the "ask crazychemgirl a question" thread

I know scientists aren't all the same, they have different fields of study and expertise. But, have you any inside dope on the big EHT (Event Horizon Telescope) news coming out tomorrow? Are you even interested in that stuff? Do Planetary scientists and Earthly scientists have some yearly meet and greet? Or is there a big rivalry softball game, in August, for bragging rights?

The titanic was real… and it was terrible. Also most of the first hand accounts of it bedsides from crew members were from women. Random factoid.

Hahaha… I try to keep up on planetary science because it’s interesting and I think for the most part all scientists think space is cool and are interested in it. I WISH there was more meet & greets for scientists!

AGU Fall Meeting

I intend to be there.

Does my old car take its sweet-ass time to start after it has sat for 10 days because it's sucking wind through the gasoline system or because the carburetor needs rebuilding?

I suspect that the answer is "yes."

Could be multiple reasons … did you check that you have fuel? ;)

Hi CCG,

I find myself with an unexpected but urgent need to procure some pizza toppings. The audience is a handful of picky eaters and several others that are up for an adventure. Clearly mozzarella and pepperoni are de rigueur, but what else should I get?

Have you tried pineapple? It’s controversial but I would argue delicious…

BBQ chicken is a good option … with green peppers…

Baked potato pizza is probably the best pizza I’ve ever had in my life.

The possibilities are endless

Pineapple works. Although I'm going to say pineapple with bbq chicken, green onions and bbq sauce (very light) is way better than marinara and Canadian bacon.

I'm struggling to imagine what baked potato pizza even has. Like sour cream, bacon bits, green onions and mashed potatoes?

Yeah … skin on baked potato pieces, extra cheese, bacon, green onions, drizzle of sour cream… it’s god damn fucking heaven …. 100% carb coma after.

[Scribbles furiously]
Noted. Although....
God damn fucking heaven... So is this more like having angels and demons having some sort of wild afterlife orgy? Or maybe just the angels rattling the headboards so loudly they get kicked out and need to move the party downstairs.

I'm just trying to set my expectations for the pizza, you understand.

I'd be your +1. Then again, I won't, I'd probably embarass myself.
Keep your mouth shut, nod approvingly when listening to a speaker or viewing a poster, and carry a rolled up poster in a tube. You'll fit right in.

Good morning! I have one. How many of the world's problems will be solved by creating viable nuclear fusion power plants? This article references geochemistry, so I thought you may be interested.

I think we’re still a LONG way from that kind of technology… we just don’t have the capacity to deal with it.
been 30 years that we are 20 years away from fusion.
Oh, I didn’t realize it was the “ask scrymettet” thread” lol

I think we do. We have the infrastructure to handle the electricity, after all, it's still just creating energy to turn a turbine to generate electricity. However, the problem is being able to produce it on a mass scale. There are power plants that need to be built and bugs to work out, but the technology has progressed more in the last 6 month than since it's conception. Will we be basking in the glow of a world run on fusion by next year? No, but the research and technical leaps in recent months has exploded the funding. You'd be hard pressed to find a 1st world nation that hasn't given billions towards its progression. I don't think it's still 20 years away. We will see it make an impact within the next decade for sure. Like, running, power producing plants hooked into the grid.

In my opinion.
So shall it be written, so shall it be done.

Why do printers always stop when you need them ?
Because printers are actually self-aware and they thrive on drama…

Or because they are made so cheaply these days that if you cough in their general direction they will break…

OR because unless you use your printer daily, it takes awhile to get it up and running again… like a task you haven’t done in awhile.
