The Blind Date

"I guess we'll just have to work that out on a case by case basis," Jasmine allowed with a smile.

Jasmine glanced toward the jazz trio playing, then back at Dwight. "You know, Mr. Eisenberg, I don't even know what kind of music you like."

Dwight laughed shaking his head at her words and turning to regard the music playing "Believe it or not I actually love this kind of music" Dwight remarked with a smile.

"Jazz has always called to me" Dwight remarked sipping his drink "what about you? I assume since you picked the venue you like jazz music?"

"Not really," Jasmine answered. "This is just one of the few places that the under twenty-one crowd likes to hang out at on the weekends. If you can get into a club, you have to walk around all night with a stamp on your hand that won't come off for days."

"But I'd guess you'd say my tastes are eclectic," Jasmine continued. "Just sort of depends on my mood and the time of day and stuff,"

"I can understand that" Dwight said nodding at her explanation "I was never one for clubs at least not until I became old enough to drink"

"I like jazz but can listen to any thing and every thing" Dwight remarked his love of music showing "Any thing that I like really I never was one to put my musical taste into a specific genre"

"So do you spend all your time searching for websites to buy, Mr. Eisenberg, or do you have other hobbies? Like stamp collecting, maybe?" Jasmine said with a laugh.

Dwight shook his head laughing even though he was a little annoyed at her quip about his age.

"I assure you I am not that old enough yet" Dwight replied snorting "When im not working on business I like to go out and about see the sights or on my boat I love to write and so I find going out or going to a nice peaceful place and letting lose with my writing really helps besides that I like to work out and go to movies I am a pretty big movie buff"

"So what kind of boat?" Jasmine asked curiously. "I have a thing for sailing boats and how they've affected history. And not just history we know. For example, the Romans might have known about Brazil before the Portuguese got there."

"Well I cant say I know that much about boating history" Dwight said noting her interest "boating is new to me my grandfather was big into it but my parents were not I went out a few times with him and only recently remembered how much I loved the sea I have a yacht but I rarely use it instead I prefer my sail boat and going out into the bay"

"I went out on a charter once, a pair of catamarans," Jasmine replied. "We even found ourselves in a pod of dolphins for most of our trip out. Pod? School? Group?" Jasmine shook her head, and refrained from pulling out her smart phone to look up what you call a group of dolphins. "It was our graduation party. A group of our parents bribed us with it, if we'd willing give up going out the night after graduation. All in all, it was a good bribe," Jasmine laughed.

"A pod" Dwight clarified as he listened to the story "At least if I recall its a pod still that sounds like a very very good bribe" Dwight said chuckling and shaking his head.

"I have a few sail boats but I rent out the others" Dwight explained as the band stopped and another took over "There really is only one I use, perhaps I can take you out on it some time? I usually go out to the bay and then depending on the weather a little further out"

"Maybe in the future," Jasmine allowed with a smile. "It'll be easier once college starts, and I'm not having to report my whereabouts all the time to my Mom."

"So do you have any big dreams on your life's to-do list?" she asked. "My big one is to have ran a mission from the JPL labs before I'm thirty."

"I would like that" Dwight said smiling "Usually its just me on the boat I would enjoy having some one to share it with"

"Hmmmmm is just enjoying life one?" Dwight asked smirking slightly "I already did a lot in the business world now im looking forward to slowing down enjoying it more I have a bucket list of places and things I want to do I hope to start crossing them off in the coming years"

"Anywhere top that list of places to see?" Jasmine asked. "I'm curious about the sort of places you dream about."

"Paris is a big one for me" He replied smiling in pleasure "I also want to visit rome and the tropical areas honestly I am trying to plan a trip down to Cuba for this summer"

"Not a cigar aficionado, are you?" Jasmine asked in reply to Dwight's comment about Cuba.

Dwight laughed at that unable to stop himself from snorting at her words.

"Nothing quite like that" Dwight said shaking his head "My mothers side is from there or at least so the story goes..... plus I always thought it to be an interesting place to go more or less"

"What about you?" He asked eyeing her "where do you want to go? Or at least the place you want to go the most?"

"Mars," Jasmine replied. "Seriously, I'm hoping somebody goes to Mars, and maybe I can follow suit. Or, barring that, in ten years, when the private sector gets all the kinks out and has done it enough times that the price is pretty cheap, I want to go to space. You know, when you only have to sell your car to buy a ticket, and not your house," she giggled.

"A grand place to visit im sure" Dwight said laughing at her words "Thats one of the things I like about you that the skies the limit"

"I dont know about you but im having a great time" Dwight said smiling at her "However im getting a bit stir crazy would you care to go for a walk?" He asked glancing down to check the time on his watch.

"Or do you have to go?" He asked raising an eyebrow at her.

"Probably should head back home," Jasmine allowed, "Registration packet and everything has to be filled out, and me and my Mom are going to tackle it tonight. But I had a great time, Mr. Eisenberg! We should do this again in about three or four weeks, after college starts. Let me get into the rhythm of the semester!"

"Ah makes sense" Dwight said rising up and smiling at her "I understand how about you and I stay in touch on emails and then when your settled down enough to have another date with me you let me know"

He paid for their drinks and turned escorting her out and to the car lot. He turned making his good byes for the night and then saw her off. He hummed a happy song to himself as he walked back to the car sliding in and already looking forward to their next date together.

Jasmine watched Dwight drive off before beginning her walk home. All things considered, it had been a good night.

-----

The next few weeks were pretty hectic, and Jasmine found college was nothing like high school. She was lucky, though, that taking AP courses had forced her to have some study habits. She still needed to get better ones for college, but she was on the right path.

She still kept in touch with Dwight, though the emails she sent him were sporadic. It was late September before she thought things were settled down enough for her to have a little "me" time. So she sent Dwight an email, wondering if she could meet him for lunch on the last Friday of the month somewhere near his work place.

The reply came back a few minutes later detailing where he worked and designating a place close by. It was a cafe/ bistro that catered to the work crowd from the offices next door. It was where they would meet and Dwight made sure to tell her he was looking forward to it.

THAT DAY

Dwight walked into the cafe and stopped to say hello to the owner. He was well known given how long he had been working at his fathers company and within seconds he was ushered to his favorite table. It was on the second floor and overlooked the market outside and had a view of his office.

He sat down pulling off his suit jacket and rolling up his sleeves. He even loosened his tie as the waitress came back with his usual scotch and drink.

"When my date comes in looking for me send her up" Dwight said to the woman cracking open the menu.

"I guess it's five o'clock somewhere, Mr. Eisenberg," Jasmine said as she was escorted to Dwight's table. Wearing dress jeans, a loose but form fitting beige top, with matching leather jacket and boots, she slid into the seat across from Dwight. "So what would you recommend here?"

"I am sure it is" Dwight said finishing his scotch and asking for water "And I would recommend the open faced club its a favorite of mine"

"I hope school has been going well?" Dwight asked thanking the woman for the water and taking a sip "How is college life nowadays?" He asked humor evident in his voice as he put his menu down and looked at her.

"What about the Portabella Mushroom sandwich?" Jasmine asked, smiling at the waitress who had brought her a glass of water. "I'm not anywhere close to being fanatical about, but I've been trying to steer my eating habit away from beef and chicken."

"Oh, college was an eye opener." Jasmine laughed. "I thought I had good study habits. And it's probably a good thing I'm living at home," she continued. "I'd be fifteen pounds heavier and my grades would be floating belly up if I lived in a dorm,"
