optimism, the possibility, the opportunity, that draws the dreamers, the doers, here from around the world in pursuit of something better, something more. Simultaneously, it exposes, even glorifies, that our unthinkable, unearned, wealth and prosperity, are made possible now, and always have been, through the invisible, backbreaking, thankless labor of poor people, often immigrants, who almost never actually enjoy the fruits of their labor firsthand.
